Steady Craftin videos are made with the help of DIRECT SUPPORT: www.patreon.com/steadycraftin (You'll also get access to the printable 3D scans of my original sculpted figures, MP3s, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, shop discounts, and more.) My family and I are so grateful that I get to do this.
Got my daughter a shirt and stickers from your store for her 13th birthday. She was so darn excited! Thank you sir. You're making the world a better place for good. God bless
Can’t Soak Ya ... Oh, I mean Kintsugi ... is cool. At Harbor Freight, you can buy a big bag of disposable glue brushes for a couple of bucks or so. I think they’re labeled “Acid Brushes,” but I use them for glue and for applying various chemicals to things I’m working on.
I mean this in the most polite way possible. Your videos help me sleep and no it isn't because they're boring. The content is great! Your voice is so soothing that I get so, so relaxed :)
I did exactly the same last year to a salad bowl my wife love, I used the same products and faced the same issues 😅. I just loved this video! Keep going CrafsMan! And the bottle... It looks amazing! 😃
0:34 The S is upside down, can't possibly finish video now. Sorry Crafsman. Just kiddin' you know I'm gonna finish this video, Crafsman. 1:11 CRAFSMAN! YOU DONE DIDS IT AGAIN!!!!
"then they cannot ascertain your financial situation" -- Crafsman I've said it before and I'll say it again, you really are a national treasure that way too few people know exists.
I’m a Japanese person, and far from being disrespectful, I feel so happy that CrafsMan featured a craft from my culture! You always make me smile. Love you too, CrafsMan!
@@TheCrafsMan I know we are also all thankful that she slacks up on your honey-do list just enough so that you can make a few RU-vid videos every now and then.... We would be lost without them...
“If you tell somebody that you’re just window shopping, then they’ll think you ain’t got no money. But if you tell somebody you’re window shopping while you’re looking at windows, they can’t ascertain your financial situation.” Words to live by
I do. I have bigtime love for y'all, knowing I'm loved by The Best, even when I don't deserve it. I really hope each of y'all are doing well. For me, I feel the mentally-best when I'm being creative, and I want to see others do that too. :)
I love this! Instead of throwing out broken things, you not only restore them, but also give them unique personality. Just like lacquer wear and tear on guitars creates a history of your time using it.
Crafsman, I wish you would get a spotify account and post all of your original music up. I would listen to it all the time. Also... plate falling. apart nearly sent me to the hospital laughing... Thank you so much Mr. The Crafsman!
LOL! Glad you liked that plate situation. It was 100% unscripted. I just kept on going as if it would all still work out. (Also, hold those pieces together longer than I did. ;) ) I have a lot of my MP3s on Patreon as downloads, but I wonder how difficult it is to get them also on Spotify.
@@TheCrafsMan My band looked into it... it's not really that hard. You have to pay a distribution company about $75? to get licensed I think and then you are good to go. We never did it, but need to. I need to get off my rear and help with Patreon too... but we've been saving lately. As always thanks again and keep....... *looks under the table*..... *looks outside the window*... steady craftin!
That bottle was touch and go for a bit, but I really like how it turned out. Kinda shows that something might look rough on the outside but can be shiny and gold on the inside.
Thank you! I almost scrapped it (and the whole video) but I had already put it up to a vote on Patreon, so I felt like I had to push through. And I'm glad I did. I appreciate your comment!
In Hepburn romanization for Japanese, the "i" is equivalent to "ee" in English. "Keen"tsugi The root "kin" means metal, usually of value - genkin is the word for cash, due to coinage being prominent in the Japanese monetary system. Typically, kin refers to gold though, where as gin ("g", like in gray) means silver.

@@thesturm8686 More or less. The T is present in Tsu. It's pronounced like ... well like in "It's", briefly at the beginning, but the main emphasis on the Su. There is a "Tsu" character as well as a "Su".
The bottle looks great! The only improvement would be to fill up some of the deeper cracks with something (polymer clay? Super glue and baking soda?) before you add the gold. The epoxy method clearly needs a much brighter gold powder and very controlled application. I actually have a handmade ceramic pint cup that I've been wanting to do the epoxy method with for years now. Thanks for making some mistakes for me :) Maybe I'll actually get around to doing it.
I agree with this 100%! I thought of doing a filler but wanted to see just how it would turn out with straight gold leaf wedged into it. That ended up being a sort of filler in itself, but still - you're right - adding the gold leaf on top of a filler would have given an even nicer result.
Crafsman, I've tried this before, and I found that the gold mica powder I used seemed to act like an accelerant in the epoxy I'd chosen (PC-Clear). You might consider just mixing up the epoxy as normal (with no additive) then just dusting the seams with the powder so it clings to the epoxy that's squeezed out of the seams. I really love how the concrete bottle turned out though! Also, as much as new windows cost these days, if you tell someone you're window shopping while you're looking at windows, they might just think you're rich....
Crafsman your the BEST!!!!!! Your voice is so so relaxing! I tried to use Kintsuki too but....I think I made it even worse . Every time you make a new video, i get so hyped up because I know I'm gonna learn something new from you. Love your video CrafsMan!
To make my fake kintsugi I've found it helps to slightly bevel the edges on your broken pieces with a cheap dollar store diamond file. Then use thin super glue to put it back together. Paint over the cracks with metallic (water based) acrylic and let it dry. Don't worry if you go over. May take a few coats to fill. After the paint has dries use a slightly damp cloth to rub over the filled area to smooth/sand the area down level and clean off the surface paint. Also it is pronounced more like keent-su-gee. The letter "I" in japanese is pronounced like"ee"
Craftsman my brother and I love you so much, I edited a video of you for his birthday to make it look like you’re congratulating him. My brother lives in the US and I live in Israel and one of the things we send each other constantly is your videos ❤️ please never stop!! 🌺💐
From what I understand, Kintsugi is all about finding beauty in imperfection. I think each piece looks good, especially considering the fact that this was the first time you tried it. The bottle at the end looks great!
You can turn on auto-generated titles. They contain a lot of mistakes, but they help. Crafsman does his own version of a particular American dialect. As an English teacher, I can say it’s one of the more beautiful examples of spoken English you’ll ever hear.
That concrete vase looks gorgeous in the end - like some kind of magical artifact! Also, the music in this episode was fantastic! Real chill 80's neon vibes. Thanks for another delightful video!
Just when I thought I couldn't love you any more...I am proven wrong again! I LOVE that you did this! I love this concept and had JUST written about it recently. Here's what I wrote: "Contemplate this thought today. Imagine that whatever hardships you’ve encountered on your journey that have “cracked” you, were an essential part of your growth - to make you into the fabulously unique individual you are today. See if you can imagine yourself lovingly, painstakingly dusting those cracks with gold. Stand back and admire them; appreciate them; and maybe even be grateful for them. " I also love that you show yourself just trying something, even if it doesn't turn out perfectly the first time - gives us all more confidence to just try. Although, I'll have to say, I LOVED the way that bottle looked when you were done! Thank you for sharing this today, Crafsman! You are a gem! I'm so grateful for your channel...
I hate that I know exactly which Mr Bean episode that tiny clip was from, but man oh man do I love TheCrafsMan. Edit: all the results were fab, but man that bottle turned out beautifully!
Maybe it's because I had a rough night and my brain is kinda soup, but honestly I could watch an entire video of you playing with floaty gold leaf. Not even necessarily doing anything with it, just enjoying the floaty shiny. And really, things turned out beautifully. Much love. ❤️
I do think the gold leaf looked a bit better, but maybe combining the processes by using the resin to provide the structural integrity, and then covering that with the gold foil...
I did this back in the day with epoxy and brass filings (gold is expensive and all that). It was still beautiful and my favorite mug managed to live another ten years after that before finding itself thoroughly crushed when it fell under the tractor. I utilized a "food safe" epoxy for the whole thing, but this being back in the late 90's, I've since realized it probably wasn't actually food safe considering it's not available for purchase anymore. There may be decent replacements out there today, though, I just haven't looked. As long as you're not putting it in the microwave (the metal content can do some crazy things in there). Another thing that I learned was that it was a good idea to use more epoxy than you need. It should be flowing out of the joints so you can get a good surface finish without pits later on. Often it helps to construct a jig if you can. I ended up using extra foam packing material and I carved it to hold the pieces in place while the epoxy cured. That's really the hardest part - getting the epoxy to the right working texture and then putting the puzzle back together... you don't want to be asking yourself which piece goes where in the moment, you want to be FULLY prepared and have it all planned out. The final recommendation I have for anyone trying this is to do a number of test pieces (just like CrafsMan did) before working on your favorite mug. That's what I did, and the first two mugs I fixed were horrendous. The third looked pretty good, and then I felt ok going in to fix the favorite mug.
Wow. That concrete bottle turned out absolutely stunning. And I love the care you took to gently lay in the gold leaf...such patience! It's wonderful Crafsman!!
No offense, but your voice makes me want a big warm hug SO BAD!!! My friends sister (an older woman) is from alabama and has a voice like yours... She is sooooo sweet and loving and kind and warm.
