Do not be discouraged - you have a fine baler. First place to start is with the operators manual. Set everything per the book. Cycle the knotters by hand slowly noting both knotters should cycle through their stroke identical. Do not guess. Next look youtube, New Holland has an old video showing exactly how the knotters work. Third, post questions to the yesterdays tractor forum in the Implement alley section. Lastly - if push comes to shove, get a NH mechanic out when you are baling to troubleshoot the knotters. Best of luck...👍

Just liked and subscribed. I am 72 and bailed many a square bale. Those new holland are very a good design. And Ive used a worn out 268 for many years. Mine was much worse than your's appears to be. Its got to be correctly timed. different length bales indicate out of time. That plastic twine is slicker so the bill hook tension needs to be tighter. And the gap in the bill hook might be too large and a bit of grinding necessary to tighten it up. The needles need to lay the twine across the knotter at the right distance. Knives need to be razor sharp. knife arm needs to rub bill hook to wipe the knot off. I think I could have it sorted very quickly. My advice Get on U Tube and watch every new holland video, the knotters are the same on most of the older bailers. Even JD used the same knotters. Make adjustments and take some bales apart and feed with a pitchfork in the barn and get it fixed before the rain quits. You dont need to be extra smart to fix that bailer. The smart guys are the ones who designed it.

Hoping the adjustments I’ve made will let it work! 😁 and thanks for the tips!

That's why I don't use a twine baler! They're a pain in butt to work on and get correct so they will tye. Wire tie balers are so much easier to work on.

Good to know! And yeah I’m finding out they’re a pain!

Instead of regaling hand tie the bale's while they r in the baler or the shute. We did that a lot with a baler we had. Good luck

We did start doing that and definitely saved having to rebale them. Hopefully it’s fixed now!

Every baler no matter what the brand uses the same basic array of parts to tie a knot.....Gaining a complete understanding how each part functions in the processs aids in deternining where the problem is in a failure...... You are looking at the whole assembly.........Cycle by hand, watch and compare each part as it starts and completes it role in the process of tying........oddities will present themselves......You have a headstart because you got one side working.......Look for excessive wear in the rollers on the knife arm and billhook, check for correct timing on the gears and gear tooth contact that rotate the bill hook.. and twine disc

Thanks for the tips ! I have been checking a lot of that stuff and looking and turning stuff by hand, we did find that it was tying incorrectly and the one twine would slip in under the billhook and then the knot would tie itself incorrectly around the hook and pull tight , I’ve made some adjustments since then and hoping it works now

Maybe start swapping pieces between the two knotter sides and see when the problem moves across?

I’ve went from sisal to poly and no change , seemed better at first but then right back

My opinion is that you need to get yourself a baler that works instead of wasting money and your time on the one that isn’t working for you
@shaffershomestead
@shaffershomestead Год назад
Yeah I’ve thought about that trust me however the amount of time, money and effort put into this one it would almost be a waste to just get something else and I could end up running into the same probs with a different baler. My other theory is I can’t let this baler beat me I need to win!!

@@shaffershomestead you keep fixing that baler it’s going to put you in your grave sooner than later because I can tell in the video that you are getting really frustrated with the baler because it’s not working properly
@shaffershomestead
@shaffershomestead Год назад
@@joshbutterfass5251 yeah I definitely know what you’re saying, I did make a lot of adjustments recently again so hoping the next baling session will be free of issues! Now they want rain for the next week or so, no more cutting right now!
