Attempting to Destroy Arc'teryx's Swanky Hiking Shoes (Aerios GTX - Can Ultralight Shoes Be Tough?)

I have issues with this topic. My feet are my worst enemy. After 20 plus years as a nurse they are the first things to quit. I love my Teva Tirra Sandals. I wear them all the time. The most comfortable for me. I still struggle to find a shoe comparable. I live in PA so wearing my Tevas year round isn’t an option or I totally would. I absolutely wear socks ( fashion statement for sure ) with them to stretch out the year but that only works for so long and if they get wet. Game over. I’ve tried so many different shoes. But alas the journey continues. With all that being said thanks for the shoe review. Keep up the great videos.

Comfort. Have same Salomon and Arc’teryx shoes. Salomon wins by a hair for comfort and grounded feeling but Arc’x is lighter and is extremely comfortable.

Norda 001, try those. They’re made with Dyneema.

I think Topo Traverse combines the best qualities of weight, durability, and value for a backpack shoe, imo.

My money is on comfort and durability. I took my La Sportiva TX3s (approach shoes) on a 5 day trip in Yosemite and wished I wore something more comfortable. My body was pretty wrecked afterwards. They’re great for hiking to climbing areas because they stick to granite, but I regretted wearing them. Last weekend, I decided to wear my La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX boots on a 3 day trip over some class 3 terrain and I was quite happy with how they performed and stoked that my back, calves, and feet weren’t in any pain. (Not a surprise though because I’ve gone through 3 pairs in the last 6 years.) My .02 on the ultralight topic is that it’s not an “either, or” sentiment - you can have both and be happy. I have a quilt, sleeping pad, and tent that aren’t considered “ultralight,” but compared to everything else in the market, they’r light. Everything else that I wear (pack, boots, etc.) aren’t lightweight because I value comfort, especially if I want to keep doing what I’m doing for another 40 years.

I had durability issues with Merrell shoes too. It did not take long before they started to fall apart.

Love my Brooks Ghost running shoe. I’m not a backpacker but I do hike a lot here in Utah. Comfort is what’s most important to me. And no I don’t work for Brooks I just love there shoes.
