This is a mini documentary to celebrate my 35 years earning my living as Attila the Stockbroker. It was directed by the very talented Farouq Suleiman and I think it sums me up pretty well. Recorded in some of my favourite places: at home in Southwick, West Sussex, in Shoreham Port, 800 yards from our front door, at Brighton & Hove Albion FC's Falmer Stadium (that's what we fought for all those years, that's what I'll always call it!) in Harlow, Essex where I started out as Attila, and live at a gig at the lovely The Greys Pub in Brighton. With some vintage footage of me with HAIR and background music by my medieval punk band Barnstormer. Well done, Farouq. Thanks. And, folks, if you like it, and know someone else who might, please share away! We are DIY :)

Keep up the good work, don't know how I didn't think of looking you up on RU-vid before. We used to walk to school togerher from Victoria Road, haven't seen you since about 1971 (my fault, I moved to Britanny). I've become allergique to the UK but you are the only person worthwhile crossing the channel for. Maybe next year.....

I was in HMP ford around 15 year ago and he came in and done a thing for the prisoners , his wife was a teacher there and very nice lady . Didnt agree with his politics then and still dont now but thank you for taking the time out to relieve some of us from the mundane prison life for a couple of hours.

Great to see this, just wish it was longer and more widely known. Been listening to and watching John perform since 4 October 1988 in Camden and caught him again in Melbourne when he came South as well as Camden few years ago - always worth catching him live.

Thanks! Remember your name :) No need to worry about me - I earn my living doing what I love, and that is the most you can ask! Planning another Australian tour next year...

Good to be remembered, or should that be good being memorable? :D Definitely not intended to suggest we should worry about you as I have seen your pleasure in doing what you do and totally agree, that is the way work should be. Just want more people to share in that pleasure. Look forward to seeing you next year and catching up for a pint. ;)

I stumbled into you by chance, on an audio documentary included with Post Punk Diary. Your poetry is poetry, anyone who says otherwise is a snob.

This is brilliant - so loved 'Foyer Bar' - I was one of those in jeans and leather who used to hang out there without ever quite fitting in - really lovely to hear your reflections on your life as a poet and to see pics of you with hair again! It's been a long time!

"Credit crunch = collapse of capitalism." Absolutely correct. Keep doing what you're doing. I actually got interested in you because the juxtaposition your name gave me a good laugh! I stayed because you've got good material.

Saw Atilla at the Kettle And Wink in St Ives about ten years ago among a crowd of about 30 people. I had no idea who he was at the time but I laughed my arse off and from that gig was inspired to lyricism/reduced to poetry myself.

Always considered poetry to be rather boring (the war poets excepted), until I discovered Atilla the Stockbroker, Seething Wells, and John Cooper-Clarke. Great stuff!

I don't know if you remember but some years ago you did a gig in leasowe with Dave Rovics, I was the warm up act. Anywhooo, I recorded it. It's on my channel. You wrote a poem on the day about new Brighton which seemed to raise a titter!

Hello, I am searching for one song (and also the guitar tabs) of attila the stockbroker, but I do not know the name. It starts with: "YOU NEVER THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD COME TO THIS... THEY TOOK YOUR FREEDOM NOW THEY WANT YOUR LIFE..." Could anybody tell me which song of attila this is? I searched on RU-vid, but I haven't found it.

A really moving poem he reads at the end. I'll have to go and see him next time he's in the area. He occasionally appears but I've always given it a miss because I thought he would just be a whining leftie with crap poems. But it looks from this like what he says is true and he is a good poet and entertainer.

Good doc. Though you weren't really fair on what hip hop can be and was originally. You can take synth pop but I'm not even that angry at them. You were all groundbreaking and sticking fingers up and breaking boundaries in your own ways. And this is cheesy in a righteous way. Even though I am angry at a lot of things. Good advice on publishing. But your status, who you are, helps the copies shift. I'm straddling worlds like a boss. But most of the poetry world I know acknowledges you and similar poets - at least to my face. Lol.
