The one crow that is constantly looking behind him is new to my backyard. 😆 The one that lingers and eats seed as well has been with me since last summer.
One thing to do is let them see you when you put out the special treats. Or anything really. That way they will associate you with the food and see you as a friend. And I love that sneak up sideways routine, they act like hooligans that know the cops are watching.
The direction I come into the backyard is the way he or she keeps looking. Like I’m going to sneak up on them 🤣. The other one knows I’m sitting inside cause they know to look in the window. They are characters for sure!
Not just let them see you - only put the treats out when you are there, and police up any unclaimed treats before you leave, otherwise you are training them to wait for you to go away.
That sideways approach is body language that says “I’m fearful here and ready to run (fly). When they’re not afraid, they walk straight in. That’s the clue you can move the treat a little closer.

My Crows love peanuts. I feed them at home and outside my window at work. There's a large group that show up early when I refill my bird feeders. I sprinkle the peanut mix in the grass, and they come flying as I'm backing out the driveway. The Crows at work even knock on the glass by my desk. 😂
Wow, those are some big hunks of meat! I mostly feed my crows friends, at home and work, peanuts in the shell, they love them. My work crow friends are so smart. They know my car and will see driving down the street before I’m even at work and follow me, then land right on the fence in front of where I usually park
Yeah! I have a family(murder) of 5 ! They eat chicken, chicken gizzards, beef and pork ribs, sausage, hamburger mine are big time carnivores! They get everything, pizza, chicken wings, bread, salad, apples any scraps !!! I also have a family of the Red-Tailed Hawks that visit daily too. I've also had Turkey Vultures!!!
I swear they orchestrated a flyby. The first Crow caws to his friends when he sees the squirrel, moves up on it, and then next second you here flapping in the background and one of his friends swoops down to scare it away!
@@DeborahThird-og1uo Both species eat vulnerable and/or deceased individuals of the other one, I was shocked to read that squirrels are actually omnivores.
Yes indeed they are funny I put out table scraps year round and don't laugh I call them with my cellphone there are bird calls on RU-vid I of course a crow call works every time .Another thing they seem to recognize with food is I bring the scraps out to the back yard in a plastic sandwich meat container after I drop them by the bi4d feeders I take the knife or spoon and beat the container like a drum that works as well.
I love crows. They are so fascinating. Rescued a crow last year luckily he was rehabbed and released. They leave me presents since I do feed them and sometimes the mark their " feeding spots" with twigs like an X marks the spot. ❤🐦⬛🐦⬛🐦⬛
We had one up there at Cortez pipeline goldmine up there near Elko, Nevada that would take a granola bar out of your hand out of the window of the triple 7D hall truck that has the window you can slide open I used to feed him puff Cheetos
This video is the last time I gave them such a treat. They still visit some but know I don’t like them hunting my chipmunks! A few days ago a pair brought down their 3 fledglings. They still had pink around their mouth and eyes. And a bump on their beak. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera out 😭 They were so noisy and cute 🥰
The happiest crow I ever saw was on top of a building on a college campus. It had just caught a mouse and had it in its beak. I swear that crow had a big smile on its face. Yes, crows love meat, but so do bears, coyotes, and mountain lions.
“Consider the ravens: They neither sow seed nor reap; they have neither barn nor storehouse; yet God feeds them. Are you not worth much more than birds?”
I was feeding my crows they knew when o leave for work and come home but now the 2 squirrels seems to eat all the peanuts chasing the crows away, so I stopped I’m not against squirrels. I just like crows & birds more
I want a pet crow 🤣 I got my fiancé to agree that Im not allowed to just buy one, but if I can attract one and befriend it then I’m good to go. I’ve been leaving chips, but maybe it’s time to upgrade 🤣
Please don’t capture a wild crow or any bird. They are usually paired and if you separated them you’d break their hearts. I rescued a parrot and it is amazing how deeply emotional birds are. Consider adopting a homeless parrot from a rescue but only if you’re willing to put in the endless and very expensive work and commitment they are. This isn’t like having a dog or cat either
This was some old venison from the back of my freezer. I try to only put out “Whole Foods” but do put out the occasional peanut butter sandwich. They love them as well.
Holy cow! That’s crazy! But I believe it. I was driving one morning and noticed a crow sitting on top of a telephone pole with a rat in his beak!! The road I was on runs along a river so I’m sure that’s a popular hunting spot for them.
We harvested a deer a couple of years ago. This is some scrap that got pushed back in the freezer and forgot about. Instead of wasting I decided to share
I know there is a pair near me. I see them sometimes way up and hear them almost every morning. They are so smart and know humans are unpredictable. Maybe one day?🤷♀️
A flock of crows is called a murder of crows . As great as they are to watch , the wild songbird population will disappear from your area.I have also seen them eat baby bunnies until none were left in the nest.
I only really see the crows in the winter months now. I live on the edge of a wooded area and I believe they roost there. I learned the hard way that they will eat small animals. I work at home and sit at a window at the back of my home. I have a perfect view of this spot. I have several chipmunks that visit and last spring one of the crows picked one up by the tail!!! I immediately jumped up, the crow saw me and released the chipmunk. The crows stopped visiting for the most part once that happened. They can see me sitting in the window. I was shocked when they started visiting again but hunger can be a huge factor. Once the chipmunk incident happened I stopped encouraging them. But they know there is food here. I do like that they sound the alert when the hawk is out but I will have to watch them closely again this spring. Once weather is better I’m out in the yard gardening when I’m not tied to my work desk
i have 15+ chickadees in a tree close to where i leave food for a pair of crows and they'll absolutely outcompete the crows in wiping out the plate clean lol. heck, they'll even eat the scrambled eggs i make for the crows occasionally. absolute gluttons
The songbirds coming to my feeders are not in the least bit bothered by the crows. The crows and squirrels co-exist. I feel that if they get meat, eggs, and high protein food on a platter, they are less likely to rob nests.
We harvested a deer a couple of years ago. This is scrap that was pushed to the back of the freezer and forgot about unfortunately. Instead of throwing out I decided to share.
@@WarrenPeace007 I’ve had similar results. The crows are very cautious. They come for the peanuts, but balk at closing the distance. I’m waiting for a fledgling. Birds have a ‘window’ for a few days after they fledge when they imprint new behaviors. They follow the adults around, and ‘learn to be birds’. If a youngster gets led to my peanut offerings, and learn that’s OK crow behavior I may be able to draw it onto my hand. It’s not a sure thing, but it’s fun to try.
Of course. They even hunt mice, small birds and young of several kinds (e.g. squirrels). Most of the food of ravens is stealing from wolfs's kills. In my experience what they love most is (fried) minced meat. They also love fish fingers/sticks and egg yolk.
Around here, one of the leading causes of crow mortality is a squirrel that gets run over on a busy street. Trying to eat the squirrel gets the crow run over.
Mine are super skittish. But they do like hanging out around my yard. (I live on the edge of a wooded area). I really think they keep an eye on me. Curious about what I’m doing 😄
I had one that would come get snacks often and I would say hello to him in a raspy crow voice… and then say it clearly… one day I got a txt from my brother saying “ your crow is in the tree’s saying hello” I flipped!! Said record it and he got audio of the crow practicing his hello… he also gave me a squirrel arm from a skeleton.. and a shiny chunk of glass and a shiny spoon… I felt so loved… lol… still have the audio of him clucking and saying hello in different ways… it melts my soul
I’ve tried to make friends with my crows. They come eat the nuts I leave for the squirrels and the seed but not while I’m out there. I befriended a wild rabbit but birds just won’t play along.
@@lilbirdblue1 They hang out a lot more in my tree, I guess small victories. I learned from the rabbit to allow them to approach you when they’re comfortable. So I wait.
We harvested a deer a couple of years ago. This is some scrap that got pushed back in the freezer and forgot about. Instead of throwing it out I decided to share. Putting meat out is not something I do normally
The only thing about this video that I don't understand is are those raw cuts of meat that seem huge for their little beaks? AND, when they fly away with a chunck do they tear it apart to eat?
I want to try to attract local crows, but I'm not keen on putting meat out... and even if I did, not on the ground where other beasts can get it (cats, coyotes, racoons, etc).
I only did this with spoiled venison a couple of times. I did not want to waste it or just throw it out. I agree. I don’t want to attract coyotes either. I respect them but don’t want them in my yard.
