And I've been waiting PATIENTLY for this video to be released, so I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the hell out'a this series!! Yeeeeehaw! "Got the can of Lysol?", he says and then sends Ms.K in first - BAHAHAHAHA!!!! The map - I like it! - does it have GPS capability? Like, can you see where you are on the map as you're driving? Custer's Peak was amazing! Especially the crapper review! I cracked up at "A log shit house, can't beat that" & "I'm not even gonna touch that" WOW, it was dry there! Dusty as all heck! I'm excited for this series good buddy! Glad you made it out that way. Hope you found it to be worth the trip. By any chance did you locate any of the outhouses in the middle of nowhere? Oh, you're knocking out Custer peak right away. :-) there's the crapper! Alright, pack it up, this trip is done. I'm surprised they blocked the lookout balcony, but not the outhouse, especially post-covid. I know when we ran around there in 08, you would occasionally come across old foundations and stuff. I'm sure it's a lot easier to navigate out there now, at that time there was very little info to go on. Good times KC ATV crew.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 3 года назад
Haha, yeah crapper review for Q I believe that was the only crapper we found out on the trails. Didn’t find any old foundations, or maybe we just missed them. The trip was definitely worth the drive we had a good time couldn’t have done without the dust though! I assume they didn’t have an app for your phone with the map back in 08. Couldn’t imagine riding those trails without the ability to have the map on our phone Thanks for checking out the video my friend! More to come.

@@kcatv9556 I hear you about the dust. We went in June, and supposedly it's usually pretty dry out there. We kind of lucked out and had some rain pass through throughout the time we were there to keep things at perfect conditions. One day we rode over to WY and had a storm come through on us. It was amazing how that trail changed from your typical hardpack into some seriously slick clay. It was amazing. Yeah In 08 smart phones existed (my dad and I had blackberries, and another guy had a windows phone) but they were nothing like how it is today, especially for Offroad navigation. My dad and one other guy had Garmin's, and we kind of would figure out where we wanted to get to, look around on a paper map to see which forest roads connected to that area, and then we would just kind of run down trails and see where they took us, revisiting the map when we came back to a marked road. I'm not sure what the rules and regs are now, but at the time I was out there, SD allowed access to orv traffic on trails that appeared to be traveled by other vehicles. So logging roads, two-tracks, any semblance of a vehicle track, were how we would make our way to our planned destination. Once in a while they would dead end, but most would eventually end up somewhere. We asked several rangers, and were told this was legal at that time. I should ask my dad if he still has any of our gps tracks from that trip. At that time, I don't think the Black Hills had the visitors it apparently sees now, judging by your video. In the week we were out there, we only ever passed 1 other rider (a local kid) throughout all of our rides. It was so significant to us, we stopped and talked to him for a while and asked him about it, and where everyone was. Coming from Northern WI, near Hurley, which has been a big riding destination forever, it was a very different feel having so many miles of riding opportunities, and virtually no one out there experiencing it. Very much felt like we were discovering a secret riding area, haha. Looks like the secret's out now, but that's ok. It's a very cool area that should be seen. And the tourism money is what will keep it going. I'd really like to go back again one of these days.

I...really don't know what the small out building was. Small root cellar with a square vent hole? I've only ever seen something like that on a historic military armory site. Small thick walled stone room with an overhead air vent and a "blast corner" to direct an accedential blast upward and out away from other buildings. That was the area where you walked down to get to a wooden door where gun powder or munitions where stored. An actual "powder room" Im open for the correct answer! Nice run KC

Hi Jacob wow that’s a good question, actually kind of difficult to answer. Colorado has to be the top of the list for spectacular views for sure! Hatfield McCoy had some of the most cool trails in a really interesting area of West Virginia. We also really like the trails in Arkansas, Ozark national forest. They have that deep in the woods feeling. We also liked Windrock in Tennessee was very similar to Hatfield McCoy trail system but all contained in one trail system, I hope that made sense? I would say one of our funnest week long trips was Colorado just because of the amazing views. Hope that helps you out have fun on your trip this summer! Thanks for checking out the video!
