Will Liverman and Lawrence Brownlee perform "Au fond du temple saint" from Pearl Fishers by George Bizet. The concert took place on April 21, 2018 as a part of the Wheaton College Artist Series.
How does Wheaton College rate a performance worthy of the Metropolitan Opera or La Scala? Just incredible! Brownlee's and Liverman's voices are beyond world-class. And the orchestra is impeccable as well.
I come back to this periodically so I can just bask in the sound these men draw out of one another. Each voice has its own unique beauty and aesthetic, but even their vibrato and quality sync up when singing together. Each is so talented, and miraculously the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Bravissimi!
I'm already a great admirer of Lawrence Brownlee with whom I had the privilege to work a few years ago and now I can extend my admiration to include Will Liverman, not only a beautiful voice but a great musician. The two of them together here is sheer magic!
Liverman is now one of the "it" singers at the MET. He has arrived. I'm looking forward to hearing him as Malcolm X next season. And I can't wait for Brownlee's Magic Flute performance this spring.
I am based in South Africa and a huge classical music fan and I recently discovered Will Liverman. A fantastic artist. But when I came across this performance, I thought what a treat, because I was already a fan of Lawrence Brownlee. Bravo! And thank you!
Mr. Brownlee is blessed with a gorgeous voice, but of course he has worked long and hard to cultivate it so that it shines and shimmers as well as it does in this performance. His enunciation is so clear! But his tone is one of the most beautiful tenors I have ever heard. Mr. Liverman is simply wonderful and what a match they make! I envy those who were present for this performance. Both singers sing with an open, clear throat, no constriction or strain whatsoever. Extraordinary and, I would even guess, historic performance because of its virtuosity and beauty. All that said, I have listened to Jerry Hadley and Alan Titus' duet performance of this aria several times and the feeling that Hadley conveys is much, to my mind, more deeply expressed.

Lamont, Stranraelwal and Massimo, you are all together right. It's almost impossible to say wich one of these three version is the best... these are all 3 outstanding versions of this duet.

@@jisiri Yeah, Bjorling and Brownlee are both world-class singers, albeit in slightly different rep. I don't THINK that Bjorling ever sang as much Rossini as Larry does (partly because that just wasn't a thing that was going on during much of his career). I don't hear any real difference in Brownlee's voice since he lost a bit of weight. He's an incredible technician, as well as an unrelenting hard worker... He stays in touch with his instrument and how it's working from day to day (esp. singing some of the exposed/high Rossini that he does). I last heard him sing live as Almaviva in "Barbiere", at Chicago in October 2019. He was absolutely the star of that production... voice sounded as fresh and easy as when I first heard him sing the role for the first time, many years ago! Keep listening, and enjoying the great music out there (even during this weird time!) Cheers!
@Nancy at one point in time Not to long ago Blacks were Denied Opportunities to Perform on a Larger Scale or Even on the Same Stage with a White Person, So Pardon them for Having a Sense of Pride.
Whenever I hear this Aria it brings tears to my eyes and sends shivers down my spine. It was my mother's favourite opera aria. I am thankful to her for introducing me to this branch of music that so many, including me, would have dismissed as "too posh" if I had not heard it properly.
Absolutely gorgeous! I will be listening to this over and over again. Best of luck to both of you; you are extremely gifted. I hope to hear you sing this from the Metropolitan Opera stage someday (and before that maybe from the PortOpera stage here in Maine)!
I couldn't agree more as both men are wonderful here! Will Liverman made his Metropolitan Opera debut this season in Marnie (a new production) and is singing in two productions at the Met next season in Akhnaten (another new production) and in the Magic Flute as Papageno. I have seen Lawrence Brownlee sing live on several occasions (at Carnegie Hall for example) but never at the Met. He's never there when I'm there lol. He has sung in Met productions before but none recently. I think I Puritani (as Arturo) was the last Met production he sang in. He's long "overdue" for a return there for sure. Haven’t seen Will Liverman perform yet as I’ve just discovered him! :-) I’m looking at his performance schedule however and plan to go see him live in something really soon.
@@Michael-mh4vr Merrill was a fairly minor footnote in the book of "American" opera, and at the sideshow end of it. Don't mistake competence for ability.
Great rendering of this Duet, you both sing and complete yourselves perfectly, with a perfect french pronunciation. On TOP of the best rendition ever. Thopusand Thanks for sharing this beautyful version.
Fucking brilliant, these two will be able to work anywhere in the world with voices like that. Come & tour New Zealand, you'll have a great welcome. I loved the Orchestra but though some were a bit suspect in parts. But all in all, "Well Done"
