Not really. American political culture is highly hypocrite, as well as the French (European) one. None is based on moral grounds. That kind of dialogue of intelligence men is highly unlikely cause between them they are quite cynical about "moralization". CIA torture people (Haspel case), and nobody is really concerned.
@@sermec2076 It does not mean Americans have a higher moral ground on monogamy or anything else, just that it can be a very political issue in the US, and not at all in France. The history has shown us that.
This one and the shoe scene from season 2. And the bay of pigs incident, and the blue gerboa incident. I love how this show retcons historical events as the blundering accidents of some french buffoons trying to pretend they had everything under control.
And now even Luc Besson is being destroyed because he DIDN'T do quid pro quo... I showed my french friend this scene because it is shocking to me how much the attitude has changed. In some ways france is worse than america now
In case you like me didn't get the Maréchal joke, they are referring to Marshall Petain who was collaborating with nazis as a French head of state and who was sentenced to death after the war for it.
Not a french. But what choice did he have? If noone had surrendered, would South France be directly occupied as well? Petain at least got some degree of autonomy for the French.
@@cypp8245 Its more complexe than that. Petain and Franco secretlty pushed Hitler against Russia. It was a main moove to change the balance. About jews more than 90% of french jews were saved because we were giving foregners jews, some other countries its ore like 90% of jews killed... I don't say everything is white, but its a really complexe context when you are occupied. Everything is not dark or white, its more a grey shit with everything inside.
@@thomasb.5643 Hollande's mistress wasn't the reason his Poll numbers went down. It's how he handled Terrorism and Labor Rights. Every French President has a Mistress.
Well technically, he is right, it's not good for a politician to sleep with womens. We lost a Président like that, Felix Faure, he died in the Élysée (French White House) while his mistress was blowing him XD
reminds me of Sukarno, the Soviets/KGB tried to blackmail him on a trip with a tape that showed him having sex with soviet women only for him to requests copies of the tape
@@ada-boy an army officer above general. I'm fairly sure the title doesn't exist anymore. In this case it refers to the Maréchal Pétain, a former world war one hero who was the highest officer of the french army at the start of WW2, and was given full power by the french government. He then proceeded to surrender to Hitler, give the latter the northern half, and keep the southern half to himself, maintaining collaboration with the nazis. He famously replaced the "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" (freedom, quality, fraternity) motto with "travail, famille, patrie" (work, family, nation), which says it all really.
@@maximeteppe7627 "an army officer above general. I'm fairly sure the title doesn't exist anymore." It still exist. However, it isn't a rank properly say, it's a distinction, like the private 1st class. Marshall and 1st class don't have any autority over army general (général d'armée) and private (soldat). It's mostly a way to aknowledge the career and accomplishment of an officer. The title isn't used that much today, since flag officer don't really have opportunities to shine anymore, but it still exist. Funny thing, the french army actually has two other rank using the word "maréchal": maréchal des logis and maréchal des logis chef, which are NCO rank equivalent to sergeant and staff sergeant. They're mostly used in cavalry unit or former cavalry unit, like Gendarmerie, artillery, armor, train, etc...
Dans cette scene on voit que les américains auraient dans l idée de le faire chanter, Mais en france avoir une maitresse est d'un banal, qu'ils ne comprennent pas.
actor who plays the agent in begie suit has acting abilities only works by dropping cigarette ashes. also it is both funny and sad that older agents don't know english or german and suprise that andre knows. their world as big as france. Also they born into a war and lived to see another war. They spend their time battling and womanizing.
@@ImperatorClassyes, but it's part of what is being satirized. A running theme of the show is that the characters are under the delusion that France is a superpower on par with America and the USSR, just as the French Empire is fading into the past.
The Maréchal is a military rank but since WW2 it commonly refers to Maréchal Petain who was head of state during the French occupation and collaboration with the Nazis. Comparing Petain to the Général (Charles De Gaulle) is a hook to the jaw of the French that leaves them speachless.
Wait .... that marshal line had to be an innocent joke .... right, cause senior rank ? ^^ Otherwise, if not, than they just insulted the fuck out of every French in the room haha
Well yes, but, are you surprised comming from guys willing to cheat an election using some scandal, instead of protecting the democracy in their country ? :'D
Yes but before French spoke of the "little contribution" of the americans during ww2, so as french I think they deserved this "Marechal Joke". I think is just like buddies breaking each other balls, because no one react to the jokes.
A bit late but the joke is that the US government wanted to side with Marshal Pétain (Vichy France) rather than with DeGaulle (Free France), but were forced to go with DeGaulle thank to Winston Churchill.
