It's all brain. I'm a stroke survivor and I too knew what I wanted to say but it wouldn't come out of my mouth. I think most stroke survivors know what they want to say but can't form the words. She's very fortunate to have done so well after.

My cousin had 2 strokes at the age of 20 and 21. She had an eating disorder and it took a toll on her body at that age.

She's lucky it happened in front of friends so she could get immediate help, plenty of time to administer the clot-buster. A lot of people don't know, if you have a stroke and get to the hospital within 4 hours you have a good chance of a full and speedy recovery

Respectfully, your brain has many compartmentalized sections that handle different operational aspects. Awareness of not being able to speak happened in a still functioning area of the brain, separate from the speech center area which was not functioning.

Very cool description. I’ve long understood we are not this body. To hear the line between brain and whatever we are: consciousness, spirit, soul etc is also very separate is honestly exciting and liberating.

@@lohm8767 Yes, absolutely. Speech production isn't just one big neuron, it's many different steps processed in different parts of the brain. This was her brain going, "I know what I want to say, but the part of Broca's Area that's supposed to be translating that into mouth movements isn't responding, and I don't know why".

My manager is 30 and he tells us this happened to him growing up too- he doesn’t know why but it’s wild to hear someone else mention it! He would randomly wake up paralysed for about 15-30 minutes. We still have so much to learn about the brain.

knowing the answer and not being able to speak doesn't mean that you aren't your brain. it just means the part of your brain which controlled speech was compromised. she's just lucky the stroke didn't reverse the order, leaving her NOT knowing the answer but capable of babbling. it's an incredibly complicated organ.

Aubrey does not realize that it is her brain, that is one area/location of her brain, that is producing thought, but that a different region responsible for speech is what is specifically malfunctioning. This is why she can consciously conceive the content (what to say) while not being able to produce words (say what you are thinking). This is all happening in your brain. It is most definitely not the "soul".

Happened to me during my last seizure. The left side of your brain controls speech, so I assume if she stroked on her left side, the left side of her brain was the part malfunctioning.

My mom had a stroke from 1 round of chemo and she mad a full recovery in 2 months. She has euphasia still sometimes and stumbles over getting her words out but she does her best.
