SEE THATS what i was thinking when i saw this commercial. like how did they not know that birch water/ and maple syrup were things. like its so tacky.

Yeah there's also brand of hard liquor like gin that add birch sap instead of water in their distilling process, it's not like this is a new thing.

@@TetraTerezi Exactly! And also, by making this add they make people think of were 'real' milk (cowsmilk) actually comes from. And I think many people find it disgusting, when they really think about it.

When I saw the commercial I didn't realize it was satire and immediately went to the website to try it. I was very disappointed.

I still thought it was pretty funny but true. I’m not vegan. I still haven’t drank a glass of milk since I was 4 (1979) because my tiny brain blamed milk when I had to be sent to a childrens hospital and I wasn’t allowed to drink it while having certain tests. I like almond milk, oat milk, soy, etc. When I did drink it many people/families in my area still had their own milk cow and I’ve bought a large portion of my food/drinks from local, small scale farmers most of my life. I understand why vegans would be upset but I don’t think this is going to make a huge difference in adults life. Many people cannot do dairy. Many people won’t drink milk for various reasons.

People still colloquially call it soy milk, and many of them are surprised that it isn't officially called that because we can see a thing every day but never really look.

Do you also have "scrub milk" (cleaning supply) in Sweden, and other stuff that somehow is still ok to call milk even though it isn't? It's that way in Germany. I mean, it is ridiculous, but, as you imply, there are bigger fish to fry. I don't feel like it affects plant milks' sales wether it's called milk or drink.

Yes here in the Netherlands we also call it sea fruit, and just like Germany oat milk is called oat drink. But plant based yoghurts are still called yoghurt..

Same in Portugal. Oh and my 6 yo nephew calls it 'oat milk', his favourite, and btw he's never had any dairy crap in his life.

It just made milk drinkers wanna taste the plant milks to see what all the fuss is about lol. Previously, a lot of people assumed plant milks were mostly a vegetarian/vegan exclusive thing.

It’s a good thing. I absolutely loved her in Legion. She is funny and has a fantastic, sarcastic sense of humor. I’m not vegan but I personally do not understand people willing to boycott others over one decision that isn’t going to make a difference. I think too many are uncharitable today and it’s a terrible quality and trend in certain segments of society that has been increasing over the almost 50 years that I’ve been alive. You can’t simultaneously argue for a more just and forgiving society if you are unwilling to extend the benefit of the doubt or forgiveness in relation to minor things that are not going to make a difference. Millions of people that cannot/won’t do cows milk for one reason or another are not going to go running for it due to this commercial. It’s not going to cause a swell of support for dairy. There are some things that are absolutely worth getting upset over, cutting people out of your life/boycotting over, etc… This isn’t one of them, imo.

I'm actually for mandated clarification on both sides. And I'm tired of language being butchered and folded in on itself. Her argument on we've called other things milk and the like is ironically a natural fallacy argument. Just because we've done it before, doesn't mean we should continue. The creation of new words and terms are a good thing to me. And this goes beyond this topic, but for our thinking and understanding.

I mean it's not milk, it's misleading to call it milk, so it's entirely fair, you could call it soy drink for example as the other poster mentioned, that would be fair advertisement, it is in fact a soy drink made from wet grinding soy beans, it's an accurate name for it, but when i see "milk" i expect... well... milk

I'm Indian, and we use both coconut milk and cashew milk in so many of our curries. I recently tried walnut milk, and it's also delicious.

I didn’t even know it was made right near me! When I got elmhurst it was pretty watery but it was actual pure oat milk which has no fat so understandable. Maybe I’ll try another like the cashew for a higher fat, creamier milk.

@@c.s2193 however more and more people are also buying milk alternatives, as more people wake up and realize that the dairy industry has been lying to them for years, as they or their loved ones health are failing, they will come to realize that they never had to touch the stuff in the first place. Plus all the animal cruelty is simply not necessary. And the alternatives are getting better and better. The bad part right now, as already stated, is the price. Once it can equal dairy, you will see a much larger exodus from cows and others milk. Just a matter of time. I'd say with in the next ten or twenty years. Dairy is scared.

10 months after your comment, a gallon of milk can be had for about $3US. While quarts of plant based garbage runs between $4US to $8US, depending on brand ($16-32/gallon).

And I've heard that oat milk leaves the smallest eco footprint out of all the plant milks, at least in my country, so theres that little plus too.

I tried it with oatmilk and it worked- I think it's the oil content that does the work. So a milk that gets it's calories from sugar and not fat will act more like water. Maybe have a try with some coconut yoghurt/milk, I mean coconut is in many spicy southeast asian foods.

Exactly 3 of my grandchildren are very allergic to many foods they can't have any dairy products at all plus many other things my granddaughter is even allergic to bananas and carrots so many are very glad to a alternative.

Whether or not it is a good ad is yet to be seen; we don't know of it has had a positive or negative impact on dairy sales, it is too soon to know. It makes me want to buy a "got wood?" shirt, so for me personally it would have been an effective ad if they were just trying to sell shirts. It didn't make me want to buy dairy, so it wasn't an effective ad for their actual purpose on me personally. Hope that long winded over explanation clears things up for you .
