No. 14 Auburn scored six runs in its final three at-bats to come from behind and defeat No. 18 Iowa 7-5 Friday night in the team's first game of the Jax College Baseball Classic at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Trailing 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Mason Maners hit a solo homer to tie the game, sparking a three-run frame that also included a go-ahead, two-run shot from Bobby Peirce.
After managing two singles through six innings off starting pitcher Brody Brecht, the Tigers (5-0) tallied four hits, including three extra-base hits, as soon as Iowa (3-2) went to its bullpen in the seventh.
"We just hung in there," head coach Butch Thompson said. "We just saw a top-10 pick overall, but when they went to the bullpen, Maners' one swing got us back tied and we saw a chance after going through a ton of adversity for the first six innings of the game."
