Hi Chris, I enjoy driving. I get to see a lot: the highways, bridges, the scenery (the beautiful coastline and hill views with this one), and our similarities and differences all in one video! Would love to see more! Thanks for taking me a long and for the SHOUTOUT! Appreciate both so much!😊
Hi Jean glad you liked this one , I definitely had you in mind putting it out having enjoyed your city tours for a while now and as you say the differences and similarities between a country with 5 million and 330 million !!. I’ll make some more of these in differing locations I think, thanks for the support 😀
Thanks Peter, you’ll be struck doubt by the similarities to Aussie, theres a lot of cross synchronisation at a officials level between the two countries when it comes to signage etc .
Thanks Tony, I was debating if I should post this one , it was sitting on my PC for quite a while . Its off-peak but an interesting contrast to the same strip I posted during one of the hard lockdowns when I was sent to south auckland for my 2nd jab. (I live on the North Shore) .
Nice drive, all very familiar. I used to live on the shore and driving to town was always a treat seeing Auckland city looking, the harbour and boats. Thanks for jogging my memory. 👍 🇳🇱 🙋♀ 🇳🇿
Hi yes, seeing the city early morning is a treat although I can say when I changed to using the Birkenhead ferry back in 98 getting out of that commuter motorway morning rat race was heaven on earth and the view from the ferry pretty good as well.😊
It's a nice motorway and offers some great views during the drive. The roads looks clean and everything well maintained, a perfectly sunny day for a drive. Great tour of this area! 👍
Hi there, yes the city motorway with a lot of it elevated does offer some cool views, especially off the Harbour Bridge . 😀 thanks for coming by and leaving a comment 👍😀
Hi Chris this was interesting to see that you drive on the same side as us and its good to see your busiest place here. Thanks for this different style video from you, it was interesting to see :) ~ Anna
Thanks Anna, yes not so many countries drive on the left , one of them being Japan which is where we source a lot of good secondhand cars . I wasn’t sure about this video but I find one of two channels that do them quite interesting . If I get enough views I might do another somewhere different .
Nice ride Chris- you're a great driver!! Do they switch the lane back and forth manually? That seems like a lot of work, but also very safe. Spaghetti Junction looks really complicated! Enjoyed the sights that you pointed out along the way... I feel like I've had a mini visit to real life in Auckland!! :) 👍👍
Hi Jennifer , Yes the lanes on the bridge switch back and forth on weekdays , five towards the CBD in the morning and five in the reverse direction in the evening with four each way in the off peak and weekends .There are two big machines the size of locomotives that pick the concrete barrier up and move it one lane at a time, you can see one briefly if you freeze at 1:33 . The barrier is continuous like a giant chain. Its been in operation since 1990. A solution was needed after a series of fatal crashes on the curved approaches on the south side. There was an especially bad crash where an ED doctor from Auckland hospital was killed with it being recorded on the bridges CCTV , this of course pushing those with the $$ to act where as a few drunks offing themselves previously was some how “inevitable” . Working with crash data at the time we called this the “judge and jury “ mentality. Thankfully that kind of thinking has receded somewhat . Yes, I have a few km under my belt, estimated it one day - over 900,000 km with 150,000 of that in my job - road safety and road engineering - tends to get you out and about a lot - best part of the job of course 😀👍
@@Chris-NZ Ah, so this was your specialty! 👌 In Seattle they have reverse lanes for rush hour and weekends- with just arrows above to tell if you are green to go or red to not go- I don’t drive there in rush hour so I’m Not sure how well it works- Your solution seems much safer for all. Too bad about the Dr., but I’m sure this ended up saving lots more lives!
@@JenniferLupine hi, yes we have those lane use arrows in a couple of places as well, personally I hate them and never drive in the one that swaps . I’m sure the bridge barrier has saved many lives over that 32 years of operation. 😀
