At this auction the guys see one of the darker and more seedy aspects of storage auctions: the shill bidder. A shill bidder is somebody who drives the price of an auction through the roof, even though he has no intent of buying. The guys will need to be careful on this one or end up over paying for big ticket units.

I caught on after the third episode in a row showing the same competitive bidders at supposedly different storage auctions. Like, for example, from Orange county one episode, and then the next one in L A... Supposed to be on different days and times. 🤔

I still don't understand what is wrong with shill bidding. If my max is $500 and an item is shilled to $600, the seller simply loses out on my bid and may not sell the item. So what?
