The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (15400ST.OO.1220ST.03) has a stainless steel case surrounding a blue tapisserie dial (typically only available in AP Boutiques) on a stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle. Functions of the AP 15400 include hours, minutes, seconds and date. The watch also measures 41mm in diameter, 9.8mm in thickness, and 51.6mm from lug-to-lug.

They are comfortable - definitely - but they also wear big. Consider both 39mm models as well as the current 41mm collection if you find that the watch is just too broad for your wrist. Best, Tim

It is, but the whole boutique exclusive thing is not as rigid as it sounds.

The watches with the blue normally do go to the boutiques, and tier-one dealers receive any that remain. In the US, there are only eight remaining AP authorized dealers - for 300,000,000 people - that are not boutiques. That means almost all examples are sold through AP boutiques. Right now, the rumor is that AP will be transitioning exclusively to factory boutiques from an AD/boutique mix globally over the next five years. That same time span is said to encompass the arrival of AP pre-owned boutiques that will sell used inventory only. Best, Tim

Got it 👍 If AP eliminates ADs and goes exclusively to boutiques, then almost everything is going to be hard to obtain and prices in the secondary market will sky rocket. Typical supply/demand economics. Similar to what’s going on with the 15202 and 15400 blues. The 15450 blue seems to be catching some steam as well.

Beautiful watch but I Hear AP charges $3000 fr basic service coupled with a long wait time. Could you comment on this, by comparison Rolex is about $1000 and Patek a little more depending n complications.

ArchieLuxury nearly had a heart attack when he was quoted $3049 for a service and this was about 4-5 years ago now....

Hi Tim, I have a question for you, besides it's a great watch, classy, elegant, original design, nice automatic movement.. There are four small white markers between the big white markers, normally the hour hand should align perfectly to the first white small marker on 12min, on the second on 24 min, on the third on 36 min and on the last small marker on 48 min. On this watch this is not the case, which means when it's exactly 9:00 for example, the hour hand is slightly beside or in advance of the marker. Hope I was clear, and although this a tiny issue, I am honestly disappointed on AP skipping this, should not be on a 17,000 $ watch.

More like 105k. *I noticed that too and it has to do with how you set the time. My guess is that he hastily wound the watch for the video. I’ve had that happen with automatic watches (especially older movements) wherein they haven’t been worn or wound in storage for months and there’s noticeable hand lagging. Typical with a proper winding sequence, set and wearing of the watch will it run properly.

@@user-ls5jb4tb5w No problem. My ocd kicks in while setting my watches and I try to set my minute dial to match the seconds if no chrono reset. Actually just did this after reading your response and there is typically a bit of play with the crown and hand interfaces *quite a lot tbh, with the minutes hand.

How does Boutique price negotiation work? Is this like Rolex too where Dealers show a lot of attitude and there are no models available - as most of the poor man's steel rolex models (8-15k) are always sold-out.

@Thimble if they are selling at factor retail, I will not call that as a discount or negotiation. We understand that Grey Market sells them at inflated prices. Some folks get 10 to 20 percent off the retail price from AD on non steel models. Other question I had was around AP dealers - that is the experience of buying as clumsy as it is with Rolex AD where watches are usually never available and they make you feel like a beggar with money

Hello Tim, I've noticed that this particular model (same as mine), has a couple of small screws at the pushers of the clasp. The newer models of the 15400 do not have them, do you know why is that? I wonder if the manufacturer did it for an upgrade? Thanks a lot!!!

It's worth waiting. Don't lower your sights or settle for a lesser watch if this is what you really want. The 15400 is the most solid non-Offshore AP I've ever held, and it feels like it will last three lifetimes. Best, Tim

Hey dudes! My father owns this watch and its awesome! Also something i Find weird is that its glow in the dark could you explain this feature a bit further? Is it possible this model uses radioactive glow in the dark?

I recommend researching marathon watches and 226Ra. Radium dials have largely been replaced by phosphorescent or occasionally tritium-based light sources. If a watch does use ra226, it’s generally safe under the crystal and is dangerous to use or handle in raw form. Does your dad still own the watch?… helluva investment!

Had this watch and sell it off.. dont really know what the hype is all about.. yeah yeah the bracelet bounces off the lights beautifully blah blah blah but you will soon realise that the watch lacks character and depth and its overpriced.. boring and lackluster to say the least.. and the size is just too big even for my 6.75inch wrist. Gd luck to anyone who buys this.. they will soon understand what i mean..
