Oh no. Here we go again. I pre-ordered Maxwell. I trusted many positive reviews. Yes, my penroses broke too and now I find out that these also have such a serious problem with the quality of workmanship. 😢
@@AgoraphobicNews Based on what you can find on the internet, you cannot argue, that its a common issue, but also cannot negate that this might happen. If nothing is broken and its just the adhesive which lost its properties (which seems to be the case, when looking up this problem), you can just repair it yourself really easily. Just get some alcohol to clean of the residues of the original glue and replace it with something like a 2 compund epoxy.
Even after watching your videos on this headset I still ordered it. If I experience the same problem i would probably jb weld it back together as long as it still works and sounds good.
@@mchaysheerwan83 ya bro, they are working good and havent broke. I left the adjustment strap as is and it fits good. Great headset but the mic is kinda a let down, though you could just get a higher quality standalone mic if you want quality.

If I were you I would RMA. My set didn't work out of the box, and the customer support people were awesome and helped me right away. Now they're my fav headphones. It could help to have one notch on the tightest setting and the other on the middle one. That's how I wear mine now.
Yeah, I just got my replacement back and once I test it out I'll make a follow-up video to this. And yep, that's how I had mine also for a while. Probably the most viable choice. Both on the tightest setting seems too dangerous.
The headband on my Drop Pandas failed in the same area. I 3D modelled and printed a set of rectangular blocks with a closed channel inside. One side of the channel was printed with a slit in it allowing them to flex open during installation. They're the only thing holding these headphones together now and they've been working great for about 2 years. I think I'm going to do the same for these Maxwells before they break too
I’m another proud Maxwell owner that hopes Audeze will standup and address this major design flaw. We need someone from Audeze’s Engineering or Product Owner to provide a honest explanation of the faulty component and a mitigation plan for all current owners (mail-in warranty repair/free post-fix replacement). Not addressing this physical design issue feels criminal and irresponsible. Shame!
@@belgamsafnExactly. After reading numerous complaints with either the frame or cans themselves failing im going to stick with the Sony Pulse Elites that way I can purchase an extended warranty through bestbuy. I'd buy the Maxwells if they were sold through bestbuy but im not dealing with having to mail stuff back and play the waiting game. If I have an issue I can take them straight to bestbuy and swap them out with a new one. QC issues and Design flaws are keeping me away. Even if the sound quality is crazy good.
I had to set a pair back as the right ear speaker stopped working after only 1 month... Pity I loved the sound, but I have cheap headphones here that are still going strong after 5 years !!
got my pair 3 days ago, lost the sound in the left earbud completely today, i just dont know what to do anymore man, these were so good but they keep breaking so regularely, it sucks so bad man
The fear of this happening had me sell mine. I loved the sound but in the end I don't' want to fear using my headphones when I have solid metal headset that I don't' even have to worry about just work at 200 USD.
You may be right... I figured since they kept talking about the sturdy build and the fact that it has Bluetooth that taking it outside was legit but eh.
@BadIntent Stream Tech Reviews If I were you, I would ask audeze for a replacement and use headsets that are meant to be used outdoors. Wish i had some recommendations. I don't think gaming headset are tested in outdoor conditions when they are built
@@naturalfitness-1 I agree. These definitely weren't stress tested. And great idea, I had been planning on trying more consumer headphones from Bose, JBL etc. later this year anyway.
@BadIntent Stream Tech Reviews I am not sure how they stress test them. But I assume they did it in doors under normal conditions. They probably didn't factor in sweat, sunlight, rain, ect. Good luck man hope you find a good headset for the gym
Why am I getting harsh popping noise while listening to Soundcloud via USB dongle on my PC? I have tried different USB ports and I have tried quality vs normal streaming quality. Could it be that my custom eq has too much bass db?
Yeah I keep seeing the occasional comment about build issues. Otherwise I'd have got these. It's too much money for me to get something that might fail after a year or two.
Skim the Audeze sub-reddit for a couple of minutes and it will give you a good idea. Lots of people have theirs broken like mine and made threads on it, but the majority don't and never post anything. Audeze says they fixed the design flaw on newer batches though.
@BadIntent Stream Tech Reviews Since these have such great audio is it worth fixing /modding them to be stronger (without using tape lol) at this clear weak point. Just wondering as my pre-order is still on it's way and I don't think I'd fancy messing around with Audeze's hella long RMA process from the UK.
Good question. I'm not sure what the most effective way to mod them would be, but I do think the sound is so good it's worth at least trying. Problem is if the mod or fix doesn't work out very well, it's gonna make getting a replacement an even bigger PITA than before.
@@rg.milkman8056 been working great so far Sound awsome Works well for me on Linux, Windows, Android, and Switch. My Steam Deck has great bluetooth and so does this so almost no lag, don't even need dongle on it
AFAIK Audeze have have a pretty good track record with their customer support/warrenty, and since it broke quite quickly by a suspected QC/design issue they should offer a replacement/credit etc for you. Though it does worry me a little bit now I have placed my order and has been waiting a month for mine… I’ll treat them more delicately more than I otherwise would then. My daily wireless driver of choice atm is the Focal Bathys when out and about, and intended to use the Maxwell has a desk headset only.
No matter how good their track record is they would normally want you to ship these back to them at your own cost and from where I live and this happens to me, the shipping price might be close to 30-50% of the headset value.
I would be pissed. 300+ dollars and some glue is the only thing holding it together. their choice in comfort band literally destroys the product istelf. if I'm spending that much money I expect it to last.....
If this happened to me ill go on a dungeon run to a hardware store for the legendary tool called super glue and super glue it and it wont ever come undone again
My Audeze Maxwells audio drivers broke the SECOND time now! I'm actually so pissed to have spend 400 Euros for these, just for them to break in 9 (the first time) and 5 (the second time) for the same reason. For some reason it was always the left driver that broke. The drivers actually had a dent although i bought them brand new and after 5 months they broke. I will not get them the third time afetr refund, although they are the best sounding headsets i've ever owned/listened to. I'm probably going to the the Steelseries Nova Pro, or the new Turtle Beach stealth 700 gen 3.
They have sound on lock but design is -5. My 2nd penrose has broke now in the same spot and now I am broke and can’t buy new ones. Thank god I found this video before I believed Maxwell was the one I wanted but now, audeze is starting to lose my trust. Back to my steel series arctic 5 until I find something. I definitely do not have another $400 to dump in the garbage.
Both sides of the headset snapped off/got unglued for me after a few months use. First my right side, then almost exactly a month later, the left. I use my headset for work from home, so I just bought superglue and glued them back together instead of going the warranty route which would have required me to send in my headset.
I've got the same issue with the Audeze colab with hyper-x, 300$ top of the line headsets, the drivers were really good but the build quality was really poor. I got a waranty replacement but even that got broke again.
That’s my worry! I got a replaceme nt under warranty from the crinkle with the Penrose, and now I have a pair of maxwells for around 2 months and still no crinkle so far! I’m trying to be a lot more careful with them though.
Thanks for this. Was looking forward to this headset based on reviews praising sound quality, battery life and build quality. Now I'm really skeptical. Will keep on the watch.
Hey, i have been watching your reviews and am conflicted because i want a headset for gaming under $110 cad and dont know what to get. I was looking at the cloud II for $110 because i heard thats good but am still unsure. Any recomendations?
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Literally the same exact issue as yours my dude went to take them off during a shroom trip then 1 snap led to the whole thing coming off 2 hours later. head strap being tight as well as weird design could be it sinse im also pretty careful with my headphones. they dummy slow with the returns because of "backshipment". Keep up the Fire content too brother. your the only youtuber i trusted saying the maxwells were worth the purchase especially for the bass, very informative content🔥🤟
@@bigtaz.745 Did you get you're replacement? If so how has it been? Apparently they supposedly fixed that issue but who knows. Probably just added more glue or switched to a stronger bonding glue. Hope you're shroom trip wasn't ruined with headset issue.
I'm a pretty extreme basshead, so my custom isn't for most people but: - For FPS games I keep it completely default. Maybe +1 or +2 on 4 KHz to make it sound more open. - For most music I use: 32 - 500 Hz all 0 (default). 1 KHz -9, 2 KHz -9, 4 KHz -9, 8 KHz - 8, 16 KHz -9. In my experience, lowering the highs works out better than boosting the bass since I can raise the volume more before it starts to clip.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews you should try the meze 99 Neos the bass are great definitely for bass heads especially if you eq it I had the Sundara the bass wasn’t enough but the neos are perfect
Any update on what you ended up doing with the headset? I had the penrose myself, it broke, obviously lol I glued it back together, it’s still kicking but I want to upgrade to the Maxwell. You can’t beat audeze sound.
