Nice video I do the same thing because I am o CD with preventive maintenance. It makes sense to flush it twice. And then after the second flush, run some generics synthetic through it for 500 miles. Then dump that, and then you can put in your liquid Molly or whatever oil you choose for the next 5000 miles and go from there. . it's not cheap and time consuming. But it will help the engine last a long time and work and perform as it should

Sorry for your troubles, unfortunately I think even endless amount of flushing and engine treatment would fix this problem. It's clearly burning oil. It could only be the piston rings or cylinders, or both. I didn't notice any yellow foam on the first extracted oil (190 km of use) and most likely head gasket it's fine.

Just out of curiosity, how many miles did the previous owner go between services? I really think with these modern low tension piston rings and direct injection engines you really need very frequent oil changes (5,000 miles or so) and not the recommended 10,000+ mile intervals.

Firstly. How many miles is on the engine. If you have above 60k miles, I'll suggest you carbon clean your engine using sandblasting method, change spark plugs, engine oil n filter, water pump, service supercharger etc. Carbon buildup is the major cause of misfire in direct injection engines

Have you tried to have an uitrasonic cleaning of your injectors? Looks like you might have a clogged or faulty injector causing your misfires and rough running engine... As far as burning oil, do a compression test ASAP and start from there.

Not yet. Pistons have carbon buildup, I can see it through the spark plug holes. The piston in cylinder 6 however is clean and shining. Odd! Last time I removed the spark plug, it looked wet. Previous times, the spark plug was new/new like it wasn't even working at all. Suspecting malfunctioning FSI injector in that cylinder. May be my next move. Variable oilpumps and low tension pistonrings are designed for low friction engine oils. If i put 5w40 in my Volvo VEA engine i get a higher oil consumption then if i use the recommended 0w20.
@brarautorepairs
@brarautorepairs 7 месяцев назад
I asked Valvoline and they said that they are able to create an oil that flows really well at low temperatures while keeping a higher film strength than a 5w oil. The oil hydrocarbons are cracked so they aren't as random as conventional oil. Also, they have addictives which assist in keeping the oil together. There is a lot that goes into creating an oil specifically for the VW specifications. I wouldn't just look at the SAE numbers because you can have a large range of oils in the same weight category with different specs and even lower weights that protect better for the given engine's operating temperature. If you're going racing and cold starts are not an issue (where you expect the most wear on parts is on a cold start up) then I recommend going to a higher weight oil up to a 40 weight.

Since you are in africa the audi OE parts and cars like this are not locally available I think that after you exhaust all other options, rebuilding the engine seems like the frustrating but smart choice (assuming the car is sound otherwise). If you dump it, is the loss is going to be more than the fixing the engine? I speculate yes. If you can rebuild the engine you'll get some serious use out of the car that over time should make the loss less significant. If you dump it to get another similar vehicle it seems like you'd end up paying many of same costs you already to land this car again to land another car. I think the cost of landing two cars is probably more than the engine repair for this one. So you are basically stuck with the engine repair or replacement.
@ThatAfricanGuy
@ThatAfricanGuy Год назад
I may change my mind but right now, rebuilding is a no/no and engine replacement is a no. There are too many other things that are likely to fail. I am not going down that road of perpetual money dumping. Sometimes you should just accept a big loss to avoid a huge one. I'd rather use any other funds that become available to purchase an older car that I know will be reliable enough. I will try a few other things I have in mind. If this engine is really doomed, I will drive the car like that until it dies then move on.
