Using VCDS or VAGCOM if you go into ABS module and then measure blocks 001 002 003 you can see wheel speed for each wheel and whichever one is not registering or is giving false reading, that is the culprit. In my case, not only was my abs sensor rusted inside the opening I had to drill the sensor out and clean out the hole again, it still didnt fix my abs and esp light. I later learned that when the HUB/Bearing assembly goes bad it rusts inside or lets debris go and it sticks to the sensor because it is a magnet and it will throw it off over time and cause failure. So I ended up replacing both rear hub assemblies and bearings at the same time and it fixed my ABS and ESP light. Thank you. 2006 Audi A4 quattro 2.0l

this position is for fwd cars, if you have awd, sensor position is a little bit different

I have the same problem with rear abs sensor, I thought it was the corrosion on the toner wheel as the fault was intermittent but now it has stayed on despite cleaning the rust off. Helpful guide, thanks 👍

Im glad it helped you.

@ rust had built up between the sensor and it's mounting point increasing the air gap beyond specifications, that was the problem. 👍

Man , i had the same problem today, and the damn bolt that holds the sensor snapped after first attempt to remove it. So i had to remove everything , pads, disc, caliper, and the hub too, so instead of a 30 minutes job , it becamed a 4 hour job, we gad to solder a nut over the remaining screw/ bolt and it camed out in 1 minute. Never mind , job done, thanks for you tutorial, much appreciated.

Pig of a job! Just done this rear sensor on my B6. Allen head bolt rounded off, couldn't get any bit to work (hammered in a few), or a socket hammered over it wouldn't work. No room for a drill to drill it out. Cut a slot in the head and chiseled it loose but head then snapped off. Drilled around the bolt on the sensor mounting plate (from above) so the bolt was no longer holding that on. Sensor then splits in two when you attempt to pull it out so I basically had to destroy it by chiseling the plastic outer to bits, pull it all apart to get it out. New one was very tight going back in so I didn't need a bolt to hold it on (old bolt shaft still stuck in there anyway). And getting the wiring routed where it goes a pain too! Need a bit of string on the plug to pull it up through the hole under the back seat bolster! Be a lot easier with the car on a lift or with an inspection pit for routing the wire under the car. Prepare for scratched arms etc. Got it done without removing caliper/disc/backing plate, but one of those jobs where you wish you just gave it to the mechanic!

How I did this job: Took the disc off AND the hub. You need a 19mm Allen socket for this. Then I chiselled the sensor off, giving room to get molegrips and WD40 in there. The bolt came undone. Do not underestimate how difficult it is to thread the sensor cable through the body on Convertible models. It's a horrible job and you have to remove the seat base and pull the side trim panel out.

Did you make a new tap for the sensor screw or did you use nut with. Washer and bolt?
6 месяцев назад
Unfortunately, the screw remained in the aluminum during disassembly. Aluminum is softer than the factory broken screw. I solved the problem by drilling the aluminum and driving a self-tapping screw into it, turning the sensor there.

@ I have the same problem now. The original screw has broken in half while beeing unscrewd. What you think about drilling out the rest of it and using M6 bolt with nut and washer? Is it good idea?
6 месяцев назад
@@firecharge6488 Circumstantial. Drill out the original screw as well. Because the twisted harder metal can carry the drill. But drilling out or drilling through can be a good idea. A high torque is not required to tighten the sensor, so in addition to the screw, a suitable self-tapping screw is also perfect. The sensor is almost held in place by going into the hole. You almost get stuck in it.

Is there a way to check or know what part of the abs is broken without a scanner?

The connection point is available without moving the back seat. The connection point is by the left/right side of the back seat.
