I have that come up on my dash I was playing around with channel 001 in [55 Xenon Regulation] the lights still move up and down when start car and when driving on my audi a4 b8 so I need to do a basic setting or adaption
Thanks for the video. My 2012 A5 has an issue where the headlights move up and down upon accelerating but no faults on dash. Would you know how to fix this?
fa aj Hello, I am unable to fix it just yet but I've diagnosed the issue. It is due to a broken headlight level sensor in the rear left side of the vehicle near the wheel. Part number is 8K0941309F. I believe the part is held on by 2 screws. Hope this helps!

They're both adaptive light control fault codes for headlights. Either a break in the connections to swivel control or the sensor as shown in this video
Hi Marty I have this fault on my A4. VCDS VAG number coming up is 8k5 907 357A. Is this the part that is defective, and do you know what this is, and where its located. Reason I ask is it seems to be a different part number to that you replaced. Thanks
Hi Gene, VCDS has identified a different module than the one I showed in this video. The height control module you're looking for is in behind the glove box on an A4.
@@martymo9502 thanks Marty. I looked at the VCDS screen again. The fault code is 00497 Sensor for vehicle levelling: Rear. Am I still looking to replace the control module in glove box?
@@genecurley1121 Ah, I'd have a look on the rear axle for the level sensor arm, similar design as the front arm in my video. They don't see as much movement as the front one, so they can sieze up and break the arm at the ball Cup.
@@martymo9502 Thanks Marty. I'll let you know how I get on...! Do you work much on Vauxhall Zafiras? I have a fuel rail pressure sensor circuit low voltage issue. Car chugging about 50% of the time. Other 50% seems fine. One glow plug on cylinder 4 faulting also. Like the audi I am not sure if its the fuel rail sensor that's faulting or it might be actually doing its job and signaling the fault.... any ideas? Thanks again!
This is the best video on fixing the HRCD. All the other are a workaround by removing the fuse. Good Job. Curious, would the American models have the part on the passenger right side?
Subbed, My '09 S5 is doing this, turn hard to the right they point up in the air, turn hard to the left to make them go down again and point at the floor. Nothing is showing up in the dash though.
I found this very helpful, thanks very much. However, my problem is a little different. On the LHD Q7 (2007) the left hand xenon globe failed. I drove the car very few times at nigh due to this while I waited for the replacement globe to arrive. Obviously the failed globe error was present and only after a couple of drives did the defective range control error arise. I have just replaced the globe and the headlight bulb does not light unless I turn the light switch to fog lights on. Seems there is some other problem I am unable to fathom. Any ideas would be appreciated.
There are other reasons that the headlight motors don't work, if you plug into VCMS you should get the correct fault codes and error zone even though you've no dashboard error warning. There is another common fault for that era of headlight with broken internal headlight wiring. Another good video. I had alot of fault code's on my Audi a5 including this one they all came on randomly together .My car went into Audi for seperate job cvt trans fluid change and they told me that because my rear pads were very low it had set these faults off.Changed the rear pads myself and all the other code's went.
Yes, although Audis are fairly well equipped with monitoring sensors, sometimes the fault code will be secondary, ie it may get picked up by one field sensor but the fault caused in an associated area with no sensor. If that makes sense.
Great video Marty! Recently the headlight beam (not full beam) on my B8 A4 appears lower on the ground and makes it harder driving at night. Nothing showing on VCMS after scan and no warning lights on cluster. Any ideas?
Hi Philip, I had same issue on my A5 for about 9 months before it actually showed up as an error on dash or VCMS. My dipped beam was ver short range and I didn't get the little headlight aligment dance on start-up. I had raised my beam manually using the internal headlight adjuster, I think approx 3 full revolutions per side which solved the low beam in the short term. I also found that when I turned sharp right on a bend over 30mph that the drivers headlight beam would shoot up hugh and then very slowly drop back down again over approx half a mile. In hindsight I now know my headlight range sensor was sticking and either read low or high; but no error warning. When the error finally registered I replaced the sensor and screwed back the manual adjustment on the headlights 3 full revolutions; and as you can see in the video, the headlight beam was level with no need for further adjustment. Hope this helps.
Marty Babz Great stuff Marty thanks for response. Tried the VCMS today again, checked codes and live data and still nothing. Mate put the car on ramp and the headlight level sensor arm was broken. Only one on a B8 A4 it seems and it’s on passenger side rear. Gonna order a replacement from eBay. When you replace the sensor is there anything else needs done on the VCMS or should it just be a matter of replacement?
Should be a straight replace, it's only a sender for load height signal. Incidently my one on the rear was broken as well, so I simply fixed the arm by drilling an 1/8" hole through from plastic ball and fixing an obo nail in with JB Cold weld. It still works a year later. Also, I don't know what year your A4 is; but I thought they had a front sensor as well, I've changed them before.
There only is one sensor that controls the levelling if both headlights, unless you are referring to the load adjustment sensor on the rear axle?? My headlights didn't correct themselves on startup to balance at the road level beam, so it was a straightforward indication that it was the front sensor. Hope that helps.
The video contains the common range control arm fault. There is a second one on the rear axle, not as common but is known to sieze and brake the arm. Or finally the wires inside the headlight can break at the joints, but difficult to repair. Have you checked the vcms fault code?
