Audi A7 vs Mercedes CLS vs BMW 6GT review - which is the best? 

My heart says A7 but my bank account says Suzuki Ignis 🙆🏻‍♂

The 6GT (and its predecessor 5GT) is such a great car! At first it looks a bit weird and it took some time for me to understand the concept. It combines the presence of an SUV (just look how wide and massive it is!) And the luxury and sleekness of a sedan or coupe. Plus, it is somehow like a "secret 7 series touring", since the car is based on the 7, but much more practical and less expensive 🤫 Love it!

I am a big fan of BMW... but design and quality A7 is absolutely georgious. Would like to say... Audi A7 is my new car.

For me, the design of Audi A7 is one of the best in automotive history. It’s so sleek and sophisticated.

I hate that an exclusive car like the CLS has the same design that the A class (The cheapest mercedes). I cant understand this.

The Audi A7 is definitely the best but that red colour doesn’t do the design justice. Stunning car overall though.

I swapped myX5 with a 6GT . The best car ever. It is a SUV , sport coupe and a super luxury saloon at the same time.

I've driven around 6k in the 6 Series GT and it's grown on me more than any other car. I've grown to love it. Big, sporty, luxurious and surprisingly fun when pressing on - regardless of what the reviewer says.

The worst thing about Merc is the fact that it looks almost the same as the A-class from the front.. Besides the size of course but still paying that much for a car, for me it just has to be distinctive :P

Drove the A7 the other day, extremely good looking on the inside and out. The US engines are quiet and plenty fast. The touch screen requires a solid press to active and has a good click it almost feels like real buttons behind a glass panel. Some plastic parts bother me and the driver assistance radar look odd but they are much more advanced then the out going models. Getting to test a new A8 and Q8 later this week and the new A6 after that. It’s a perfect time to be a audi fan

Matt, your review of the 6GT made me fall in love with it and you almost put me off of it at the beginning of this one. Agree with you that customers of the Benz and Audi are people who want a cooler looking sedan or more like they want a coupe’ luxury GT where they don’t have to get out and move the front seats every time someone needs to get in and out of the back. The 6GC served those customers too but, the 6GT is a different game. I am more interested in a car that has a rear seat closer to that of a 7 series but, don’t care about the front since a driver would be behind the wheel so why pay 7 series money since a lot of it goes for the front of the cabin. Also, I want the practicality and size of the 6GT... it’s more practical and usable than a 7 and 5 to carry people and luggage and isn’t massive like an X7. Totally different catering than the CLS and A7 in my opinion. Glad you featured it again though, it’s growing more on me as the best choice for what I want. Thanks for all your content even if I think it’s a mismatch, it’s still good content.

I'm a BMW fanboy but I love the Audi A7. It's the only Audi I like though. As for the CLS? I think I'm the only person in the world who thinks it looks hideous

All great cars, but I chose the BMW and specified X-Drive, full air suspension and M Sport braking system....it is a fast and the most practical car with a proper hatchback, hence why I downsized from a 7 series.

CLS for sure

As an owner of a CLS350D 4matic (and ex of a 320D) I would say that I wouldn’t change it for the Audi or BMW. My CLS is classy, beautiful and I drove it on curves so fast that others would say wow 10 times. It is a sports coupe of another level!

The GT is the best among these 3 wonderful cars! It has more interior space and comfort than the others! Not to mention the luggage space

I love my BMW 640t GT. The looks have grown on me, and it is 20k cheaper than an 840i which has identical performance and looks similar in the real world. I used to like Mercedes but hate the curvy interiors of the current crop.

For sure to each their own but.... i just cant see someone choosing the bmw over THIS gorgeous Audi.

I have personally been driving a 6 Series GT for a year. I bought it because my family was growing and I have to say that it is the best car I have ever owned for everyday use. It offers enough space in the front and back. Whether it was an Audi, VW or Seat, we always had problems storing the stroller and luggage in the trunk, but that problem is now a thing of the past. And the 3.0 liter diesel is enough for a family that likes to go faster.

I actually like the design elements of the 6 more than the 5 series. The front lights and kidneys for example. It’s just that it’s a van thing. If it was a coupe with a hatchback like the a7 it would have been great.

I love the BMW6 GT.....ive been looking at the 5 GT which has a TWO part boot lid... one part opens the lower section for normal stowage of luggage BUT also you can open up the entire hatch for mass stowage of your bigger items.... However I didn't see the same type of two part hatch lid on this 6 GT....DID you not show it or has bmw not added the very handy hatch lid.... dam it was such an attractive thing about the Grand Tour Model

Just my personal opinion: you should also always compare or mention the sound system. For me, and I know I'm not the only one, the sound system is very important as well

I prefer the 6GT, it’s a shame BMW UK didn’t bring us the facelifted version you can still get in other RHD markets and the rest of Europe D’oh !!! The best car BMW makes 🚙👍🏻

For me, I prefer the CLS, although the Audi is nice. The BMW - forget it! I always get the impression that Mercedes is a level above both Audi and BMW!

Beemer looks far better in real life, has a HUGE interior and interior is much nicer irl too (idrive + nice mi of physical buttons and touch screen). Touch screen only systems will soon be abandoned as they're rubbish in cars

The bmw feels more like an alternative to the touring than a competitor to the CLS. That’s what the 8 GT will be for. I see the 6 all the time in Germany and it’s driven by people you’d normally see with a station wagon. I guess that’s what it is more or less, and not a flashy coupe. Still... that goddamn interior couldn’t have been more dull.

I think Mat got it wrong. This segment is about show off and the CLS is the best. If you need a practical car then compare the E-class T model with 5 touring and A6 Avant.

I'm still not a fan of touch controls on dashboards; It's the worst while driving and it gets all messy. In my opinion it also feels really cheap.

It annoys me when reviewers compare aspects of a car that is irrelevant to the true mission of a car. The critical comments of the rear seat rooms of the A7 and CLS, and comparing them unfavorably to the 6GT is just nonsensical. The A7 and CLS are NOT meant to be true people carriers. You want/need that in a car, then get an A6/E-Class or the equivalent SUV. . The 6GT is, in fact, meant to be a more spacious people and cargo carrier than its 5 Series sedan counterpart. The TRUE BMW competitor to the A7 and CLS is the 6 Series Gran Coupe. However, it's being replaced by the 8 Series GC which means it's not priced higher than either of the others. Neither Audi nor Mercedes really has a true competitor to the 6GT (thankfully since it's a nonsensical car). Why would someone choose a 6GT when an X4 or X6 makes sense (as is the GLC and GLE Coupes). I guess the bottom line here is that the 6GT shouldn't have been in this comparison.

I ended up getting the A7 last week! Loving it!!

I really wish cars are reviewed based on the most popular models, not with air suspension and majority of optional extras. After this review I am none the wiser as to how well the cars will ride with a standard set up. Considering the audi has huge alloys and sport suspension as standard

A Japanese test drive TV program reported the A7 sportback is very bumpy on a slightly bumpy paved roads and that it doesn’t seem to have a good body strength compared with the predecessor. Is it true? The test driver also said the interior trim in the front looks plasticy unlike Audi’s usual practice. TT that I had 15 years ago used real aluminum for all such shiny parts.
