Audi Q5 Lowering Springs Subframe Brace DIY

Here we lower my 2013 Audi Q5 B8 8R. It had OEM non-sport springs and we install JHMs lowering springs with OEM shocks. While in there I threw in a billet subframe brace for fun. The results are amazing aesthetically and performance wise. It also rides just as comfortable from before, so much that my wife didnt notice any decrease in comfort.

For the rear, those 2 subframe bolts are one-time-use TTY bolts, and you should replace them for safety. A few dollars is cheap insurance considering how critical these bolts are--it only takes one failed subframe bolt to ruin your day. On the fronts, unless you're replacing the part as you've done, leave the lower pinch bolts in place and instead remove the upper arms and swing them out of the way. On the strut pinch bolt, spend a couple bucks to get a proper spreader tool so you don't risk cracking the strut mount. Otherwise, thanks for your vid.

Thank you for the reply. You are correct, those rear subframe bolts are TTY, but would have added 200 dollars to the project. As mentioned in the video, I've gone against the FSM on many subframe bolts without negative results. The FSM also states to replace any control arm bolts that are removed. Which I and many others havent either. Good tip on the fronts, that is definitely another option to avoid the pinch bolt if needed.

How’s the ride quality with the jhms? I really want to drop mine but I drive quite a bit and don’t want to sacrifice the comfort.

It feels like OEM. This is my wife's car, and if it increased any harshness I wouldn't hear the end of it. She didn't notice a change in comfort, and neither did I. A great cost effective solution for lowering it.

It has been about 15,000km since the installation and not one concern. The OEM struts that have now about 165,000km havent blown either, and it remains as comfortable to drive as before.

What happened to the other two 2.7T builds?

Stalled pretty hard with other project... like this. We owe it to the channel to complete them... there isn't much left for the stk. Perhaps an update over the holidays.

We’ve actually got a bunch of updates in the pipe for both those cars. A long time coming but hopefully worthwhile.

Learned a lot from you guys and really appreciate it. Have just got my re-surfaced 2.8l heads and BF block from machine shop so itching to get it back together.
