Thanks for letting me realize that although easy, I’m not equipped or experienced so my tech will get paid to do this one😹🏁

Excellent video. How often should the fuel filter be changed?

My q5 has an issue where on a random morning it just wont restart. could the fuel filter be letting in air? because after i use vcds to run the fuel pump it does start back up.

Glad I found you! '14 Q5 TDI with 150k miles. Replacing the fuel pump now (and have the VDCS). Replaced the upper control arms last night and will tackle the lowers next week. Any chance you know if there is adequate clearance to replace the accessory belt w/o having to remove the electric fans or other parts for clearance? Thanks

Note - unless the dealer replaced this at 37k miles, I'm still on the original fuel filter at 150k miles. Knock on wood, no issues that I'm aware of.

I didn't see you pinch the fuel line from the tank to stop the flow while the fuel filter is disconnected. Is this not necessary?

Cory, great video. Question? I don't have the access to a VCDS, I have read that I can prime the system by toggling the start button 3 or 4 times without actually starting the engine. Thoughts?

You need the pump to run sustained for 30+ seconds. The key cycling won't run the pump enough to do this. With the money you'll save doing ONE fuel filter yourself you could afford a VCDS - or even a VAG-II tool which I believe has the feature!

@@idparts can I use OBDELEVEN to get this task done? Thanks

Wont the fuel system prime when you switch the ignition on? (without starting the engine) ?
@idparts
@idparts 9 месяцев назад
No actually some models won’t do this! The VW/Audi TDIs won’t run the fuel pump long enough for this to occur. When the key is turned it only runs for a split second to get pressure back up.

You don't need a computer to prime the tank. It's a self priming system. Just switch the ignition on for a couple of minutes whilst you do the covers up, and then start the engine.

Not according to a very great many chat forums. Most people say it needs priming to avoid pressure from damaging lines.
@CosmicPrawny

@@miipaI've done loads of them. Never had to prime and never had a come back.
@idparts

Some vehicles *DO* self prime, but this is not one of them. If you turn on the ignition the pump in the tank only runs for a split-second, it will not run continuously.

Lmao so the obvious point when no fuel is in the mechanical pump which is libricated by constant diesel (because the the fuel takes ATLEAST a solid 15-20 seconds to saturate a new filter) is the problem. It’s can cause metal shavings and ruin both fuel pump since it’s a fuel loop. Good for you on having a job tho!

Great video… Question… do I have to use the computer to prime the fuel filter? Could I just do the replacement and just turn on the car normally like the old cars? If not could you tell me why? Thank you very much
@CosmicPrawny

No need to use a computer

would pre-filling the new filter with fuel suffice and avoid the need for VCDS?
