Audi Quattro S1 E2 Pikes Peak // 900Hp Group B Monster - Onboard & Fly-By

David Rowe and his company EPS Motorsport, built and raced this incredible Audi Quattro S1 E2 on this year´s edition of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Named "Ray", as an hommage to David´s brother, this Group B replica, uses a 2.5 Turbocharged 5 cylinder engine from an Audi TT RS, tuned up to around 800Hp and uses also Nitrous Oxide to achieve oeaks of powers in the region of 900Hp.
Weighing around 1000Kg, this machine had the misfortune of suffering of some problems on Race day that made it lost more than 2 minutes.
We leave on the video a compilation of some of its best moments on the Colorado mountain and all sectors of Pikes Peak stitched together as in a perfect run, without any problems. Taht will give the viewer a proper chance to evaluate how quick this #HillclimbMonster could have been.

I don't care who is driving, they still have balls that we don't have. Great footage showing how it's done. They are not the Group B guys we remember, but they are keeping the memory alive for us all. The point is that they will never be as quick as the guns, but these guys are saving the memory. Remember that.

I've seen Walter Röhrl win the Pikes Peak in 1901 with the Locomobile steam car. He set a new record of under 11 hours, it was amazing!

Colman Baldwinson there's probably two possible reasons. one is the engine was modified with low end torque in mind so reving past 6k is useless. or driver hasnt had much practice keeping all 4 wheels loaded with that 1000hp. basically he could floor it but risking oversteering and traction lost.

Car was tuned to have its power band all on lower revs. No more than 6.500Rpm are needed to explore all the car´s power. Pikes Peak is all about having available power right outside the haipins in the upper section where as you explore higher RPM´s the engines suffer even more because of the lack of oxygen.

Next year it will be possible to enjoy the i5 screaming all the way. The NOS system is supposed to work exactly on the higher range of RPM´s and it´s what was failing on the car this year. Next year we will probably hear it at full chat and with even more power available ;)

Don’t need to with this engine - it’s a more modern five cylinder from a TT RS. Modern engines don’t need to be screamed - besides - this tops out at around 6000 rpm so thrashing it won’t gain anything.

I don't know how many were built, or how the owner got hold of this, however I'd assume it's 1 of 1 audi museum example, worth $3 million, and power capped at 300bhp.

At a so extensive build Engine a rev gain to ~8k should be considered! Otherwise 1300 Nm would be needed to generate 900 hp at 6800 U/min. (P = M * n * Pi / 30000)

Josef Mangan Maybe he doesn't want to overpower the diff & crash horribly. I think making it to the top as fast as possible is a little more important than hitting the redline.. Also, maybe the torque is all in the middle so redline doesn't help at all.

This engine is not at full capacity. The choice of gear ratios is almost but not quite right. That engine should be screaming: it doesn't. Look at Niki Zlatos,s Prospeed UR quattro, you'll see what I mean.

You can tell who read the description and who just runs their mouth in the comments...probably had a high rpm misfire they couldn't get rid of. Never takes it above 5k rpm. But you could see in the dash it redlines at 8k. Putting that much money in just to show up usually means you're driving a broken car and working with what you got to fulfill your sponsorship contingencies. I've had to do that twice now for rallycross.

now its Audi quattro on new Hill Climb ( asphalt since 2012 )...not sure Audi is competitv than other news car....( unlimited/electric etc )....Quattro is like DTM car on pike peaks...why not BMW / AUDI / Mercedenz DTM...??..Aud R5 DTM version Pike peaks ...................but 208 t16 is not a GT car special hight speed...........!!!!

Read the full details. The car was having some issues with the nitrous system at high revs so giving it the full beans wasn't possible. I guess they were worried about damaging something so the driver took it a bit easy.

He is good but need more practice ! Or join rally school to gain more driving and control experience and techniques ! .... must compete the time or with other word must keep the speed as high as possible ! Don't listen to engine rores ! See how fast you are !! I believe the engine or exehaust is too noisy for a rally car ! Which give / illusion some pilots / drivers that they are so fast ! But in reality they are not !
