In the 1930s, Audi's ancestor Auto Union was dominating Grand Prix racing with its Silver Arrow race cars and also began planning a street-legal version powered by the same 16-cylinder engine. The vehicle, called the Type 52, never materialized, but now Audi has built the car from scratch based on historical documents.

So you’re telling me that Audi cooked up a hypercar about 50 to 60 years before they actually became a thing but Audi knew the world wasn’t ready for it back then so they just patiently waited to unveil this astonishing vehicular contraption… cool

Besides, the name "Silver arrow" was used mostly for Mercedes race cars. Never heard it used for Audi.

@jokervienna6433 back in the day you had to race with your countries color. In Germanys case silver. And since they were funded by an Austrian art student they were fast. Hence the silver arrows

That fuel mix is potent, runs cooler than gasoline alone. On reflection though, my 1958 DKW 3=6 was quite sufficient, don't need a super car. Too bad rust takes out so many good designs from back in the day.

@@devilslayerthesaintofkille1317 Not exactly a rip off. Rear engines, backbone chassis, and independent suspension had all been invented by others earlier,but Tatra was the first to aggressively file patents. There was certainly a violation of a patent, but the patent itself was unusually wide.
