Wish ppl would test the 0-60 without revving and launching it like who sits at the lights revving for take off. Be more interesting to see what these cars can do from a dig just stomping on the pedal and going.
Ohhhh spicy. Loving the recent content. Would you consider a longer discussion about the car industry at the moment. It seems like it’s heating up? BMW especially…
Thank you Joe and Andy for this video. I wasn't expecting the RS3 to perform this well. But then again I believe if it was between the M235i Gran Coupe and the RS3 Limousine, the RS3 will take the day anyway. The B58 has so much tuning potential but so does the RS3. I really wouldn't have known about the excellent suspension setup in the RS3 if I hadn't watched your video Joe!
Great review Joe as always. I appreciate they aren’t a like for like in terms of RS vs M Lite but not sure I can forgive Audi with the slide in interior quality for a ~£60k car. If it had the same interior quality as the previous generation then I think the extra cash would be worth it but personally I’d save £10k and go for the BMW
Interesting review. Like you, Whatcar mag preferred the RS3, but Car Magazine went for the M240i, declaring it the more engaging car! Either way, both great cars.
Interestingly Car Magazine actually much preferred the steering on the M240i and sound of the B58 over the Audi. As an M240i owner I choose to believe Car Magazine. 😅
The funny fact is that we can argue about which we prefer between an Audi RS and a Bmw 'lite-M', but imagining the opposite (real M vs Audi S, M2 vs S3 for example) is fun just to say. This shows the level of competition between Audi and Bmw.
@@KUDANTOURAGE rubbish. It’s comparisons are the cars in its same category and price range. What they’re fetching in this era is due to shortages and demand.
Brilliant thorough and honest vid as ever, Joe. As a real fan of the brand, it would be very easy for you just to say you like the BMW best. I’ve considered both and have gone for the M240i (on order) for the following reasons. An equivalent spec RS3 is as you say £10k more, the interior material quality is as you say a bit low rent and I think the RS is more likely to attract the wrong sort of attention. In addition I don’t want a hardcore car more what I’d describe as an enthusiast’s luxury car- I therefore think the BMW is the best car for me. But ultimately they’re both great cars and we should celebrate that their respective manufacturers have seen fit to build them. We’re all different and we all like different things. Let’s enjoy watching, reading and debating about them while we all can. 2030 is not far away..
Honest question, why not go for a previous gen m240i? Same engine, same transmission, adaptive suspension, lighter and a better looking car. Not to mention way cheaper
@@marked_one Various reasons although mainly because it’s not a daily I plan to keep it for a long time so want the latest model with the best tech, new 3-series style curved screen etc. in it so it’s as future proof as possible
Superb video Joe! Not driven the M240i but I can wholeheartedly agree with everything that you said about the RS3! It’s worlds apart from the previous generation that I had although I’d definitely rather have the very dated but brilliantly put together interior out of that car. I think the new M2 is going to be brilliant if this M240i is anything to go by Great work 🍻
Personally I’d take the 240 , in my opinion the b58 is the better engine with the more potential for tuning , rs3 is a great car but I think overpriced.
Thanks Joe, as usual excellent content. I have been researching for some time on whether I buy the m240i or the new RS3. I recently pulled the trigger and have ordered the RS3 - 12 month wait though. Your feedback from previous videos and this on helped shape my decision. Ultimately the better sound, handling and practicality of 4 doors has made me go with the Audi. For me, the way the car makes you feel is paramount - and the sound is a huge part of that. I am located in Australia. Thanks again and keep up the great work - love your videos.
Continuing to churn out the best content Joe, congrats buddy, for me you're up there now with Shmee and Cars With Luke on content and picture\audio quality, keep up the great work.
Same! There's a few in the business that just bring unbiased quality reviews and many hours of entertainment. Yourself and volkswizard are definitely up there with Nick
This video says "4k" in the title but for me there is only a 1080p option. Anyone else have this? Or is there something wrong on my end? In any case, great video again Joe, very nice and complete comparison. This is exactly the content why I like this channel so much. Had the chance to drive the M240i recently as a loaner because my car was in the shop. It is a fantastic machine, really fun to drive, an animal when you push it but really subdued at the same time when you want it to. It goes around corners like a go-cart. It pained me having to give it back when my car was fixed. Might have to get one as my next car. Thanks for the video!
Videos on RU-vid first upload on the lower qualities and will introduce the higher qualities later on. After a couple of minutes most quality options will be available, but it’s common to have to wait an hour or two for 4K to be available
I’m thinking of selling my AMG and going for the m240i. I went to my local BMW dealer to see it in person and it looks absolutely powerful and mighty even though it was only a 220i. The M240i looks even more beastly.
M240 with a set of Ohlins or similar could be the sweet spot. I have Birds Bilstein dampers on my m140 and it's amazing how much of a difference an upgraded suspension set up can make.
Great review as always! You mentioned you’d be interested in an RS3 if prices weren’t so high; do you mean instead of your M3? A comparison of the two would be interesting.
I love the m240i. Looks great. The b58 is an amazing engine as well. All I would say is that, having just sold my m340i, you might get 40mpg on a run, but it’s pretty thirsty on short runs, to say the least. It’s great fun, though, but be ready to frequently see £100+ on a full tank of fuel for the b58.
“If you’re hammering it … “. I wasn’t always hammering it but then I never saw the point of driving it slowly, nor of eco mode. My view was always that If it’s worth owning them I’m going to enjoy it. After 18 months I had enjoyed and downsized to a 135i. Remains to be seen how that goes. It’s plenty quick enough for me though.
The fuck yall get 30mpg im like 15 or 19 but not gonna lie..i floor it everywhere..and i only live in sport plus mode..even though there is a sport Individual..which i find it slower in ish ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BajqvaOnDzg.html
Great review! I very much enjoyed the video! It's actually a rather surprising result as I have just read a comparison test done by Car Magazine arriving at the exact opposite conclusion. Super interesting that different journalists would rate the same cars so differently. I would naturally assumed that RS3 would be a more engaging car than a M240i. Can't wait for M2 though!
Great review Joe as a owner of a new m240i I agree it’s a great daily car. The balance of performance and comfort is fantastic. I came from a Merc A45 which my wife did not like. Like most people I think the steering is lifeless and the brake pedal soft.
Joe I’m just reading through your subscribers comments. Great comments, all valid points which is great seeing the passion and knowledge. Another well received video of yours buddy, great work Joe 👌so much better than chauffeuring. 🙏👍
After driving both the m240i was it for me. 10K less, no difference in Performance, More Special Look and an Interior a Level above rs3. Honestly Interior of the Audi is a real dealbreaker. 82K Price in Euro and Look and Feel of a VW Polo inside…
But honestly everyone says the suspension, handling, engine sound, and steering feel are all better in the RS3! I'm a BMW guy, and imo your getting the better driver's car in the RS3, but it cost more of course!
@@germanengineering204 I disagree with Suspension and Engine Sound. But Yeah RS3 is better handling and mutch more „hardcore“. But as I said: Coming into that cabine killed my vibe for the Car every fuckin time. 😁🙈
@@IngmarStadelmann According to this review! He mentioned that the ride quality whether in sport or comfort mode is exceptional, and is on par with the M5 CS did you miss that?
Great review, thank you! I am a happy owner of a fully specd RS3 Y hatch back since January. And as an old petrol head who owned too many cars I can only share your excitement about the RS3 suspension. I never experienced a car which could do the comfortable cruiser to mountain/backcountry road racer stretch as brilliantly as the compact Audi does. It has to be experienced to be believed. I actually prefer to drive it over my 991.2 convertible.
Hi Joe love and greetings from Toronto Canada u did such a nice comparison test although it wasn't proper test bcoz one is proper RS model and other is M lite model actually u mentioned that too but u have ur own unique way of doing which I like most u never let us down although these days u r not making many videos but whenever u do u do excellent work I can't understand why u r getting more subscribers u deserve it mate
Great video although I wish you would measure 1-100 mph, or ideally standing quarter mile with trap speed. The latter will tell you so much more than these blink-of an-eye 0-60 times which are all about traction and the transmission.
One thing I've noticed that the brakes on the bmw's I've had are shite. I had an M140i and now have an M340i and the brakes are awful. Just don't have the stopping power. They're really mushy and take ages to stop the car rather than biting and being sharp
It's such a shame that BMW are putting the hideous looking iDrive 8 in the M240i from July builds onwards. I'm seriously considering cancelling my order (placed in March) as it won't be built until late this year or even early 2023. IDrive 7 dashboard looks far better in my opinion. Great content as always 👍
I ordered mine two months ago and it just went into production yesterday as a 22’ model (vin verified). 23’s won’t arrive til end of Fall at the soonest per my dealer (biggest bmw dealer in California). I’m not sure where you live but that’s my experience.
@@Bimmer_Bill I ordered almost 3 months ago at a UK dealer and they advised at least a 10 month wait at that point. My order also hasn't gone into production as yet, so it's highly likely I'd end up with a MY23 unfortunately. Dealer has said they cannot confirm either way until it reaches the next step.
I'd love to have either lol....I feel this RS3 is one of the best looking cars ever made. Taking into account the markups where I live and everything else, I'd take the M240i I do despise the new 'truck' looking 2 series though). B58 is such a modern marvel and the aftermarket for it is insane. Great content, would be blessed to own either of these gorgeous machines.
Awesome vid fella, loving both these cars right now. Shame the M240i doesn’t have better steering feel I agree but what a car for the money in this modern day.
So many people hate on the M240i styling and I don’t hear much hate for the RS3. The RS3 looks like an econobox with a gaping mouth and an underbite. I think the M240i looks good.
Of course Joe, you said the steering feel is a little bit numb in the Bimmer, but you are sitting on the wrong side of the car. It's a German car and it's supposed to be sitting on the left side of the car. Again, a nice comparison video.
Bearing in mind the BMW is almost 10k cheaper i wonder what performance mods could be added to bring up that 370hp. Id imagine fully spec the m240i add a few suspension mods and a remap and it would make an amazing rival for the RS3 and all within the base price of a RS3
Stage 2 bootmod since it already has the upgraded hpfp will give nearly 500bhp. Stage 2 audi RS3 will be slightly less. Once you throw hybrid turbos on them both (cars) and E85/Meth etc they can both make over 700bhp easily.
Interesting you say the RS3 has good steering feel as opposed to other reviews I’ve seen. Seems like the RS3 sounds better from the drivers seat but I do like the glorious straight 6 sound from the outside. How do they compare in rolling acceleration test?
Excellent review Joe & Andy. Very balanced call. As previously mentioned you were fair to both car manufacturers. Having recently taken delivery of an Audi A3 Vorsprung totally agree Audi cost cutting on interior quality and although my car is the very average engine to have the same trim effectively in R/S is not acceptable. BMW have a much higher quality interior but the petrol engine range was not as good in my opinion. Looking forward to the next video👍🏻
I've got an RS3 on order right now. I'll be trading in my M2 Comp for it. The M2 was my first bimmer after owning 3 Audis, and although it's a fun car, I don't think I'll be purchasing any more BMWs. I've never had a single problem with any of my Audis, but I've had several with the M2 and it doesn't even have 20k miles yet. They were all covered under warranty, but still, who needs that pain in the ass with a new 70k car? So I'm anxious to go back to Audi. Plus, the B&O stereo will be GREAT to have again. The HK system in the M2 sucks frankly.
Wait, you've got an M240i for 3 months and you've not mentioned the best feature? You now have identical machinery to Pete and Dan (Petrolhead Tours fame) for the next time you meet them on the road! Definitely the cars best selling point IMHO ... Will be interesting to find out whether it's any harder on its tyres on tour vs the M2 Comp's. The weight and softer setup might play a part in eating through tyres a dab quicker
The M240 definitely can't compare in chassis and brakes but that's also why the M2 exists. Considering G87 M2 is basically all M4 parts and a detuned S58 it'll be overbuilt for stock power.
In Germany the round stearing wheel is an option. I don't like the flat bottom steering wheel in the S3 or RS3 because the airbag and buttons are weird. And I wanted the adaptive cruise control which you can't get with the flat bottom steering wheel.
Hi Joe! Excellent video and review overr both car, I have test both car for some reason my heart went toward the rs3 but both are cracking motor. However after j done extensive research.. the bmw m240i has been dyno'd and was touching 400bhp. I assuming bmw has lied about the power figures. Would be interesting if you could dyno the m240i to see the true power figure.
Joe… another incredible video. My day gets better seeing you upload a new video. QUESTION: Can you justify the extra £££ for the G80 M3. A new M3 xDrive is slightly out of my price range, however a clean used one is. Do you think it’s worth stretching the budget and going for the M3. I know they are in different leagues but I feel there’s no one more qualified to answer this other than yourself. Cheers from down under 🇦🇺
I had an S3 from 2018 to 2021 and an RS3 from 2021 ubtil now. I just upgraded to a brand new M3 comp xdrive (118k € in Germany). As much as i love Audi and the 2.5 5-pot, the M3 is on a whole new level. 3.6 seems fast? I am clocking 3.2 with my M3. 100-200 km/h = 7,3 seconds. Go for the M3 mate 👍🏻
@@haviiithelegogunner907 that’s awesome. I currently have a 2020 Golf R 7.5. Love it such a great all rounder but my wife can have it, and then I’ll upgrade. Glad to hear you are loving the M3. Can’t wait to get one
joe looks like he would rather be driving a slower car with a manual transmission like there toyota gr corolla, honda civic type r, or manual volkswagon golf r.
I was 26 when I bought a brand new Z costing 50K in Canada, went in with my friend and honestly we looked 21, they asked us if we needed help right away and within 20 mins I paid cash and waited for my Z to arrive. I guess some dealerships judge people if they have money or not 🤷♂️ and we had regular jeans tees n hats on lol
Great video, but have you seen the new interior for the M240i? Gone are those nice controls and stick, hello touchscreen and cheap gear selector. It's not a surprise all the press demo cars have the old one...
This has been killing me trying to figure this out - how do you specifically get the seats shown in the M240i in this video? I know you can spec the blue contrast stitching, but how do you spec the M logo up by the headrest? Is this only available outside the U.S? Does it automatically come with the shadowline or premium package?
Still can’t believe that Audi doesn’t offer the flat bottom alcantara steering wheel with the colored details in UK like they do in mainland Europe… would definitely help that interior.
I had a prior generation RS3 and now I have an M340i. Not much difference in speed, but the M240i is a much more planted car through corners. The RWD platform is way better.
Could someone tell me how the driving experience of S3 compare to the RS3? Audis are not known to be the most engaging of cars, is RS3 just a rare exception?
Hi Joe. Thx for this video. I have done some research... No luck so far. What would be the extra money per year if owning a m240 compared to 220i? Let's say for an average 10k miles per year. I am doing very little spirited driving. Greetings from France.
I cant express how much i love most of bmws new lineup.. i use to hate the m2. It always looked like a copy of an m3 and its smaller little brother. But now its a new deisgn and separated it from the rest of the lineup
