Missed a couple of things there.. you don't need to plaster the back of the pad like that, just where the pad sits in the carrier.. and the slider bolts always need pulling out to regrease so they don't seize

Really helpful cheers. Wasn't changing pads but wanted to clean up and paint calipers.

If you want to remove the disks on the MK2, you have to remove or at least loosen (remove one bolt and loosen the other) the carrier bracket also. It is attached with two M14 triple splined or triple square bolts. You can get a bit for your ratchet wrench at local auto parts store.

You should give a warning about wearing a face mask with filter (respirator) when blowing brake dust into the air as asbestos causes several lung ailments....but then "you probably shouldn't be doing this if you didn't know that". Great video!

Daniel Gaskell I don’t think brake pads have had asbestos in them for many years but exposure to any dust should be minimized

Asbestos hasn't been used in pads for a very long time.

Great video, gave me some tips, I presume the same process for a Mk1 TT....also I am replacing the discs all round, all that would be extra to do would be to remove the caliper mounting bracket (couple of bolts?) and the small screw?

I think there's small part of the pad friction material that you didn't cover in copper grease. Will it still work?

Good article, many thanks. Any surprises in changing the disks on these?
@diycarmaintenanceandrepair3764
Smiler & Dee Pacey No surprises, all procedure as shown in the video.

How tight are the carrier bolts meant to be?

What's the best way to jack up the TT? There only appears to be cut outs on the sills for the scissor jack that comes in the boot! Thanks

No sensors to worry about? Is there any difference in installing the fronts?

Appreciate your video. I attempting to do this today but the wind back tool isn't oushibg the piston back in at all . I'm so confused. I've changed brake pads on numerous cars never had this issue. Hand brake down . brake reservoir cap was off. But that thing just wouldn't push back . its an oudi TT RS mk2. Any suggestions

Fantastic tutorial! Do the US spec TT MK2 caliper bolts have 13mm and pins 15mm?
@bobg3394
@bobg3394 3 года назад
My US Spec TT MK2 has 13mm and 15mm bolts like the video. The 15mm is a little thin - if you have a wide wrench it may not work properly.

Great Article. A question please - I want to buy one of the piston rewind tools but see 'left handed' and 'right handed' ones advertised. Which one do I need for my Audi, and does the same tool do both sides. cheers
@zipz8423
@zipz8423 6 лет назад
I know this was posted years ago, but for others you just need a double ended tool that can do both.
@bobg3394

286mm I believe. Look up the specs on a website called 7zap, or the Brembo Parts shop.

Been trying to remove the rear disc on my mark2, but I just cannot get onto the top carrier torx bolt. Any ideas?
@bobg3394
@bobg3394 3 года назад
It is not a torx bolt, it is an m14 triple splined or triple square bit. I was able to remove the lower bolt and just loosen the upper to get enough space to remove the disk. Makes it so you don't have to align things again to get the carrier back on if you remove it completely. I was able to get onto the bolt with the M14 bit on my ratchet wrench.

Fuck ya I just worked on my 05 TT I wish I would have saw the tool but I did it with a vise and clamp
@bobg3394
@bobg3394 3 года назад
That works for the fronts, but the rears on the MK2 appear to need to have the piston actually screwed down with the screw tool.

I'd rather use brake cleaner than air to clean brake dust meself like!!!!!
