Just picked up my 2017 TT and this video was exactly what I was looking for as the salesman basically just waffled when I asked about the differences. Thanks 👍🏽
Fun fact: Quattro is fully 'turned off' in efficiency mode, and only turns on when it senses slipping wheels. In the other modes, it always sends a small amount of power to the rear wheels.
You're 100% correct 👌🏾 although I did go flying around a corner the other day and the back end slipped out - I was greeted by a ton of oversteer courtesy of the Quattro system 😂
I got almost the exact same car and had it for a few months now! Just got the brake callipers red.. really goes with the all black.. highly recommend it mate
Well done not going to getting explained any better then that 👍 I searched utube for ages and 1 topic I couldn't see coverd,, i took delivery of mine 2 weeks ago pretty impressed with it nice car to drive, and thanks again much appreciated for that I'll have a go on my settings tomorow,, i think a good one for a future video would be options what you can have installed with 3rd party companies such as maps or rear view cameras, android phones ect.. ,, maybe be good for your channel to link to them companies bet would get you a hell of a lot of followers👌
This is Jim again. I just watched your discussion on the drive modes. You never mentioned S or Sport. Is that not available in the uk? I can choose all the options that you showed and I generally run it in dynamic all the time because that gives me the best steering, shifting, sound, and overall responsiveness of the car, but that does not keep the RPM up high. When I tap the shift lever back and it goes to Sport it jumps about a thousand RPM and then everything gets super sharp and responsive. Coming into corners it down shifts just the way I would do on a manual transmission and then as I come through the corner and accelerate out once I get up to a speed I want I just tap it back again and it goes into D or drive and the RPMs come back down. So it's just like a manual downshift into a corner accelerating out through the gears and then going into overdrive for casual cruising. So listening to you and watching your videos it appears that the Sport mode is not available to you. Is this true? If any of you are buying a US model then this will all make sense as I drive in D or Drive most of the time. That is not efficiency or comfort as I always leave it in dynamic mode. When I want more performance I tap the shift lever back and it transitions to Sport Mode. I leave it in sport mode just for the performance that I want and then tap it again and it goes back into drive and the RPMs and the shift points go back to normal Drive settings . I hope this all makes sense. The difference between driving in D or S for sport is a big change. Sport mode is the place you want to be if you want to really enjoy the car. Obviously the revs are higher so then you want to get back into D for just your normal cruising. The throttle feels more flat at lower RPMs and lower throttle positions but then when you go to sport all that disappears and throttle response is instantaneous and right from the lowest revs it is sharp. Dynamic mode combined with sport is what really makes this car come alive. 😀
I just picked up a 2018 model and we do have sport. It is listed as dynamic as a car setting but that swaps the gears to S (sport). I have come to settle for selecting dynamic. Around town etc, have it in D and then on longer motorway journeys, I pull back on the shifter to pop it into S.
Yeah it's exactly what you'd expect, around town the steering is light, if you go round some tight corners or end up on the motorway it will stiffen up etc. etc.
I took delivery on a 2022 TTS Chronos Grey about a month ago. I always keep it in dynamic mode, I like the performance, the way it sounds ( after altering the exhaust) If I were to take a longer trip I’d probably try a different mode.
Great vlog James, I've just bought an Audi TT on a '64 plate, once you've selected the drive mode, how do you then get to the options for steering, gearbox, exhaust etc., etc.?
@@JamesCF10 Thanks James, but once I've selected individual drive mode, how do I get to the options? If I press the menu button/wheel it just takes me back to the main screen! I've tried all sorts.
I just got a 2015 TT sline, debadged in immac cond black edition and its awesome, 20 inch wheels fully optioned and its like a very low cost ferrari look alike, and its fast and fun, but fuel efficiency is bad, maybe due to heavy throttle use, love your vids James...
Nice video, but, a couple of things that are incorrect as a TT 2.0 STronic quattro owner : Effiency Mode: There is NO cylinder on demand technology. Also, you mention you think that there is a noticeable shift from coasting - this is incorrect - As this is a dual clutch gearbox, the next gear is already spinning and when it engages from coasting - it is seamless. Also you don't explain the AUTO mode. One thing that is correct is your broad smile when you put it in Dynamic mode, as you say - this is how the car is intended to be driven!
Thanks Harrison, maybe your car feels different to mine because whenever I use Eco I can feel the gears engage (which makes sense due to engine braking etc) although I am due a gearbox oil change so maybe things will feel a bit smoother when it’s done 👌🏾
One thing I did was to set the * button on the steering wheel to Drive Select. Which is great when I am at the lights and the car next to me is looking like he wants to have a go. Being able to change it to Dynamic without taking my left hand off the steering wheel makes all the difference for me. Just feels more safe and comfortable.
This is a great tip! I set mine to change from bluetooth to Radio - I don't know why but even if I turn off traffic announcements, every now and then they come back on and scare the shit out of me 😂😂
@@staggabob Yes it is. Which I only realised after I posted the above. As I only had my S-Tronic TT for a few months and not realised that sport mode is also dynamic mode. I do still prefer having the * button on modes though for switching between comfort/efficiency/dynamic. But yes when I now want to boot it suddenly, I just engage sport. Love my TT. It’s my second one and my first petrol. I expect I will have another for my next car before I switch. Hopefully a TTS next time though.
I have a remapped 15 reg S-Line Quattro. I have not noticed much difference tbh. Of course if you boot it everywhere it’s going to be much less fuel efficient after a map. But on average I still get around 300 miles from a full tank of Tesco Momentum 99. Which I would totally recommend over standard fuel as it’s better quality and reduces the chance of knocking.
I'm in the exact same boat as you Jason - the difference in economy is negligible, but the power jump is HUGE! I'm running the same fuel as you too - can't fault it
Individual just let's you choose between comfort & dynamic. Comfort is nearly always FWD and dynamic kicks a bit of the power towards the rear wheels when required
@@JamesCF10 But what does quattro in auto do? Will it constantly be distributing the power, or is it more like, if you drive sporty for a while, it will "set it" to dynamic in the background?
@@aguyfromdenmark Quattro is nearly always in some sort of 'auto' mode, it only kicks in when the car senses you losing grip, otherwise, even Quattro TTs are mostly FWD
Purchased a TT in Feb 21 and only just looked where the spare tyre normally goes!! I knew there was no spare tyre just the goo for a puncture, but there wasn't any jack either; is this normal? What breakdown equipment does come with the TT? Any photos of what is in the spare tyre compartment?
Do drive modes change the suspension? I’m looking for a more comfortable ride in bumpy Arizona. I’m thinking higher profile tires may be the way to go. Any thoughts?
It would change the suspension if you had an RS with magnetic suspension. Otherwise, it's just regular old suspension. Higher profile tires or upgraded springs may help you (obviously dont go for the sporty ones cos that'll make it worse
@@JamesCF10 thanks James! Makes sense. I’ve heard in the forums that koni yellows soften things up but others say they will actually stiffen up the suspension. Do you have any recommendations re springs w my goal in my mind of a softer landing?
@@paddycullen1 Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of suggestions. The forum guys are usually pretty hardcore so I'd follow their advice 👌🏾
I just bought a reg 15 black edition quattro and the lane assist isnt on even though I ticked the box to activate it and the cockpit isnt on either......Could you tell me why ? Is it because theres no data sd card in? Thanks
wondering if you could help me . i have a 2019 audi TT SLINE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ive heard android auto and apple car play come as standard however i cannot find any settings and i have no luck activating it or connecting it up. any suggestions or ideas ?
I have a question. When driving in Efficiency Mode, and you then push the gear nob to the side into Manual Mode. Is that manual mode less responsive than if it was in Dynamic manual mode? So my Question is directly relating to Manual mode differences in Efficiency and Dynamic mode. Are they the same?
That's a really good question! I believe if you put it into manual it automatically puts it into a sportier mode - I'll be in the car later so I'll let you know how it responds
As promised, I did try this last night. I put the car into efficiency mode, then swapped over to manual on the DSG and the power still felt reduced. The gear shift indicator was coming up lower down in the revs telling me to change gear too.
@@JamesCF10 I havent been able to figure it out my self. I normally drive around on efficiency mode while in back streets, then i come to a main road and put it into manual mode and give it an acceleration hit to merge into and over take traffic, I find this easier then scrolling four times into dynamic mode than manual. Anyways, i thought it felt less powerful, but i wasn't sure. I think in efficiency/ manual the computer sets things so they are in efficiency. What i do like about like about driving in efficieny mode is coasting in netraual, its perfect for back streets where you cant go to fast anyways and lets the car roll. And no other mode lets you coast, not even custom. Let me know if you figure out how to coast in any other mode.
Individual mode is nice too :) but I usually drive in dynamic mode S with auto stop/start off and traction half way off … because my stage 3+ A4 B9 loses traction at little over half throttle haha
@@JamesCF10 Did you made a tutorial for the honeycomb grill? I have a same car, and i want to buy the grill from Aliexpress. But i dont know if it fixes well, or if there is any adaptation to be made :/ .
@@antonycurry1263 I did indeed > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fWEVmXI6ljA.html Link to the part is in the description too. There's 2 types of grill, the TTRS one which gives you space to put 'QUATTRO' letters on the bottom, or the one I've got which is just a honeycomb grill. The TTRS one is harder to fit for sure
I have a 2016 tt s-line and do not have efficiency mode. I have comfort, dynamic, custom and auto. What the heck is efficiency mode? I’m in Canada so maybe different here in North America?
Loool it’s hilarious when someone points something out about yourself, and it’s not until they do that you notice. I just watched the video back and I can’t disagree with you one bit 😂 sincere apologies, I’ll try to correct that next time
Sold my TT 45TFSI Quattro just 4 months after buying it. Guys, if you want a fun car to drive you need rear wheel drive. Get an MX-5 or a Boxster/cayman. I've had all of them and to be honest the TT looks nice and has a great interior but it's dull to drive. Lift off oversteer is not a useful or fun dynamic.
