It is. Btw. google search partimento. That's how Baroque musicians learned and I'd bet some that this guy also had a gist of it. It primarily makes you a good player and improviser.
+TheSuperCommentGuy Partimento theory is just starting to be fully understood by modern musicologists. But improvising a fugue using partimento would come out much "thinner' than that of Bach since Partimento was a tool of the Neapolitan School of Music for teaching students and sending them out across Europe to mass produce music in the Galant style. As it was Italian in origin, the fugue would be much thinner than Bach.
@rasmoujin Well, of course; there were certain patterns of harmony that were quite common n Baroque music, and I can imagine that Bach's improvs would have had a similar sort of structure. I love the way this guy improvises... I want to learn how from him! :)
He only improvised a 5 part fugue. The king then challenged him to do 6 part, which he could not on the spot. He went home, wrote out the kings theme in 6 parts and sent it as a gift to the king. Can you site that newspaper article?
If you are referring to the King's theme in 'a musical offering', Bach improvised a 3 part fugue, but when challenged to improvise a 6 part fugue, he went home to Leipzig and composed a 6 part fugue and contrspuntal works based on the King's theme or to Bach's term 'Thema Regium', which literally means 'The Kings' Theme' despite the fact that there was only one King involved.
No, i think you didn't quite understand. I said "neigh impossible" because I knew Bach did it and I wanted to compliment him. For me personally... I still have a long way to go, just turning 18 and playing for 7 years
Johann Sebastian Bach Dear Sebastian, your majesty’s composer! I bow down to you. Give me a chance of your glance. Soon I will post a video of mine in your style of music, fantasy like improvisation. I will allow just for you to see it in such a way with an honest opinion, even if it’s so good at a certain level in my opinion, I will not listen to the other comments, just yours! All of my gratitude will be given out to you my master!
aaa ok...Fugue 2 voices or three... Bach could Improve 6 voices !!! well I think If you can improv a fugue you are great. 2 voices good. 3 voices great!!. more than 3...GOD
A Fugue needs atleast two voices, and also improvising Fugues with up to 4 voices is not too hard... speaking from experience. 6 is neigh impossible though...
