Yes, Job loved His kids. But God loved them to. However, those kids were sinful. They had no fear of God, nor love for their Father in their hearts. So, when Satan took them, it was their punishment. Not punishment on Job, but on his evil children. If the kids were righteous, God would have spared their lives. Remember, the only thing God refused to allow unto Satan was Job's life.
I respect your view, but I cannot stand by why people twist the meaning of this beautiful story away from it's original meaning. Let me ask you something: Many people claim that the Bible is not evidence for God, that it's propaganda. I disagree. If the Bible was propaganda, why would the authors include this story that most non-believers translate as evil and cruel?
FOR THE COMMENTS HIS DEAD KIDS AND ANIMALS JOBS THAT IS. "ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD" JOB NEVER OWN THOSE THINGS. THE LORD TESTED JOB PASSED THEN GAVE A GREATER INCREASE AND EXTEND HIS YRS ON EARTH AS WELL JOB. IT WAS Believed THAT JOB WAS OVER 700 YRS OLD WHEN HE DIED
And to be clear--that's fine. :) There's still value in the Bible (even as the atheist I am!) with it being a collection of stories...they're important stories...I think some are very good stories (the Psalms are a great example of early poetry, David's story anticipates figures like King Arthur and King Lear, great rulers who have trouble at home, Exodus has problems but has a good underdog story at the core of it) some are very bad--but all shape our culture and are worth knowing for that.
No. He did it to bless Job. This was a test. God was testing Job's faith. And Job passed. God gave him more kids and double the cattle he had before. Job was healed, and had perfect health the rest of his days. He lived a long, good life. AND, he learned no matter what Satan through at Him, God would always be in control of the situation.
Obviously, religion debates itself. I'm not trying to debate religion. From the mind of Abraham, we have the Jews, Muslims, Catholics and Protestants. And then Protestants break up into so many different denominations and even more non-denominations. So many different ways to interpret these beliefs. I'm don't believe my intelligence trumps others, I'm just giving my interpretation. Is yours worth more than mine?
You, my friend, would make an amazing Christian. But, I will not push you. I feel God is telling me that you have written a response that is pleasing to Him.
yeah, i see your point, everyone has his own view, and that dictates that there is only the reality your eyes decieve, my apology for this kinda harsh reaction, it wasnt my intention to step on your toes..
Because characterizing the Bible as either proof of God or as propaganda is equally incorrect (and a false dichotomy.) The Bible as we know it today was by no means a hard, set list of books...a lot of books were excluded, for various reasons, instead of those that were let in. In the end, the Bible is just an anthology--it's just stories, some which might be more historical than others...but the same way the Greeks wrote tales of gods they believed in that didn't exist, the same is true here.
I'll tell you, then--if that's God's idea of a "blessing," I'd just as soon he not bless me and leave me be. I agree with FourPie, if it were anyone but God, you'd agree that that was incredibly disgusting behavior on God's part, but because it's God, he gets a free pass. Now, I'm a Jew by birth and atheist by trade, and I'm happy not to worship such a (in my view) vindictive monster of a Big Brother God. If it makes you happy, by all means--just respect my views as well, to each their own.
By whose standards, you or God's? Do you claim to be more righteous then God? Have you lied? God has not. Have you lusted after anyone? God has not. Have you felt unrighteous anger against a person? God has not. Who are you to judge the God of this universe, you blasphemous hypocrite?
Yep, Satan aka Lucifer aka the fallen angel aka the son of god walks in to the "Sons of God divine council meeting" where God nonchalantly has a conversation with the "root and king of all evil" (his archenemy). God: "Have you considered doing evil against Job? If not then please try doing it".....wow! Not to mention Satan successfully manages to tempt and incite the all-good and all-loving God to do "evil" against the righteous and upright Job (Job 2:3). This also proves that if God made everything then he created evil and evil is under God's control. Also not to mention the fact that God replaces all of Job's family, servants etc. as if a person's original family is replaceable like a tool or something.... This also corroborates the book genesis where God creates the crafty serpent in the first place and if he was omniscient, then he would clearly have know the outcome of his actions. To conclude, the God of the bible is an asshole who is worse that Lucifer.
that book was GOD speaking to his son yes homie ,but it was a conversation as in one direction. Meaning in the since that he was a disgrace a let down. He spoke on job with integrity and faith knowing that job was a soider and would not take into question GODS reason. He took to it as we do a battle a knowing of what blessing we have and what this bitch of a vato luicifer took for granted . What was givin was a part of existence to job and how he has place in the livez of us .all. GOD didnt give the devil permission in the since of allowing him to take from job but a knowing of how job was gonna get on him.
