While I went to Clifton First Monday, I dropped my recorder in Xenia to catch the test of their siren system, which is also part of Greene County's sirens and all sirens in the county are activated from Xenia, since Xenia is the county seat of Greene County.
Xenia's current siren system is comprised of 12 small logo 2001-SRNB's which were installed by Federal Field back in 2002 following the September 20, 2000 F4 tornado which coincidentally happens to have been on the day I was born (although back then my parents lived in Illinois as most of my family is originally from the Chicago area). The sirens cover both the City of Xenia and Xenia Township, replacing a system of 5 late A-Series Thunderbolt 1000T's (Series A2) which went up in the late 1970’s following the April 3, 1974 F5 tornado that wiped the city off the map and destroyed 95% of the city.
City officials were concerned about the sirens not sounding before the September 2000 tornado as the power had been knocked out prior to when the tornado hit, rendering the sirens unusable. This led to their replacement after FEMA gave Xenia a "Project Impact" grant in 2002.
Sirens in Greene County (except for WPAFB) are tested on the First Monday of every Month at noon, weather-permitting.
