Audio of Irvine (CA) Police Department Response to Lion Country Safari Fatality, July 24, 1983 

On July 24, 1983, a female Indian elephant named Misty killed a chief zoologist at Lion Country Safari in Irvine, California. This audio recording is of the Irvine Police Department response to the incident, starting at about 8:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time. The recording runs about three hours.

Misty was eventually transferred to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. She was euthanized in 2016 due to various illnesses and loss of appetite. An article about Misty's life is at:
