I received my LP1240, your video review is great but to actually feel and see the quality of the build is a different experience. I would definitely recommend this model. I am thinking about selling my LP120 which I less than a year old and use that money towards the purchase of another LP1240. Keep up the good work.

great video - what LP1240's top plate material? - did you feel any slop or drag in the arm's bearings? how's the rumble for critical listening ? (I'll run it with a tube RIAA and good A->D for archiving)

Great review man. I'm just looking for a good turntable to enjoy listening to vinyl, i'm not a DJ but i like a lot of the features this turntable comes with. Is it good for just listening to vinyl or should i get something else? I've read that when your speakers are on high volume there's a buzzing or hum from the motor

Just bought this table. Love it..... Question though, when you "Unlock" the Tone Arm Assembly Height does the whole tone arm slightly move out of place and back into place when you lock it? I'm experiencing this with my table seeing if its standard.

I find your vids very informative. im looking to get into turntablism as a hobby. there is so much info out there its a bit overwhelming. Im looking at the AT-LP 1240's and the Stanton T92's. any opinion on whats a good turntable for a beginner? I don't want cheap because I know I will want to upgrade, but I don't want the best as a beginner. also any preference on traktor vs. Serato? I haven't even begun to look at mixers yet.

I have the Audio Technica LP-120. I've had it for years and I'm about ready to get rid of it. It's been a good turntable other than the anti-skate issues. A defective anti-skate was a well known defect in the LP-120's as well as "humming" from the motor when volume and bass are turned up and I'm just hoping that the LP-1240 does NOT have this problem. If this LP-1240 is in fact of better quality, I would love to get one.
@RealDJblaze
@RealDJblaze 7 лет назад
It is leaps and bounds above the 120... No problems with hum...
@GrubbySalad
@GrubbySalad 6 лет назад
That humming is just due to the crappy preamp that isnt being completely bypassed with the switch, people have made videos showing how to remove the crappy preamp and fix the antiskate spring, its either the spring or the wires are too thick in the tonearm causing the arm to move back to position But then again, one should not have to take apart a turntable to get the results they want right out of the box.

..greatly appreciate the response!, im really into getting the AT's, but im worried about the s-tonearm skipping, but dont want to spend an exrra 200 just for a stanton with a straight arm, you think AT's quality is better than TTX?, what do you suggest??. Also, off topic ive seen your "styleflip" review, how durable is the decal around the fader areas?, does it scratch/wear off after awhile due to fingers nails etc??, appreciate you helping me on my potential purchases!

Hello, would you recommend me buying one of these for Domestic Use and Vinyl Digitizing? I have a very nice Numark TTUSB from 2011 but I've had issues with it's power supply (part of Brazil's power network works at 220v, my Numark works at 110v). I've turned on my Numark (110v) directly into 220v *TWICE* and only at the second time it broke the power supply, I've had it repaired but the plate is kinda "dancy" now, it's not as straight as it was before... I have some videos of my Numark if you'd like to watch.
@ciscoelnino
@ciscoelnino 11 лет назад
i hear yah and i agree, its just been seen as the popularity with scratch dj's that straight arms tend to hold the groove better. ie why some djs angle their carts to mimic a straight arm, why dj focus started making straight arm kits for 1200s, why vestax went with straight arms (minus their earlier and mix version), maybe even why q-bert says his home setup now is str8-150's and a z2. I agree with you, a properly set-up S-arm will hold up just as well. to each his own.

What do you think about this TT from an audiophile perspective? I have no intention of using my TT for DJ purposes. Have you played with the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon? It comes with a really good cart. A good onboard preamp is important to me, I'm sure you noticed.

@GalaxieMarauder
@GalaxieMarauder 11 лет назад
I had heard that Numark had the chance to use the ST-150 cabinet as its own but declined that to design their own, which was the TT-200/-500. The put the LCD (screen with a few mods) they had in the Pro TT in the cabinet and it became the TTX. Interchangeable tone arms sound like a great idea but the gimble controlling tone arm articulation was weak, the buttons werent made for long term durability and there were power control problems on the circuit boards.

wanted to get a 1200 mk5 but prices are hi so I'm considering this one. just wondering, the 1200 has a better arm than this rite? does this have the same preamp capacitance problem as the AT LP120? noticed quite a few people who have yanked out the preamp off their LP120s. thanks

I think I may have an interest in these by this Christmas. The prices on the Super OEMs have dropped about 13-23% since last November('12). The 1240 was retailing for $499 and now it is about $370. The ST-150 was $599-699 and is now about $449-499. The TT-X/-200/-500 have too many tonearm and PCB defects to be taken seriously. Does this have a slot for an extra headshell?

you mentioned the something about the rubbery feel to the buttons and said that they feel different from the stantons. i got a pair of str8150s and out of the box the rubbery coating from all the buttons seems to have melted and felt really sticky. do you think this could happen to the lp1240 in the long run too?

I have ST-150's and mine still feel fine after 4yrs of use. The LP1240 is the same as the stanton in terms of buttons, so I cannot say... They could be the same.

Now with these turntables do they allow you chop and screw music... like dj screw... really big fan of him... additionally I also record with local artists does this turnable allow you to scratch underground music? I like the old school look don't want a whole bunch of bottons liking the pitch feature. Are you able to slow the tempo down? Can you sit the tables up to re-record music. Basically scratching then puting them onto a blank cd. Is the compatible with more then one format such as iTunes

re:1240 metal plate = metal = good. assuming its steel and the majority of weight difference between 1240 and ST.150 comes from the top plate, then ST.150 would roughly have around 35 cubic inches more steel in the top plate. Is 1240's top plate thin? is it laminated with plastic?

Really hoping you can answer this. Current LP120 owner here, looking to upgrade to the 1240. I have just a couple of questions. On the LP120, you had to remove the preamp to get the best sound. Is this necessary with the 1240 as well? Also, is there any motor noise on the 1240 like there is with the LP120? Lastly, the anti-skate does not work correctly on the LP120. Has this been fixed on the 1240? Thanks so much.
@RealDJblaze
@RealDJblaze 5 лет назад
The 1240 is totally different from the 120... The 1240 is internally grounded with a much better pre-amp. The motor of the 1240 is WAY better than the one on the 120. Not even close... You will be happy...

Kareem, I'm debating between getting a pair of these Audio Technica or the Numark TTXUSB but I'm leaning towards the Numark. I've read in a few places that the Numar TTXUSB is NOT a super oem turntable (see the discussion thread on skratchlounge with pics) even though they closely resemble them. I really like the look of these but it's missing the key lock button that the TTXUSB has which obviously only matters if you're playing actual vinyl records instead of using Serato. The current best price of the TTXUSB from Google Shopping is $399 and the LP1240 is $349. For $50 more you get interchangeable straight and S tone arms, key lock and display with BPM counter but no dust cover. I do like the 1200s style platter on the LP1240 over the TTXUSB.

Thank you for the review. It seems a great well made machine, but... What about its sound quality? Is any hum or rumble noticeable between tracks? Any arm resonances? Is the quartz speed so stable as expected or tone variations are noticeable?
@RealDJblaze
@RealDJblaze 8 лет назад
The quartz speed is very stable and the sound quality is superb. you can use the built in pre-amp which is nice OR you can use it in PHONO mode and use an amp of your choice. No hum or rumble unless you are right over a subwoofer or something! Great turntable all around...

@karlsonkab51
@karlsonkab51 10 лет назад
just now sitting it up - seems sturdy - ok arm - nice finish - gotta be a good DJ table for the money and just as good as a ST.150 if not abused - - for ripping lps, I hope there's a mat which will damp the platter's bell-like ring - seems like they coated the flat disc of the platter but did nothing for the beveled edge. I'm used to old tables which would be worthless for scratching but great for listening - lol - got an early VPI with platter which must weigh ~12-15lb - not a perfect design either as the pulley is too tall and put too much strain imo on the motor's top bearing.
@mannypvd2296
@mannypvd2296 11 лет назад
ATLP1240 is the same high torque motor and tone arm assembly as the Stanton str8-150 but is cheaper in price correct? if this is the case I believe i will be buying a pair of the audio technicas. after buying the cartridge the LP1240 is still about $100 cheaper the str8-150.

Wish all the Reviewers would talk about and Display the Nightmare that Is on nearly all New TT's the ANTI-SKATE. Has It got power or not does It work like It should or Not. All the New TT's seem to be aimed at the Scratch DJ as We know they Use It on Zero. So the companies put Longer Weaker Springs In as of the Ill fated AT-LP120USB. dope review you went over all the essentials perfectly, one thing is that the numark ttx isnt one of the "Super-OEM" tables, the internals are totally different, I would put this table closer to the American Audio HTD 4.5 with USB and Line out, also under that glossy finished thin piece of sheet metal is just a piece of plastic, the stanton 150 is a full piece of steel and will absorb more, ie if you were to tap the casing the 150 you will hear less "thuds". sorry for the rant :)

Bought 2 matched.. and the pitch once out of quartz are not matched. I have to calibrate them !! And one head shell does not align perfectly level ( I use bubble levels for everything) - and one of the tonearms wiggle slightly even after the tightening that people do suggest. I had to send one turntable back when I received the first time as the platter on one of them was literally wedged down and damaged the motor.. bought them brand new in box off Amazon but they had sent me a return from another customer by mistake !!! They fixed the problem pretty much instantly with almost no hassel except shipping the turntable back within 60 days.
