Some years ago, I purchased one of those cheap Crosley's and immediately returned it and promptly went back to reviews of turntables online. I ended up not getting a turntable until April of this year (2024) and I purchased this Audio Technica at Walmart on a whim. As an entry level player, I absolutely love it. Looking to keep it until the holidays (hoping to upgrade for a Black Friday discount). I would personally highly recommend this turntable for anyone looking to get into vinyl. It won't break the bank, it won't damage your records, and has some nice features at this price point.

I got one of these about 2 months ago, and I’ve been very satisfied with it! I have some Edifier bookshelf speakers hooked up to it and it sounds very nice for the price. While I’ve also been browsing higher-quality turntables for future use, this one has established my love for the hobby as I keep building up my vinyl collection!

At 32 minutes, this is a perfect video. The pace was just right. When I noticed the time length, I brewed coffee and prepared to sit down and give this my full attention. I appreciate full-length videos. It's a better viewing experience when the host has enough time to relax and speak calmly, than to rush everything into a briefer time space. Thank you kindly for this content. I absolutely agree- the tinted dust cover is better than clear plastic, and the gunmetal color is better than black. Technics turntables always looked better, because they used that shade (in the days of P- mount cartridges). I also agree- this is an acceptable entry-level device. For someone just starting out, desiring a serious experience and not wanting to waste hard-earned money on a disposable toy, this unit would give a reasonable level of satisfaction. Just imagine...for $160, and a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, a person would be ready to listen. A Bluetooth speaker would also sound alright. It's important to consider, however, that listening via Bluetooth does necessitate digitizing the sound. One is no longer hearing an analog sound. It would be exactly the same as recording a record onto a blank CD. But, that isn't a negative thing. Just an interesting thing to know. I absolutely would have corrected those speeds. I was very interested to hear the host mention that if the speed was going to be slightly inaccurate he would prefer too fast, instead of too slow. I am exactly the opposite: If I have to endure a very slight level of inaccuracy, I'd rather it be slightly slow. But...I would go to any amount of bother to correct it. I always remember that often engineers and producers used to speed recordings up, to "sweeten" the sound. So chances are we are already hearing something that's too fast, even when we have our turntables exactly accurate. If I adjust a pitch simply by ear, to the point where it sounds correct to my ear, I usually find that it registers as slow on the strobe. Thank you again for a great video. You are drawing together a very cool community.

I'm exactly the same: My DUAL played a little too fast on both speeds. Not by much, but it was enough to drive me nuts. Not because I heard the difference, but because I KNEW. I have tried adjusting the speeds, but had no luck with the pots on the motor. I guess my screwdrivers weren't the right ones. So I grabbed fine sanding paper and ground down the pulley ever so slightly. Now both speeds are spot on. Totally unnecessary, but I'm glad I did it 😉

@@TheAndy1268 Oh my....but, if the belt gets looser, then... It can be tricky, adjusting those screws. It's something that done almost 'blindly'. Once your long screwdriver is in there, turn it to get a feel for when the tool is actually in the groove. Sometimes there is a slight layer to push through, to get to the screw. ( I am not exactly comfortable with how this all sounds.) Once you get a mental picture of what's going on, it's easier. And, just the slightest movement of the screw, barely fraction of a revolution, is enough to alter the speed. It takes several tries...But it's worth the effort.

Thanks for doing this review. After watching it, I was at Walmart yesterday and decided to go into the electronics section to check it out. They had an open box one for sale for $119. I don't really need another turntable, but I don't have a Bluetooth one, and at that price, I couldn't say no. Haven't tested it yet, but I hope I don't have to return it. If it works, it will be my new bedroom turntable.

I actually have this one it was a it was Christmas gift cause I've been wanting one for years. I also want to add that after a few months of use I noticed the tonearm was dropping a little too aggressively so i did actually fix the issue with a bit just a bit if dampening fluid and by loosening a screw with a spring that is responsible for lifting and lowering thr tonearm. I use it almost everyday and it drops nice and slow and smooth. I was just too scared that it would break my Stylus too soon or that it would blow one if my speakers because each time it dropped it was a pretty dramatic boom on my speakers. But I'm happy I did that myself and I'm very satisfied with it.

The Bluetooth codec aptX isn’t lossless. You need a speaker or headphones/earbuds that also support aptX (also known as aptX Classic). If you don’t, you get SBC. SBC is the most basic and poorest quality Bluetooth codec. Qualcomm does make a codec that does CD-quality lossless but it’s not in that turntable. They call it “aptX Lossless” but it’s really a mode of the latest iterations of the codec called “aptX Adaptive”. aptX Adaptive without lossless is available in the AT-LP3XBT but they mismarket this as just aptX. It does lossy 24-bit/96kHz which is estimated to be around 80% of lossless quality. That makes it as good as it gets just now for vinyl to wireless Bluetooth speakers or headphones/earbuds also equipped with the aptX Adaptive codec. I struggle to tell the difference between wired and wireless with it.

I bought my Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB-BK back in 2020. Upgraded the cartridge to a VM-540ML. I'm very satisfied with it's sound. I think Audio-Technica makes great beginner turntables. What I miss is having an automatic turntable for those times when I just want to put on a record, work around the house without having to jump over to it to catch the tone arm before it hits the label. Since I might be getting one soon, thanks for that tip about raising the cue arm before starting it up. Love your reviews Record-ology!

Hi, Thanks for these informative videos. A friend sent me this one because I’m looking to upgrade from a Crosley suitcase player. I’m a newbie and have a Bluetooth speaker but am interested in using some Sharp bookshelf speakers that a neighbor was giving away. my question is: does this turntable require speakers and how do you plug them in? I would consider Audio Technica products the ABSOLUTE ground floor for modern turntables. Currently a Crosley Cruiser Premier owner waiting for his chance to elevate his listening experience. Need some more modern good quality recs too. Also old school logo felt mat ftw. I GOTTA get one of these sometime.

Not all automatic cycles are driven by the turntable’s motor. The automatic cycle of the Sony PS-X55 runs independently of the platter’s rotation. I’ve NEVER seen this anywhere else, and it’s really amazing to see the platter stop completely before the tonearm returns to the starting point! I think it’s because the unit says that it’s computer controlled. I wish they’d make high-quality direct-drive fully automatic turntables again. Peace.

Finally got one of these. Accidentally forgot that useful tonearm tip (😓), but now it seems to be working fine on auto mode. Lesson learned for next time? This thing sounds so much better than the Crosley I had before. The BT headphone feature is great and sounds WAY better than the Crosley’s BT connection. Just as I expected, AT doesn’t make garbage.

A pretty decent little turntable especially for the price. But as mentioned, I remember just a couple of years ago, those things were going for about $100, which was a truly excellent deal. Other than a few cosmetic changes, it does seem virtually identical to the AT LP60X BT. Since Walmart is selling these things for a good $60 cheaper than the equivalent AT unit ($160 vs $220 on Amazon as of this writing for the AT LP60X BT), it does make you wonder where Walmart is cutting corners to be able to sell a cheaper product. But than again, since it is an exclusive product of Walmart, they may not have to cut corners and thus is a good way to get people into their stores. Also, the fact that it is a Walmart exclusive also means that if say the actual AT LP60X is sold at a cheaper price elsewhere, people can't go into Walmart for a price match, since it is considered a different model, even though, by all accounts, they are the exact same thing besides color. Still, given the choice, I do agree with the opinion in the video in that I also would prefer the smoke/tinted dust cover and that gun-metal grey color of the unit over the clear dust cover and black color of the "regular" AT LP60X BT. As noted, interesting that the "G" does look an awful lot like the "6", and of course, the "O" vs "0" in the product model. I am quite certain that was deliberate, as a way to still say it is a "LP60" even though they bill it as the "LPGO".

You can upgrade the stylus with an LP Gear Carbon Fidelity CFN3600LE bonded elliptical stylus which is still an Audio Technica product. I upgraded my LP60X-BT with one before I upgraded to a Fluance TT.

Only problem with these is you can't upgrade the needle because there is no way to change the weight on the tonearms but it is a nice turntable.

Nice review. I have just a few remarks though. The tracking force is actually a little lower than you measured. The scale rested on the platter and platter mat, so the platform was a few millimeters higher than if the needle would rest on an actual record. With units using a counterweight, that's not an issue and the weight won't change. These use a spring though, so the lower the needle drops, the lighter the weight gets. Not by much though, just a thing I thought was worth mentioning. The second one is: Doesn't your thrift-store-bought LP60 have a USB out? I noticed the blank space on the back of the LPGO and immediately thought "well there's your difference". I have a DUAL DT 210-1, which is basically the same turntable. It has no Bluetooth, but USB out. Wasn't the direct feed a little fast, or was I imagining that?

AptX, AptX-LL,AptX-HD, and AptX-AD (OG) are all lossy CODECs. Only the new AptX Lossless - apparently an extension or new tier added to AD - is claimed to be lossless. However, it's scarcely available, and not likely to be offered on a budget turntable, where it's more likely to be vanilla lossy AptX, albeit @16bit/44.1/48kHz/325/384kbps resolution, whereas uncompressed CD is 16/44.1 @circa 1.4mbps.

Somebody bet me to it. Although I have to nerd out further and note that the 1.4mb bit rate for CD isn’t related to the Bluetooth transmission bit rate. It’s the rate at which raw CD data needs to be read locally by a system to play it back without interruption. aptX Lossless goes up to 1.2Mb for CD-quality but this is just the Bluetooth transmission rate achieved by their algorithm. Some people compare Bluetooth bit rates between different codecs but it’s a meaningless comparison parameter in terms of quality. It’s only really relevant to energy consumption. Each codec uses its own algorithm which results in different amounts of data that will be transmitted. Some might send more data than the others at the same or even less transmission rate.

The only problem with the two of them is that there's no weight ajustmen on the tone arm and the cartridge is not replaceable. Just one man's opinion.

That's interesting, but I think I'd get the LP60X minus the BT. I have an LP-60-BT now and I never use the BT as I have my speakers wired to my receiver/amp and all my speakers are passive 8 Ohm un-powered speakers. I can pair the receiver/amp to BT speakers, but the only of those I have are on my Echo and Echo Dot and frankly, my passive speakers (Fluance and Klipsch) sound much better than the Dot speaker or the Echo, and walmart has the LP-60X for $10 less that the LP-GO-BT. For someone wanting just a turntable without a receiver/amp though I imagine the LP-GO-BT would be a great system. :)

The reason it is a Walmart exclusive is because Walmart really pushes vendors to make special SKUs for Walmart. They ask for a lower price and it's up to the vendor to figure out how to do that. They also often demand product packages with different quantities, or multi-packs. This is why so many products scream "BONUS! 30% MORE FREE!" or similar. The question is how Audio Technica reduced the cost. Did they just accept less profit? Or did they reduce the BOM? May never know.

I noticed another (slight) difference to the Go version, which might not be so obvious; but it is none the less worth mentioning. The hinges on the dust cover. They are a little bigger on there as opposed to the 60. (Don't know if this means they are stronger/more durable or anything, though; obviously. Two more things to note: which were not stated: One: Is the output wired correctly? Two - the later sound test was at 45 RPM, I only mention it just in case it wasn't deliberate; so there wouldn't be any copyright issues. LOL. Just saying!

Usually I think your reviews of economy turntables have pretty decent audio results, but not this one. Other than the snap, crackle, pop I found it almost painful to listen to. I think it would be worth using an external phono pre-amp. I went back and rewatched your video of the LP60X-BT you did in February and the direct feed in that one sounded very good. Too bad you didn't use that same album.

Oh yes, absolutely. Lp Gear's carbon fidelity elliptical. That's exactly what I did with my LP60X because these needles are specially designed for beginner's turntables like this. Perhaps not everyone has replaced the felt mat with an acrylic, but that's what I've done anyway, and I think the 60X is all the better for it.
