Why can't more tutorials be like this. Short 2 minute explanation without "sorry I haven't posted in a while" or "my mom used to love making this pasta sauce". Perfect!
They're even as bad as when you go to look up a recipe and the mother fuckers like "Back in 1978, I was in on my way home from work and walked by a cornfield, the smell reminded me of this old dish my grandmother used to make. She grew up in rural Virginia and became a nurse at Virginia Hospital, it's one of the best in the Nation! She would bring her patients this plate and they absolutely loved it!" You get the point lol
thx for the fast and simple vid. changing the pads is truly a game changer for the ATH! my ears hurt so much before after a while, now they are so light and comfortable while still retaining great sound quality.
Thanks bud. Short, concise, straight to the point. Stock pads lasted me a while but are starting to flake alot. bought some cheap replacements and they fit quite nicely.
Great tutorial. Was having some issues installing a different brands ear pads and they had no such guide, luckily this guide works for all brands. Will look to buying some of your pads if these ones ever wear out :)
Dude just got new Brainwavz pads for my Status Audio CB-1s and this video is a big help for how I can install my new cushions once they arrive on Monday...thank you so much for making this video!
You are welcome! We would like to believe that if we had cushions for the CB-1'S, you would get them from us instead :( Even if its a lie, just say yes so we can feel better :)
bro can you confirm if the replacement has impacted the sound? Read that if you use a 3rd party pads it impacts the sound of Audio Technica Headphones. Pls confirm.
Thank you very much .. I thought the ear cushions were glued .. I wanted to send them to audiotechnica everyone stays healthy ... and please support the clubs when they open again. Greetings from Berlin our DJ Rainfire
Same, I ordered a new pair of pads, and then went to go try to pull the other off, and was like "If I ruin the ones on there, and these do not fit right, I am fucked...." Put them up, and then looked it up on youtube. New pads on
My ATH50 cushions were shot so I bought a pair of these. They were easy to install when remembering you can stretch them. I'm wearing them right now and what an improvement! Big thumb up to you guys. 😀
Just swapped the og pads on my ATh M50BT 1st gen and maaaaan! Huge difference in comfort, cushioning and fit! My the ear opening is definitely wider on the new ones . I bought the WC Freeze pads and V2 Bandz Headband cause it was peeling badly. It is a liiiittle tricky getting the new pads on so be patient and take your time folks. Very happy with both!
I have had my Ath M40x cans for about 5 years and the pads are finally starting to crack and I will be buying some replacment pads soon and now I feel confident replacing them
Man, I had no idea you could even replace these earcups. The outside of mine are completely crumbling and leaving black bits all over my ears and wherever I leave them. Didn't realise you can pull the earcups right off, thank you
Thank you for this! I was attacked by a drunk while I had my headphones on, and the ear pad came off partially. I thought I had to glue it or something. But after watching this, I noticed the pad had just come off part of the way and was able to put it back on. Glad I watched this before I started gluing!!
i will be a life time fan of audio technicas. After years of use my ear pads have warn out and the cushions are no longer. So my ears have been hurting after hours of use in a session. I foolishly bought logitech's g pro x headset and boy do they suck compared to the m50xs. I wasnt sure if i could replace my ear pads until seeing your video. I will now order new ear pads and sell my logitch ones thank you so much :)
I own two pairs of the 50's in my recording studio and i abostely love them. That said, when you get ear pads replacements that are this big it completely changes the sound of the headphones. This is literally pushing them further away from your ears so just something to consider. However i did check out your website and they seem like great quality. I think they're more suitable for people who don't do professional work with headphones just for just listening to music, etc. Thumbs up #101
I bought these the first time I replaced my ear pads. They only last a year or two before they started shedding black plastic. I was going to reorder, but reviewers said they went cheap on materials and are not as good as they used to be, so I bought some authentic AT replacement pads. It took me more than 30 minutes and more than a little swearing to get them on. After that, I realized the Authentic AT pads are extremely uncomfortable. Next time (which may not be very long) I'm going to use these again.
I am really sorry to hear that! We use the same materials that most headphones brands use these days. In terms of real leather however, we are very much against using real animal leather for ear pads. The lifespan will be very dependant on how you use the headphones the most & by how much you actually sweat in them. People who sweat heavily (like me) will have their ear pads deteriorate much faster than people who barely sweat. However, there are some things you can do to extend the life of your ear pads regardless of how much you sweat & we made a video for it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p9macrrnW-Q.html&lc=Ugy3Lbiw1MZOJ1v3wrJ4AaABAg. Looking forward to your next order. Also, our pads comes with a 1 year warranty, but you can still reach out to us even after and we will take care of that for you.
I just got my replacement earpads today and worked as a charm on my ATH M50x, not only comfortable but sound is quite a lot better now, good, product, thanks... Oh and the video helped me do the change pretty fast
Ordered a set of these off of amazon after noticing the ear pads on my M40s were sticking to papers on my desk and leaving black marks. They got good reviwes on amazon and seem to be favorable here, so I ordered them and can't wait for them to show up.
I just installed the velour on my ath-m50s. Very comfy. Installation was a bit tricky but I got it done. Headphones still sound great. I recommend. I also got a Defean headband cover which was a real pain to get on but it works well.
We have seen some very rare cases that for some reason the earpads are GLUED. We have no idea why, but 99% of the earpads are not suppose to be glued at all
@@WickedCushions So I actually did manage to get them off and there wasn't glue (I don't think). HOWEVER, they were EXTREMELY STIFF compared to the ones in this video. That is why they did not come out as easy. Not sure if they were made like that or if it was due to age but that was the exact reason they didn't come off easily. Also I had to use a lot more effort (not as gentle) and push inward from up top to get them out versus the sides. Still pulling but with a lot more effort.
Great tutorial! Short and to the point! Though, for the life of me, I can’t understand why you replaced the old pads with treble-trapping pads for cans that have excessive treble??
@@WickedCushions No, I wanted to reduce the treble, not enhance it XD Non-perforated ear pads are not recommended by sound engineers, technicians (nor people like “DMS” and “Z Reviews”) alike when one wants to reduce treble frequencies from their ATH-50x’s. Unless, your company wants to argue that closed leather pads do not cause bass and treble echoing....
Do your pads suffer from the same fate as Brainwavz, the foam over the driver is too thin for the M50x leading to ear bleeding treble, neutered bass, and crushed mids? I tried to get a good look to see how “see through” they are, to no avail. I just got my M50x yesterday and the stock pads are already bugging the crap out of me, especially pressing against my glasses. Are these memory foam too like other brands? I’m about to pull the trigger on yours or the hybrids. I like what people are saying about yours on Amazon.
Wicked Cushions I haven’t tried the other brand yet. I don’t like having to send stuff back. So, these are TRULY aftermarket made for the M50 & M40, that’s encouraging! They aren’t some “they also fit yadda yadda but were designed for blah blah”. Cool, I’ll check your website for warranty info etc.
Wicked Cushions ok, pack em up and ship em out, lol, can’t wait! I was really afraid I was going to pay $50 and settle for something that wasn’t going to get the job done properly.
I just bought my M50x and I like them a lot but I'm not liking the stock pads at all as they are small enough for ears that it actually hurts. How are you liking these earpads? I'm about to purchase them but I'm nervous it'll affect the sound quality. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I was a little leery of pulling on the mount edge so 'hard' .... worried about nothing and *excellent* product! Any thoughts as to making top strap pad replacements available? If so, how do I get on the waiting list? ;) Well Done Wicked Cushions!
How much do these change the sound? because with other pads they are said to push the driver so much further away from your ear every centimeter counts. Do you guys make any that will fit the logitec G933?
hello, i've got the m40x and with the new red pads in velour from amazon, I have very better natural bass, and a better stereo ... but a little too much mid ... this is because is in velour ? the sound is awesome, but too much around 1kHz now .... sounds better with great pad like in your video ?
The only way to understand it is to buy a $10 cushion and compare it to our cushion, nothing I will say will make you understand that better than that. We do not make headband cushions, I am sorry :/
any difference between sound difference from the leather to the velour, im leaning towards the velour, any differences i should know, and which would you recommend.
Hard to say. These sound marginally different than the originals. I'm inclined to say the originals sound better, but these are more comfortable because they are larger so they fit around my whole ear. The sound isolation is better than the originals too.
I have a pair of ATH-M50XWH and the ear pads are pretty much like yours.. except they were flaking off and would stick to my face LOL I just ordered an official replacement for $25, I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 PRO headphones.. it's CRAZY to me that the Sennheiser headphones I have are $99 brand new, and the Audio Technica are $250 new on newegg and $170 on amzn.. but to me the Sennheiser sound so much better. They have better bass in my opinion. The ear pads are also bad on those.. but I ended up replacing the Audio Technica cause I like how you can put different cords on them, and they can fold up.. Have you ever used the Sennheiser hd 280 pro before? if so, what are your opinion on the two compared?
Seem like a great business, wish you guys had brown ones to match the color of me green and brown headphones.. I like some of the other colors and styles you guys have though. Not sure which i want to buy though. Might just end up buying white.
i've got the m40x and with the new pad, the sound is very different ! now I have very more natural bass and a very better stereo soundstage, it's an other headphone !!
Just to be clear, noise cancelling can be assisted by the pads, but what most people think nowdays is actually ACTIVE noise cancelling (which is an electronic feature that actually helps block out the sound) No cushion by itself will completely cancel noise, but there are levels to it. Our velour - least noise cancelling Our PU Leather - Medium level Out Cooling gel pads - Highest level of noise cancelling All can be found in the link here wickedcushions.com/collections/ath-m50x-replacement-ear-pads
@@WickedCushions Thank you for the reply! I have noise in my walls in the apartment due to pipes and elevator room near me. I guess I'll go with the cooling gel ones.
Yeah, but the most important information i need is:How does it affect the sound?I know all earpads change the sound ,but the question is hoe much and for better or worse
My headphones are round, (Status Audio CB1) the size is 9 cm x 9 cm, can these fit them as these are much more oval shaped? Or the Beats replacement pads would be better?
A possibly idiotic question but the thicker aspect of cushions goes over the back of ears, right? Because I had it the other way round and the sound was a bit muffed.
do you know how to remove the whole earpiece from these headphones. mine took a drop to the floor and the tiny plastic protuberance - which pokes into and moves in the groove inbetween the 2 silver circles where the "L" and "R" labels are, which stops the earpiece from rotating right around beyond their designed arc of movement - has broken off. I need to remove the earpiece so i can attempt glueing it back on....?
no worries, i found a full deconstruction guide here : www.head-fi.org/threads/full-ath-m50-deconstruction.586304/. will take a close look at it and see if it is doable for me. btw, your wicked cushions look like a good idea, i know what you mean about the pain after extended wearing time, and i wear glasses which probably makes it worse too....
Hey Jimmy , please follow what we sent to you via email and let us know. Don't be afraid to pull the ear pads, just make sure it won't rip and get stuck in the gap.
Hey there , we cannot speak for other brands. Regarding our own ear pads, we actually made the pads thinner, since we have received a lot of complaints that the thickness moves your ear position far away from the driver and hurts the sound of the headphones. So far , we're getting good reviews.
I just checked my headphones and discovered that the stock earpads had stuck together. When I pulled them apart all of the coating came off! It got really gummy and just dissolved.
Are the ear cups supposed to come off that easy? I've have had my m50x's for almost 6 years now and for the life of me, I cannot remove the ear pad. It starts tearing the faux leather rather than sliding off smoothly like in this video. Now I'm beginning to wonder if my model of m50x are older and the ear pads are non-removeable.
We have recently been exposed to some models that the pads were actually even glued a little to the cups. Most models is just slips off immediately, the one's like you are describing need some force
@@multi2976 Yes, I was. I bought new ear cups a while back. You just have to give them a little force and as the creator of this video said, they might be glued. So just keep pulling and it should be fine. Installing the new ones took like 10 seconds each, very easy :)
