Today, I have the Audio-Technica ATR2100 USB / XLR Dynamic Microphone in the studio. I was a little nervous to try this mic, due to my love for the Samson Q2U... but I conquered my fears and went for it! This is is an XLR mic, BUT it is also a USB mic. It is a dynamic microphone and a pretty popular choice for podcasting and other content creation.
Check out the testing and audio samples and see if this is right for you! Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!

I own this mic. It's my go to when I absolutely and positively need to minimize the background noise, especially when my studio isn't treated. OAN, love the color on your guitar. Good review.

I already own the Q2U so with my luck you'll do a comparison and this'll completely blow it out of the water You should do a guide for EQ for spoken word tho, your EQ'd recording with this mic sounds much better than no-EQ

It was $99 for years, until they came out with the ATR2100X, which can do 24bit (and you can get it in black). $60 seems a better deal. Q2U def sounds better.

just your average guy I actually had every intention of doing comparing those, but then they discontinued this model and came out with the ATR2100X... and since the price points are quite different it threw a bit of a wrench in that idea. I still might do it anyway and briefly include the Atr2100X into the video.

Hopefully u can answer this I live in a busy street will this work for me to talk in my RU-vid videos with out picking up the background noise ???

PrettyLilMzGrace yes! It will definitely do a good job of rejecting that background noise. A couple tips though: Having the back of the microphone pointed at the noisiest area would be ideal, and the closer the mic can be to you, the less noticeable any other noise will be. Thanks for watching!

Great video. New subbie. I'd love to see a comparison between the ATR2100 and the Q2U. I'd love to hear either of them with a cloudlifter. It will add about $150.00 but still be much less expensive to say the Shure SM7B.

It's $149 on Amazon for USED right now. What happened to $63? Did they become so popular the demand exceeded the supply?? It's more than the Yeti, and I just have doubts about the Yeti... I guess I'll keep looking.

This is discontinued now. They came out with the atr2100X to replace it. If you want this particular model, you’ll have to find it used. I would just go with the Samson Q2U though. amzn.to/3jnuZ9L

Paul Rice Jr yeah I was using this weird “on-stage” mic clip that kind of doubles as a shock-mount. It was way too small for this mic, and the only way I could get it in was taking the taller part and spreading it apart as much as possible, getting the top part in, and then shoving the bottom down... it was kind of the only way I could get the mic in haha but I wanted to test it out and she if the “shock mount” part worked.

Wonderful review! One question - Is this good for RU-vid live using softwares like vMix or OBS? Considering you cannot process the audio during a Live video. Also, I'll be connecting it via USB.

It will definitely work well in that situation! I will say, check out the Samson Q2U and decide which sound you like more, and what might fit your voice a better! Both the Samson Q2U and ATR2100 will work great though! Just a note for the future if you decide to get either of these: One nice thing is that if you decide to upgrade and get an audio interface you can still use the XLR ports on either mic (atr2100 or Q2U). Also, for streaming you could consider an interface/mixer that has some effects built in already. That way you could EQ and process your sound before it hits the computer. Hope this helps! @@AudioHotline Thanks so much for the quick and detailed response 🙂 The only problem is that I'm running tight on budget and may not be able to afford an interface at this point. Also, the Samson Q2U isn't available, and only the ATR 2100 is (which I've already ordered from Amazon and should be delivered in a week). Hoping that in the absence of an interface it does work well! Rest assured, I will try to minimise noise at my end as much as possible.

I have a condenser microphone and use it with a Scarlett 2i2. Want to buy a second one, will the ATR2100 work well with the XLR cable and phantom power on? Because I will need the phantom power for the other microphone.

Thanks! Accessories is pronounced with a K sound after the first A - aksessories, not assesories. Accessories, starts like the word access, with the K. You're welcome. Now you will sound even smarter :) .... PS: It's so hard to choose a mic, unless one is sure they want the $399 Shure.

I Have this mic and a problem. The usb stopped working. Will it work with a zoom? will the zoom power is the usb required to power it?

If you have a zoom H4n, H5 or H6, this will definitely work with those. You can just use it as an XLR mic with them. If you use it as an XLR mic, you don’t need to use that USB port at all, it won’t require any additional power. I assume you don’t have some sort of warranty from the place you purchased it? Hopefully you do and can get sent a new one!

I own this mic and when editing audio there is a very noticeable hiss(which I assume is electrical noise) how do remedy this? Do I need an audio interface?
