Why to be racist with the man? He's doing an excellent review and comparation on which one is better for you, not to he wasted money on doing this so you don't waste yours... Thanks for the review Ranjit
Audio Technica makes brilliant headphones ! And i am thankful to Rajit for bringing them to my notice. The best thing about them is that even if you buy the base model of M20, it will blow anything else you have heard for less than 7k out of the competition. The clarity is amazing ! And 50x is the most popular one ! My suggestion after buying the 20x and 50x is that either you buy the 20x and get the same 40mm drivers as 30x or 40x but no features or go all the way and get the 50x with the bigger 45mm drivers. The extra bass does matter. And if you pair the 50x or even the 20x with the FiiO A3 amplifier, man that is amazing ! It amplifies the bass and enhances the soundstage at the same time. There is an option to turn of the bass and with the Poweramp - app - another Ranjit pick - even the bass heads will love it. You will feel the headphones thumping against your ears ! Also if you use a lot of Wynk or You tube, use the Equalizer and Bass Booster by KX App Team and you will love it !
Reviewers have said that the difference in sound between the M20x vs M30x and M30x vs M40x is significantly improved. I believe the M30x adds a folding feature for travel and the M40x adds the detachable cable (which I consider mandatory for any headphones I buy for over $30 now). Someone knocked over my laptop busting one of my headphone jacks with the M40x 3.5mm breaking off. I didn't like the coiled cable so I spent the extra $20 to get the short cable to replace my broken long cable (I found the long cable too long). That made my $80 headphones cost $20 to replace rather than drop $80 on a new pair.
Quality review mate, I've been looking for a short simple review like this and it's confirmed that the 40s r for more studio use rather than everyday listening so ty
For anyone who doesn't understand what 'flat' means for headphones. It just means the headphone itself is not physically designed to add much to the input signal by way of earcup shape, ports etc. That does NOT mean you cannot then use EQ and/or other effects as you like. M40x and M50x have the same power rating and low end freq response, so just add all the bass you want.
@@prasanth320 it arrive today and really awesome..except the force that hurt my ear. But after few hour. I get use to it. Those who said this lack bass. OMG. I love pop and classic song so. It produce the require bass. As i have use sony xb950.. this one sound pure bass. Sony just bang vibration.... , i cnt compare with other. For bollywood, waaw..just waaw...every instrument came inti play. U knw..we indian has lots of small details in our music. I dnt regret
I appreciate you sharing with us the differences in features as opposed to just telling us which is 'better' overall by your own bias. That way, it doesn't feel like you're choosing for the viewer. Thanks for the info!
I have owned a M50x for 6 months or so, 1. They take time to break in around 100-150 hours. 2. A huge improvement in their comfort comes from Brainwavz memory foam earcups(changes the sound signature a little bit but totally worth it) which sells for around 1500-1800 INR.(They become far more comfortable than QC 35) 3. Internet is filled with their sound signature study. M50x emphasizes base frequencies a little more than other studio headsets. Hence they are more consumer friendly. 4. check out the MSR7 they are better looking and similar or a little better sound signature(smart phone friendly too) but a little uncomfortable due to a higher clamping force. Personally i am an audiophile and i still go for M50x for their sound clarity and even punchy base. If you are a true enthusiast do check out Beyerdynamics or AKG pairs too. Headphones reviews are way too subjective. Personally i think everybody needs to find the sound signature that suits them.
im looking for punchy bass, not the dragged out kind of bass, i like all my frequencies to sounds good too. I use equalisers to tweak everything out. I listen to rock, house, classical , most known genres.. What would you suggest? I want the best sound
Great insight, man. Even tho they are marketed as monitoring, i believe they are good for an all around headphones. M50x would be great for me i believe, because i like a little bit of extra bass and still have that clarity along mids and highs that none of those cheap "gaming" crap can produce. I'm using Superlux HD631 and for the price they are amazing, but the treble sometimes hurt... I managed to make it smoother by adding thicker pads tho.
When checking the rotation on the M40x, the headphones are put on the wrong way. In fact, you can't lay the ear cups flat on your chest with the M40x, one of its biggest shortcomings I find.
Hello, racists! I see many of you in the audience like to make the same "Indian accents are funny" comment. Please, take it elsewhere. We've all heard your "joke", and it is small, petty, and tired.
I ended up getting the M40x a few years ago for $80 (and Amazon gave me a $30 rebate because they dropped the price a week after I got them). Considering the M50x was, and still is $50 more expensive, I am happy with my purchase. My brother ended getting the M50x on my recommendation for headphones some time after me, and I agree with you. The M50x has SLIGHTLY more bass, just enough to make it a more enjoyable experience. And considering the extra cable is $20, you are paying really $30 more for the bass and the swivel. If I did buy a pair again, I might consider the M50x, but probably would save the extra $50 and get the M40x again. I am considering the QC35 and Sony 1000MX3 to get ANC. A friend of mine just got the Sony's so I will probably try them and compare them to my M40x for sound quality, as reviewers say the ANC is as good or better than Bose. But I might wait (Sony seems to update the 1000s every August) to see if they fix the wind and cold problem with the headphones. Worst case, the current gen Sony's might get a discount. I would consider the Bose if they have USB-C charging since I threw out all my old microUSB cables.
the ATH-M series are intended for studios. so imo M40x is the better headphone period because it tries to recreate the original sound from your devices/instruments without adding extra strength to any particular range. i've had it for my digital piano and drum kit for about half a year now and that's saying something. cuz i have previously owned m50x and mdr-xb650bt. neither of them lasted more than 2 weeks before i sold/refunded them.
This is indeed a very honest review and holds true to their performances. The M40x is competitively priced and it's worth every penny. It gives a flat sound with no extra base so it gives the original effect. Really good review about the headphones. Ended up buying M40x after this review. If anyone is looking for an affordable set of headphones which is worth every penny that you spend should definitely go for M40x.
Yeah great review hey? I couldn't decide which brand or model to get for the last few weeks now I do the M40x is the one I'm going for! Hope you're enjoying yours very much ? :)
Hi Ranjit, this video's 4 years old but I just want to express my thanks for doing this review! You've helped me made a decision and save money! I've always used Airpods to edit but recently I've been building my setup and wanted a good pair of headphones that can work best for my professional work. Thanks for this!
farhan naim hear on is much better than m40 x and m50 x i have heard the whole audio techinca line up and many other headphones in this price range in india its awesome :)
i totally agree sound quality and clarity is just amazing on m50x. I have also listened to bose qc35 and found that sound quality is not that good as price difference is huge and ranjit is first person who is not praising bose qc35 for sound quality(totally true ) as compare to m50x so yess if anyone wants pure sound nothing else and do not want fance features like ANC, wireless playback then m50x can easily beat top of the line headphones in terms of sound
Hi Ranjit I've been hesitating for weeks about the M50x then I found your review exactly what I was looking for! I'm going to 'pull the trigger' and purchase the M40X as I don't want slightly 'treated bass' in my sound quality and a lighter headphone is ideal Cheers mate! Subbed :)
just now listening with m40x s...i own m40x and also listened with m50x...the m40xs are really flat response that is suitable for studio...and on the other hand m50x has e little bit low end boost...those who want to work on studio get a m40x...and general listening m50x.. :)
Apologies for muddying the waters here, but those who can stump up the extra cash for the ATH-MSR7 over the M50X really need to hear these incredible cans. I dont know what the respective prices are on the Subcontinent, but here in Oz it's anywhere up to 100AUD difference - all I can suggest is that hearing both will enable you to decide if that is money well spent. I love the AD line, especially the AD900, but the MSR7 are the first closed A-T cans that have instantly wowed me and that just isnt the case with Bose, Sennheiser or any of the other midrange cans I'm able to audition in my town.
if you want bass in your headphones ,you must buy an amplifier , and according to me you should buy an amplifier with these cans , the sound quality improves by a huge margin with an amplifier ,especially if you are using it with a mobile , you will notice a huge difference in sound quality , i am using ath m-50x for over three years and i personally feel that ath m50x doesn't sound that good without amplifier , you can buy fiio portable amplifier which cost around 2000 but believe me its worth buying , it will change your sound experience to a whole new level
Hi Ranjit.. Great video and helpful indeed! Would you recommend them for casual use with mobile (iphones or any other high-end smartphone) perhaps? I understand that the sound is in its pure form, so no heave bass etc. but is it loud enough to be carried while traveling in Metro or crowded bazaar? Please advise. Thanks in advance..
i recently bought the sony h.ear on's(100-aap) the wired versions of the sony h.ear on's(100-ABN) i gotta say the h.ear o performs better than the both audio technica m50-m40 x i heard all the three headphones personally and bougt the h.ear on they sound very flat flat and have awesome comfort ,althoug they dont isolate the sound as much as the m50 or 40 but still somewhat 20% less isolation the bass in m50 is more than h.ear on, and the sound distorts in m40x in some flac files, and i got h.ear on for 8k instead of 13k which was a good deal i feel , although i got the m-50x for 7k in flipkart but h.ear on looks awesome the comfort is much much better i personally used it for 8 straight hours watching movies no discomfort . and this is true even jonathan morrison , dave2d and karl conrad has reviews on these :)
M50x easily the best headphone..i have it & using it over 2 years.. still it is an amazing clarity of sounding headphone..you will appreciate it for sure :) it can easily beat all overpriced headphones like typical beats by dre , skullcandy or bose which cost twice of m50x..i'm a audiophile and have this audio related youtube channel & i really love it...its my daily friend actually...love m50x so much :) if you are a music guy like me then go for it..you will like it ..i promise :) ..bye!!
Juan Sebastian Vargas Arismendi honestly just keep the ones you prefer, don't ask which is better when you have both leaving you with the choice of your own
well done, good review. way better than Z reviews video on this. he was biased towards the m40x. but your video explains that both headphones are good and what the pros and cons of each one are.
ATH M50X Critically acclaimed the best studio headphone under 14k. * Crisp bass * No over coloured midrange and treble sides * Best when it comes to sound mixing & tracking * Premium design If you wanted to enjoy the none coloured audios get this beast. I have been using this almost 1 year. I'm totally pleased with the customer service in Mumbai. ATH M40X I have used from one of my friends. I seriously enjoyed the good quality. When it comes to sound mixing overall bit coloured midrange, For tracking below 150hz bass never felt anything like big bro M50X. If you are not into sound design/ sound engineering, have a budget up to 7000INR for a premium headphone, would like to listen to the song more detail on your smartphone, blindly buy m40x. One more thing: Enjoy listening flac / wav songs... if you are into overcompressed youtube mp3s, never gonna feel the quality.
Thank you for the review. Can you indicate if the m50x pads are more comfortable compared to the m40x? Some users say that the m40x is not comfortable and after two hours of listening to the m40x their ears hurt.
Can you do a detailed comparison of Bose QC35 with M50x? I know both belong to entirely different price segment, and M50x doesn't even have active noise cancellation, but purely from sound quality point of view, which is better between the two? I've personally listened to QC35 and was blown away by its clarity, but haven't tried M50x.
This helped alot! I have hyper x cloud stinger and wanting to change since it's odd having gaming headphones when I'm travelling since it has large microphone. I bought the m40x
Great insight, man. Even tho they are marketed as monitoring, i believe they are good for a all around headphone, M50x would be great because i like a little bit of extra bass and still have that clarity along mids and highs.
HEllo ! thanks for the review! i have the old ones M40 fs and i need a new ones but are discontinued,, oyu think 40x is the most close flat response to 40fs? i nees same flat response like M40fs old ones.. THANKS!
My m40x broke today because I placed it down slightly rough in a wrong angle on my desk and the part that rotates the ear cups snapped so be careful about this. They are fantastic for what you pay but just be careful putting them down on your desk
@@cortex7024 you know it's impossible to get the capsule for the headphone and I need just one of the drivers for repairing my headphone so let me buy it from you. And realistically you can't fix it and it's going to rot in the corner, just think realistically
I bought *M50x* over a year ago with my first salary :D :D.., and im surprised that they are still costing the same.. you should be doing a comparison between the more recent *M70x* and *M50x* btw.
Glad to know someone from India writing reviews of these. M50 (not X) combined with Fiio E10 (not K) is heveanly combo. M50x is too flat and boring. Edit- January 7th 2019. I bought the m40x. Flipkart.
For Indians this is high end? For audiophiles it's just mid range or beginner headphones. Not spoilt just did my research, there's so many real high end stuff like Sennheisser HD600s, they are proper high end headphones. But high end, high impedance headphones will require Amplifiers just to run em with good volume and a DAC for that extra cherry on top.
Hi Ranjit, i have recently bought a pair of M50x from Amazon based on the reviews that i heard that they are the best over the ear budget headphones. But to my suprise i found that there was almost no base produced by these headphones. I tried listening to all types of music on different phones like Redmi 2 and Note 3, but the base was still missing. Also i noticed that the audio heard from youtube videos contained more bass than the normal nusic player. Sound quality was good and the audio was crisp as well.Built quality was premium as well. So are the drivers so big that they need an amplifier to get the best of these headphones?? Or do they need a different type of audio format??
Download the app called Equalizer and Bass Booster by KX app Team on play store. It will boost the bass and you will fall in love with the 50X. if you still want more, buy the FiiO A3 and you can feel the headphones thumping against your face !
*Nobody* listens to music without _some_ kind of EQ/sound processing, even on a phone. So the right way to think about studio cans is not 'how do they sound' but rather 'what are they *capable* of' . I have both - yes out of the box the M50x is slightly, but noticeably heavier in sub bass, but that's about all after a few hours burn in. Both have the same power handling, and virtually identical specs. So guess what - you can simply EQ either one into anything you like, including within 97% of each other. M40x can slam your ears as hard as you like, just bring the bass up - it can handle it. Personally, for just music, movies, M50x is my choice, 5mm bigger driver is just more fun out the box. Plus, imho the M50x feels beefier constructed. M40x had an awful hinge flaw, they all cracked, but AT fixed the design in 2016.I'm not sure if all the older ones like mine are off the market - had to break out the gorilla glue.
1 request from you Sir. Please make a video on How We Indians celebrate Diwali, to make foreigner excited about it and to make them know about our beautiful festival of lights! I would also do the same but this tym i m having only 200+ indian subs whereas your subs are around 5 lakh which includes many foreigners too.
