Huge Audiophile Collection!
We have just purchased one of the largest audiophile collections we’ve seen in many years consisting of over 400 records and 300 CDs/SACDs.
For those unfamiliar with the term, “audiophile” records are known as much for their sonic qualities as for their performances. They are made with more care than standard issues and usually in smaller batches. They are often manufactured using all-tube recording equipment on high-quality heavy virgin vinyl, and are sometimes made direct-to-disc, or at 45 rpm to replicate the original sound more closely.
The vinyl portion of this collection contains a wide variety of labels, mostly from the 2000’s. It is very heavy on titles from Classic Records including the boxed Clarity series, 200 & 180 gram pressings, and six or so boxed, numbered, test pressings, most notably Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” which was never officially issued.
Some of the other premier labels include Analogue Productions, ORG, Pure Audiophile, Acony, Quality Record Pressings, Wilson, Fone, Groove Note, Mobile Fidelity (quite a few “One-Steps”), Alto, Impex, The Electric Recording Co. (extremely rare, and expensive, only 300 made of each), Water Lily, Super Sense (direct to acetate!), Acoustech, Analogue Experience, and many more.
Many of these titles are from very small runs (usually numbered), so very scarce, and quite a few from this collection are autographed by the artists. Prices range from $10 up to $400 or so.
The audiophile discs are mostly “hybrid” meaning they can be played on regular CD players, or SACD players for higher fidelity. There are around 200 of those in this collection. We also have 80 or so of the sought-after SACDs (Super Audio CDs) which can only be played on an SACD player. This format was established around 2000 to improve on CD quality. While it never reached mass acceptance, it remains a favorite of dedicated fans. There are also handfuls of quality CDs on Mobile Fidelity, some Japanese audiophile discs, and other nice pieces.
The titles are mostly classic rock, jazz, and classical. Prices range from $10 to $100
