Unrelated but Elizabeth Henstridge from Agents Of SHIELD also has a youtube channel and she’s been doing very interesting videos on How she got into acting! 😂😌
This is refreshing. You never hear about these kind of stories. It's also inspiring because it shows that dedication pays off. Chase your dreams and don;t give up.
You hear this kind of thing a lot from voice actors, but it's really nice to also hear from a screen actor, especially one who has had some big successes recently.
Same, for example; I've never danced or sang in front of people before because I get embarrassed so easily, the thought of acting in front of people literally makes my skin crawl.
finally!! an actress who finally breaks down the process of auditioning, as for someone who’s really interested in becoming an actor, this has helped tremendously, thank you :)
Knowing that someone successful has still had to fail 98% of the time is honestly so refreshing to hear... I’m not an actress, but this was still nice to hear. Thanks for sharing Brie 💕
I genuinely appreciated seeing this video. It’s truly remarkable to see someone who has achieved so much, to actually hear the process she went to get to where she is now. It truly humanizes her. Because all I see is her being Captain Marvel. She’s so down to her, it just encourages me to smile in my own process for whatever I do in life. It’s really a journey that everyone goes through and it’s honestly just doing the journey and simply enjoying the process. It took her a lot of time. I seriously love her to bits :)
Martín Nelli everyone only likes to focus on the success, when in fact for every success there’s double the failure. Brie said 90% of her auditions were turned down? I would have quit
Orange Jinjo also, she has 363k subscribers. You have 0 so if I were you, I’d be quiet. Okay, little boy? Don’t bother arguing with me because you’re wrong anyway. It’s pretty much pointless. Stay mad ❤️ EDIT: 380k subscribers and she’s doing better than ever.
@Lando Calrissian sure but she only got where she is now because she didn’t stop auditioning after she was rejected hundreds of times. That’s what I basically meant anyways. Someone else could’ve been captain marvel if she had stopped chasing her dreams
One time I showed up to an audition. Right as I was about to read the casting director goes “we actually already cast it, but you can still read if you want”. I drove an hour for that audition.
I always knew the audition process was difficult cuz actors always talk about it. But i never thought it was this brutal. You really need to have the right emotions for it
I love hearing real and raw stories from Brie Larson because she’s actually a super accomplished actress with great success and has the credibility to speak on these matters.
It’s nice to have an actor on RU-vid talk about these things that only actors can talk about. Brie *does* contribute to the RU-vid community and provides us with information like this so I really don’t understand the hate. I hope your channel continues to grow Brie
The hate comes from misogynistic straight males who are triggered at Brie for speaking out about women's issues. They are not someone whose opinion should be taken seriously.
Being an actor myself and having auditioned before, I completely understand her, honestly. It’s weird, because most of the time you’ll have an idea of who you want to be cast as, and then whenever you don’t get cast as it, you’re kind of sad, but you move on.
i love this, she's literally an oscar winner doing youtube videos for us showing her point of view. There will always be people who are gonna hate never give up!
I would love to hear you talk about how Short Term 12 impacted your career, since that was the movie that helped you get the role in Room, the audition process for Captain Marvel (if you can), what it was like directing a movie, your favorite movies and shows, and how you deal with criticism (I love the star wall by the way, 15/10)

I am also extremely curious about her auditions for 'Captain Marvel'.
My favorite video so far! This proves that you should never give up PERIOD! P.s. it’s so refreshing seeing my favorite actor as a youtuber, we literally feel like we’re getting to know YOU! We have to stan even more!
@Matthew Matt imagine being that ignorant. you people really struggle with comprehension do ya? "eradicate men" 😂😂😂 the haters are so exaggerated and blind
this channel has honestly made me really like this side of Brie. it’s super comforting & refreshing to see such a personal side of someone considered such a huge star in the film industry. this video specifically is just so great & relatable, auditions are such a stressful & scary process, it’s nice to know she still feels those emotions, even as an oscar winner! love you Brie💛never change.
Clarke was the bigger star at the time. Her features look similar to Hamiltons so they were most likely going with her. But if brie got it, she wouldn't have got room and t5 would have been 1 and done. She got lucky.
I thought genesys had a great concept they just executed it poorly. It was too much like t3. Setting it back in 84 and john connor no longer needs to be the hero was great. But performance issues... y'know...
he never was. he was a little slave to iron man who cannot match a wolf spider if it was able to reject a stupid suit controlled by a drunk driver billionaire.
Is hard to be an introvert specially if you choose to present yourself a certain way externally or if you choose a profession perceived to be for extroverts. Sometimes people think you are rude, difficult or that you think to much of yourself when in reality is the complete opposite and you question yourself and rather not interact because we are scared. I’m glad you give yourself this opportunity
I'm so sorry you had to deal with those misogynistic men making desperate people dress up for their fantasies that is not ok and we need to change this. I love how you talked about your failures too. You are such a humble person and I love your videos.
I mean yeah there were times that you wouldn't liked her and i do have some issues about her but seriously tho, she's way overhated till now, people need to move on already. She doesn't deserved the hate she got till now. The issue that people have about her, okay move on now there's nothing to be offended by it nowadays. I love how humble and charming she is in the video.....She's such a talented actress
mogarr feng lmao don’t you have anything else to do than spam that over edited video to everyone being positive? guess she’s just living in your mind rent free
Wow, this side of you just made me admire you more! The fact that you went through all this, yet you never gave up, that goes to show how strong you are! I really am your biggest fan!!
Failure and mistakes are part of life, we all encounter obstacles in our way. But if we never give up and never surrender, anything is possible. If you can dream it, you can do it
@@coffeebro287 didn't know that the requirement for critiquing an actor who decides to act in front a public requires the public to first act in movies. Hmmm!!! I guess then the only people who have done acting should go to watch movies since only they can understand the actor and savor his work!!!!
Read a little bit about the Room production and you can see why it was such a perfect fit for her. So different from the process she's describing here, and consciously avoiding many of the exploitative aspects of Hollywood that she clearly dislikes.
Dylan 13 ( after checking IMDB) Looks like a pile of poo. And I’m guessing they didn’t want a real, hard life prostitute but a manic pixie dream prostitute. Glad you missed this. And I would love to see your scary audition reel on that one. 😁
i don't know if i should feel like "oh if she was rejected that many times, i should keep going..." or "if SHE was rejected that many times, imagine ME..."
A few years back I told my friends that you were going to hit it big before you hit it big. You were so smart in your choices, putting in the work, learning, and getting better and better and better, starting small and building upward. To see your personality now, makes me appreciate you even more. As an actor myself, I can say that these videos are hugely helpful, genuine and considerate. Thanks for giving people such valuable insight.
Quality video. Everyone loves to think celebrities all lived some cushy lives and never faced adversity, but the truth is that the vast majority started from scratch. Only a privileged few start with everything.
As someone who struggled with social anxiety my whole life, the rejection would have paralyzed me at my teen and early twenties. You are so strong and inspiring. I also loved how honest and open you were in this video. I never looked at acting this way before.
i’ll never understand how some people don’t like brie. she’s out there being the most down to earth hollywood actress, encouraging people to follow their dreams, sharing her own struggles so people feel better about their failures, trying to build a more inclusive industry and on top of that she’s an amazing actress. come on
@@LiamCowling 99% sure it was drive angry with amber heard and nicolas cage. there was some really weird love interest stuff in that movie between heard and cage (22 years apart, heard was 24 at the time) and the female lead costume was pretty close to what she mentioned being asked to wear.
All of them are fandom menace incels. (I was in the fandom menace for a while, and all of them have a huuuuge hard on for Brie, especially geeks and gamers and his viewers)
imagine having so much free time that you go to the comments section of a woman you hate just to reply to everyone who likes her lmao and in doing so they’re just getting her more views and interactions
I honestly dont see the hate around Brie, she seems lovely and the fact that she has made a channel and she is showning her own personality is really nice and ive always wondered about auditions so thanks Brie
It has to do with her politics and and mentality. People tend to get really emotional about politics. Personally, I don't hate her, but some of the things she has said were really dumb and just illogical, so I can understand why people got pissed off.
I think it had to do with what people interpreted as a hardline feminist, social justice warrior kind of attitude, especially in interviews. Social justice is important to Brie, but I think that sometimes she came across as cold, or aggressive, reserved, or even a little "high and mighty". I have always reserved judgment because we really don't know her or any other public figure. An interview or an article is a very particular medium which does not capture the same depth and breadth of a person's personality, frequently by design. I think the bottom line is that, whether it was by her choice or a consequence of her personality through the public media, perhaps Brie came across as unrelatable to some people and being unrelatable makes it easy to criticize someone. Brie even said so herself that part of the reason for starting the RU-vid channel was because previously she had held certain ideas about what was an acceptable amount of "herself" to share and be open about with the world and she is challenging herself now to try to be more accessible and vulnerable.
@@ryee86 But doesn't her telling about some of the experiences she has had during auditions explain her "attitudes" pertaining to those subjects? Most of the people who have criticized her for them only want to base them on stereotypes and probably would not accept anything that contradicted their already formed opinions, they just wanted someone to hate for those stereotypes
I'm not an actor at all, but did theatre in high school and a bit in college. The biggest takeaway was from my high school theatre teacher that told us that we would have to get used to hearing "No" more than "Yes". That feeling of rejection doesn't only apply to acting but to other parts of life so it's helped a lot.
@@zacknguyen7128 Again, all sponsorship in hopes to appeal to the enterprise in order to be cast as Samus Aran. Not a gamer, just looking for a cash grab, which you've fallen for. Sad.
Brie Larson I want to personally apologize to you. I heard a lot of negative things about you and heard that were really rude and for a short time I believed it but then I saw you on Hot ones and I thought you seemed like a cool person and ever since then I subscribed to your youtube channel and watched your videos and I can say without a doubt that you are absolutely awesome. I wish nothing but success for the future and I am glad you are Captain Marvel!
little hint here: in her first video, she said she dont know how to play with the cameras which is not true 23years of acting doesnt teach her how to handle the cameras ? then when asked whats her favorite game, she said Nintendo . there are two types of people, one for those who play video games and one for who doesnt. Its very easy to tell who plays and who doesnto, guys like henry cavill and jack black do love games because they talked about games in public and gals like larrson ?i dont think so, no gamers gets to answer ps4 or xbox when asked whats your favorite game
@@lawrencem-yuen2376 Hmm. that second sentence turned into a run on paragraph. Your opinion is formed out of misinterpretation and its also kinda weird
LAWrence M-Yuen Little hint on the incel here: 1. Gate keeping video games. That’s lame. Stop it or admit your irrationality 2. Holding AN ACTOR to a high standard that encompasses any area of film. Film nerds and acting nerds aren’t the same nerds It’s the difference between techies and sales. They MIGHT be able to do both. It would be optimal to care for both. But often they don’t intersect... like at all
@@digby5267 my point is she said she loved video games and when asked what game she likes most she literally had no answer which implicts that she lied about video games,. The fact that she said she loved video games might very likely just to make us feel like she is just like everyone of us. AND in her first video there are FOUR camera angels !!! in it and still she said she DIDN'T know about how to set up microphone on the camera which obviously isn't true. IN her third video she said " IM A WHITE WOMAN WHIT A PRIVELIGE" . ALL i wanna say is , either is she too stupid to know how to talk or she is just that kind of a RANDOMLY (U KNOW WHAT IT IS) gal.
Really disturbing part about "dressing a certain way". Especially the Hollywood producers/directors/etc having a fetish for jean miniskirts. What can I say but... YIKES!
and if you think about it, how many of those roles actually had the character in a jean miniskirt?? maybe in the 90s but other than that? definitely YIKES
As an artist I can appreciate this. I'm so glad you made this video. A lot of people don't understand the work that goes on behind the scenes. The ones that have success had to work for it. It just doesn't get handed to you.
I love that you describe how all the auditioning led to you finding yourself and your artistic sensibility, which could hardly culminate better than your coming to be perfectly cast in Room, a performance worthy of a lifetime though i'm sure similarly great things are yet to come.
My God, this woman inspire me so much. I'm not an actor, but everyone, at any carrier have rejections. Life it's not pretty all the time. She is the first actor, that I have seen, who is speaking so open about this. Thanks brie 💜🥺
@@RB-pb5kb my point here isn't if she is attractive or not. My point it's that she made the choice of exposing bad moments before she had success. We live in a world that success it's everything. No one likes to expose their failures. A lots of people, specially actors, just tell us how successful they are. A young girl that its passing through the same rough time right now, will feel listening with this video. Life it's not pretty all the time, and that's ok. We can be rejected one million times, but one day everything can change ☺
Thank you for sharing this Brie! I have always wished more actors talked more about the auditioning process and all the roles they didn't get - it helps me feel less of a failure and reminds me that this is just apart of the journey of being an actor! Love you!! xxx
Admittedly, I've only seen her in, Scott Pilgrim, and Captain Marvel, and then the trolls happened. And THEN I saw Short Term 12, and I was like......"now I'm a fan" 👍
April Cummings As interesting as that would be, might be a bad saying what you didn’t like about some movies because it may burn bridges that could be helpful in the future
@@ravenfrancis1476 You would be sadly mistaken. Most directors can't take criticism and especially if it's from an actor. Most of the time, the actors sole job is to tell the story the director wants to tell. Nothing else. So critiquing, even constructive, could be seen as hard to work with and a lot of directors know each other and word gets around fast
@@kellyalves756 that cow did not care it was in her way it was just living freely and munching on grass and other things like hay if they are feed hay within India.
When narcissistic Lefty celebs go around calling sects of our population 'racist' to fulfill hateful Political narratives then they should expect resentment to come back their way. White poverty where I live is horrific and bad enough without entitled 'out of touch' Marxist Elites like her always running them down. If you cannot see 'how this may be very offensive then I feel very sorry for you'. Larson should do the next best right thing and apologize for such insensitive commentary.
I loved that you mentioned how directors often have no clue what they want or what their directions even mean. Most of the time you gotta just bring what they themselves didn't even know they wanted.
It is rather remarkable that an award winning actress and an International movie star with a $1B box office can act in a professionally produced, scripted and edited video.
Salkafar It doesn’t look like it was Kate Leth either. Maybe time to cop to the fact that a subculture of men on the internet is whipping themselves into frenzy over invented female oppression
This is really awesome! I really want to become an actress and star in many things but I tend to have lots of doubts because I'm not traditionally trained and always fear that I will not be able to achieve my dream. But hearing Brie, an Oscar-winning actress and also Captain Marvel, talk about her failures and her rejections, makes me more hopeful and believe in myself more! So thanks Brie!
+concretegiraffs An advice, study to be a film director, that way you have the mind of filmmakers, who is going to cast actors for characters, and know what type of acting are they are looking for. Even if you never direct, perspective is gold.
How do ppl not like Brie she’s so sweet Edit: Jesus Christ I started a war in the comments section Edit 2: there is a really stupid person in the replies down there God
It's the times we live in. It seems to be the in thing to hate on something/anything, and with no real reason. I think Brie is brilliant. Love her stuff and her personality just projects good feel factor 😀
i feel like the internet loved to hate this woman. what a smart move for her to make this channel and prove haters wrong. props to her for facing scrutiny head on with class and vulnerability
yup.. internets full of hate and opinion, but it's ok. she's a strong minded woman that maybe a lot of folks cant handle. we all don't have to agree with her ideas/opinion, nor do we all have to like her.. however its not ok to flame folks that do agree or like her. my 2c fwiw :D
@Battlefront Gaming and most of them are singers who's work runs through RU-vid or actors with 8 yr old channels. Stop bitching and hating and find a job
@Battlefront Gaming To be fair, she doesn't seem to advertise nor is she all over social media like other mainstream celebs and people like Skai Jackson appeal to a whole other demographic. I literally clicked on one of her vids and for weeks YT recommended nothing but hate videos about her that's how pervasive the hate is. And its all because of a single statement she made which a certain demographic ran with to the point of obsession. Meanwhile, people like PewDie Pie have said and continue to say things 100x worse and those same people will defend them to the death, which is hypocrisy at its finest. I like Brie, she's awkward, introverted, and opinionated in the same way as I am and seems genuine in her desire to help others which is more than I can say for the people that hate on her. Even if she does only have 400k subscribers she's doing more good than most on YT do with millions.
What is auditioning? 'A job within its self, that doesn't pay'. Truer words can never be spoken. Thank you Brie Larson for saying that. That also applies to a lot of other jobs as well.
This is so comforting to hear!! I've been acting since I was 7 years-old (now I'm 20) and while I've had successes, lately there hasn't been any. lately. The industry is full of ups and downs and it's so good to hear that from such an established actress, like you. THANK YOU!!
+jason eric testa Yeah, actors have to fall in love with the process, love losing, love the climb more than success. If Brie had 99% failures, then losing is the thing one has to get comfortable at. The Rocky Balboa style.
