Django Reinhardt/Stéphane Grappelli: Minor Swing arranged by Alastair Eng Augustin Hadelich, violin Mak Grgić, guitar Recorded in May 2020 www.makgrgic.com
I did not believe a Jazz violin legend can be made overnight; but "NOW I DO!" You play it like you've been a Jazz violinist your entire life. Great duet... SOOTHING... It has a wonderful calming effect on me.
From what one of my teachers who studied w szeryng said szeryng was a very open minded guy and he could see that Augustin was making good music. Even me as an anti pop or anything classical person, I quite enjoy this.
I enjoy the new generation of classical musicians who show great integrity & respect for all genres of music. Historically, most legit players always seemed to approach popular 20th century styles condescendingly as if they were ‘slumming’ it in order to play non-classical stuff. Hadelich’s feeling, love & artistry in every style he presents is truly heart warming. Thank you maestro!
Wow! That is the best Grapelli I've ever heard, after Grapelli, of course. Awesome collaboration! Please make an album together. This is the first thing I want to play for my friends when they can come over for some wine.
I CANNOT with this serve sir you are killing me. The swing? The way you play the violin like it's a ukulele? The black and white edit? The vest?! UGH. Obsessed!
Love it when the great musicians I adore also play other styles than just classical. I always think it is proof of being a true musician. And thnx for the introduction to Mak Grgic, what a wonderful guitarist!
How incredibly moving to hear this. Django and Augustin, both tested by a trial of fire, emerging like Phoenixes, to reach the artistic pinnacle of their respective musical genres. Kindred spirits of genius in so many ways. Reinhardt played violin (Romani style) before taking up the guitar and discovering jazz.
Love how contrast your gestures are 😂 While Mak seems so stoic with his deadpan face, Augustin looks so playful and perky. Btw, love the vest too, Augustin! Been watching it a lot for a couple of days. It brightens my days. Thank you so very much, both of you. 🌺 🌺 _(:3」z)_
Many Classical violinist who I've heard playing Gypsy jazz or even fiddle music at way too stiff and square in their articulation. Hadelich is by far the exception with a nice rounded swing feel, great job! Hope to hear more outside the classical domain.
There is actually a lot written and recorded for guitar and violin (although you might have to hunt it all down). The two instruments compliment each other.
Love it! Maybe I missed it, but it would be great to have a video about how playing more swinging music has affected you're technique and phrasing across your repertoire. And if you prefer different bows or instruments for such.
