Just to show how out of touch I am I didn't even know that!!! I just thought when I first seen this episode that this was her first time ever dancing. With that long lasting feud with her and Smith I never checked her backstory. Thanks for this new found info on me!
@fgjsdfgjkl Good lord...my cell phone acted as if it wouldn't allow me to comment so you can imagine how many times my frustrated self hit the reply icon. Truly sorry for that.
Dang. Went and rewatched the instructor, he even used his hands to hold his body up! I bet Janet choreographed the whole routine! I do wonder if she wrote any of it too. Will Smith ain’t shit.
Quite frankly I said who the hell is that? That sure ‘ain’t’ Auntie Viv!!! 🤦♀️I watched as an ex dancer myself-FN FLAWLESS 🔥🌟🔥I remember seeing it back when it was good!🙏🏻❤️🤔
@@squidport_yeah no that’s bullshit, if you actually did your research on this you’d know that the ENTIRE CAST couldn’t stand her. She was rude to anyone who made contact with her on set and she was JEALOUS of will even AFTER HE COMPLIMENTED HER on her acting. Where in the fuck do you hear that will was a bad person? Maybe so your own research instead of jumping on the will smith bandwagon
I agree. She should of been offered a show of her own since she wasn't wanted there anymore. I loved her as Aunt Vivian. They messed up when they didn't treat her right. I can see why she was a singer and dancer in the theatre play CATS and later on became a headliner.
I loved her in this series. Nothing so beautiful as a strong vibrant woman who knows how to command attention. She killed it in this scene and you can tell by her movements that she has ballet training
Janet Hubert was a Julliard-trained dancer and singer who began her performing career on Broadway, originating in the role of Tantomile in Cats in 1982. Aunt Viv owned this!
Aunt Viv killed it. She was better than ALL of her younger competitors!! Btw, the dance instructor did that whole routine without getting out of breath!! Kudos to him!!
I will never forget this scene. Always was such a thrill to see her knock it out! Her character had so much to offer this show before recasting. Let’s not forget that smile!! She is having so much fun!! Love this.
Part of what makes this for me is hearing the audience get more and more excited with every move she perfectly executes. They're like, "Ooooh. Wooow! Whaaaat???? Yeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!" And she fed off all that energy.
And wil killed her OFF No more Viv killing it She became..... Just an extra Passing through like a pedestrian passing the News anchor in the high street waving to the camera Yeah will killed someone who shone brighter than him Envy ( jealousy ) pride ( ego ) and greed Couldn't stand anyone else getting the limelight the big lemon
Bro I immediately seen that and when I see stuff like that it gives me chills bro!!!! There is a young latina salsa dancer named sophia I believe, she shows the same vibes betore she starts and its soo captivating.
The wardrobe designers knew exactly what they were doing dressing Janet, she looks like a queen. The hair looks like a crown, plus the gold earrings make her look regal.
The 1st Viv, had strong stage presence amongst the rest of the cast members. Especially Will, who was the main character of the show. Plus you can tell she had a very strong acting experience and she also wasn’t a “Yes person” not one to be pushed around. I get the impression from her interviews that she is a professional actress and who brought her “A” game on set and if some young unprofessional kid comes along. She don’t have time for silly stuff.
Beautiful woman, this show was never the same without u... I utterly lost interest after u were gone... U will always be in the pantheon of great tv moms (and aunties).. much love to Miss Janet Hubert, the REAL Aunt Viv❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I don't know whether Daphne Maxwell-Reid had any previous dance training or not. But Janet Huber danced on Broadway in Cats, which gave her a decided advantage.
@@TheSimmpleTruth The use here of the expression "light-skinned Aunt Viv" was to differentiate between the two actors, it was not meant to suggest that there was a "colorism" issue.
@@CP-pe9ul Yeah, right. 🙄 A simple “the actress that replaced her” or the “other Aunt Viv” would’ve gotten the point across. No need to bring up that one African American actress had “lighter skin,”therefore, could not have danced so well. Talk about judging someone’s abilities by the color of their skin. 😖
The whole scene is great - but the ending when she walks out of the room with her head held high - and then just collapses on the floor makes it perfect 🤣
It’s my second fave! The one where Carlton and Will get arrested for the “stolen” car? And she was about to fight the cops? I LOVED that. Uncle Phil saved some lives that night!!
@@playfulpanthressI was just about to reply the same thing! My roommate and I used to pretend to take our earrings off and say “Oh, it’s about to get busy up in here!”
One of the best part of the serie, because everytime we saw her like a normal aunt, and she surprise us with this amazing dance skill, that anyone didn't know she had hidden. Amazing!
This will always be one of the greatest moments in TV history and to think it almost never happened because the show runner at the time didn’t wanna show Vivian as anything but a stern mother and not one with passions and range.
This show will always have a special place in my heart. It started around the time my dad left for the Gulf War and I remember it being one of the few things that could make my mom laugh during that time, she was so worried about my dad. I was only 3, but I fell in love with the characters too and Aunt Viv was my favorite. Thank you Janet Huber for giving us such an awesome character to love!
I remember watching this episode when it first aired. The next day when I went back to high school everybody couldn't stop talking about this dance routine! Aunt Viv worked it!!!!
She turned it out. Beautiful poetry in motion. One of my favorite episodes!! Many may not know this but Aunt Viv was a professional dancer, so this role was easy for her. She Nailed it!!
I have the biggest smile on my face right now!! Took me back to my childhood in that very moment!! So refreshing and now that Im 40 I can definitely relate… Hands down one of TVs best moments.. Now that’s black history!! We love u Aunt Viv💐❤️💐❤️
Yes it sure was!💯👏My favorite part!💜Aunt Viv ate those dance moves up fr! Those haters didn't know what to do, but just to stand there and look stupid!😂
@@lizmccarthy-edwards2115 no it was because the original Aunt Viv was pregnant and they couldn't hide it anymore so she went to have her baby, and some executive decided to just move on instead of waiting for her to come back and invented a new role for the new Aunt Viv, which was (of all things) having a baby and being a stay at home mom instead. Big mistake
This is one of my favorite scenes! But 1:52 is hands down one of my favorite moments ever! Janet Hubert was, is, and will always be the original Aunt Viv.
Oh god I only found out about this now, and I was freaking out how i couldn't have noticed they changed actresses, then after some research saw it was only for the last season. Jeeezz I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, thinking they recast her in like.. season 4 or something
I had an audition just like this once. I am not a dancer but thought I was auditioning for the chorus. The director/choreographer ran through a complicated routine and yelled, "first four" and pointed to ME way in a corner. Everyone was in leg warmers etc but me. And it was TAP DANCING! I got up there and tried to remember every Nicholas Brothers movie I had ever seen and it worked! Don't ask me how but the director was thrilled and told everyone to "do it like him"! I ended up getting a huge part - dancing - but I was terrified every time the curtain went up. In fact , it was only after the audition that I went and bought tap shoes.
Listen to the audience's reaction, they had NO IDEA 😅 Also, look at how Janice doesn't need to support her lower back in the final pose. Her core strength must be phenomenal 😮
WOW, IT'S SO OBVIOUS THAT AUNT VIV IS TECHNICALLY TRAINED IN ( BALLET, JAZZ, MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL DANCE ). HER LINES, EXTENSIONS ETC. ARE ALL THERE. FOR ME, AS A ( FORMER PROFESSIONAL DANCER FOR OVER 40 YEARS ), I ENJOYED SEEING HER DANCE WITH STYLE, GREAT TECHNIQUE & CLASS. WELL DONE, AUNT VIV!!!!!!!!! *THE DUANE GEORGE MUSIC PROJECT* ( SEATTLE, WASHINGTON )
