Oh how Rosalind Russell deserved an Oscar for this impeccable performance. Though it's not possible, no one should do this role again. If you've seen this Mame, that's all you ever need to see. No one could improve on this, except maybe God Himself. What a tour de force! What talent!
@edwardjames50

But you *can't* take that Oscar away from Susan Hayward! The Oscars are absurd.

Ben Wass Those were the days when almost every nominee deserved the Oscar. Today? Hardly anyone deserves one. And of course, Ms. Russell was glad for Ms. Hayward. She was also gracious. Susan Hayward deserved the win. Plus, they WRONGLY always go for a dramatic performance over a comedic performance. That's not right.

WHUTS THAT???!!!! LOL And its Bunny Bixler, not Bixby. Also its Muriel Puce, not puse. Interesting when you consider that puce is actually the name of a color. An AWFUL color which is kind of a brownish purple. On the order of fuchsia, only darker.
@200991602
@200991602 Год назад
Exactly , those names are extremely wasp-ish. My family and I knew people like the Upsons when I was a teen, only for business, my father tolerated them for business only and made comments to them kind of off the wall . They were left dumbfounded , they did not get my dad's dry sense of humor . Instead of a Glory they had a Shelleigh yes that spelling , the girl talked constantly about how much money she had , it was so boring!

How Rosalind Russell didn't win an academy award for best actress in this movie is beyond me, and something of a tragedy. Though I read an interview she did in the early 1970s where Russell herself didn't think it was her best performance. Go figure.

Loved this book so much as a kid. When I was in school I remember sitting in a class reading this book when I was supposed to be doing something else. I read something that cracked me up and I burst out laughing. My teacher walked back to my desk with a very annoyed look on her face to see what I was laughing at. She picked up the book, saw it was AUNTIE MAME and said....."carry on.' She gave me a smile and walked back to her desk. I will never forget that moment. So glad you liked it too! BEST WISHES
