Gonna say it now, everyone saying Catti-Brie is bad... You're idiots. Here's the breakdown: 2/2 First strike, reach for WG. Already solid on stats alone, considering people have slotted worse in certain decks. Then, she has "Whenever Catti-Brie attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on her for each equipment attached to her". So a first striker with an equipment on her that gets bigger on attack is bad/doesn't synergize with the deck, but Brainstone is a must-have? Lastly, she has "1, remove all +1/+1 counters from Catti-Brie: Catti-Brie deals X damage to target attacking or blocking creature, where X is the number of counters removed this way". Just as a hypothetical, not hard to pull off scenario, say we attach three equipment to Cattie-Brie, each of which provide +1/0 minimum. She swings, and already that's an 8/5 first striker. Next turn, we attach, say, one more equipment, and assume the minimum of +1/0. She swings, and becomes a 13/9 first striker. An opponent swings your way, you can pay 1 to deal 7 damage to their biggest creature you can kill. She dips back to a 6/2, but will jump back up to a 10/6 minimum next turn. If I had a quarter for every time this scenario has happened to me, I'd have a solid 5 dollars, and for those who can't do the math, that's 20 times. Catti-Brie is good. Very good, in fact, as long as you're not doing what the Nitpicking Nerds themselves said was suboptimal and trying to split between Auras and Equipment. Even when you're splitting focus, she still is a very good card all on her own. Put simply, you're sleeping on her. And that is just ONE gripe I have with this video, not to mention their insistence on taking removal and protection out of the deck in favor of the usual draw and ramp which the deck ALREADY DOES. That said, I guess big numbers go brrr, and nobody wants to play the way Bant plays; patient and defensive. TL;DR Catti-Brie's good, and you can't win with big numbers alone. Play smarter, and remember that most decks win through a combination of defense, removal, and counterplay. If all you have is big bodies, draw, and ramp you'll be blind-sided by things like Realm-Cloaked Giant wiping your board and forcing you to rebuild. The more rigid the steel, the more brittle it becomes, while flexible steel will bend without breaking.
@@TheDisccity yikes. That’s an awful mindset. Yeah I buy expensive cards but I buy them to play with, and then maybe sell somewhere down the line. Why are you watching budget deck techs if you’re a whale investor
Have fun pretending to be a cool Wall Street investor with a real job. Shockingly, most play the game for fun. Buy actual good investments if you want to make money, not scrounging cards for petty cash
When you run out of precons, you could just start making budget commander deck videos. Maybe let polls pick the commander? Then whip up a deck on a precon upgrade budget, 85-90 bucks?
I think it's a good idea but I think watching these give some great ideas for original builds as is. You can lead all of these into different commanders easily.
That look on Joe's face. Priceless. Internal monologue; "but, but, you, just, just...said? Must... hold... in... calling him on it" You could actually see the moment his internal monologue let it go! My gosh that was funny!!!
Great suggestions! Two amazing auras for Galea that weren't included in the updates are Shield of the Oversoul (+2/+2, flying and indestructible) and Steel of the Godhead (+2/+2, lifelink and ublockable).
I watched this after I made changes to my Galea deck…I’m happy to know I’ve made about 90% of these changes and thank you guys for the help with the remaining 10%
Hey Joe and Beezy! I love your videos! I found them a while back when I was trying to determine what cards from strixhaven were worth buying, and I've learnt so much more than I thought possible about proper deck building in the commander format because of you! I even bought the Planar Portals commander deck recently, and upgraded it per your suggestions, because I already had about half the cards already! I hope you keep pumping out these quality vids, and you'll definitely be the first people I recommend to all my friends who I'm trying to get into the format :D
A really nice card for this list is Finest Hour. It’s a bant enchantment with exalted that gives you an extra combat if a creature you control attacks alone. And it’s under $1. The card is insane
I actually think belt of giant strenght is underrated. I'm not saying it's "completely insane!" but, in equip/aura decks it will perform, imo on a level close to blackblade reforged. Just my personal opinion though.
Halvar, God of Battle is so good in this deck, you could equip sword of realms to Galea so u can skip commander cost or giving all creatures enchanted or equiped double strike & being able to move around aura's & equipments on each combat soo good.
Yeeeah this is the one I was waiting for! Great suggestions, I'll build my deck keeping in mind everything you said, thanks guys! If I can add a card to your list, that's Canopy Cover! Protection and evasion on a single card just for 2!
Oh my... so happy to see disclaimer guy back at work Also, do you think straight aura or equipment is a better strategy at $100 budget? I'm thinking straight equipment.
So.....just got to say it feels that 30 to 40 changes makes this closer to a new deck then an upgraded deck. The is only 60 to 65 nonland card in the starting deck.
I just bought this precon at my LGS and went straight to your upgrade video on how to make this better. Would you also consider making "No budget limits" on these precon upgrades? I hear Sensei's Divining Top and some Swords would be great additions to this deck. P.S. Love the new studio, but that yellowish lighting makes you guys look sickly.
Only thing I would say is you have to choose your swords very carefully if you’re keeping more than a few auras. Nothing sucks more than bumping off 1 or more auras on accident for a sword. And as one who slotted in a sensei’s divining top, it is very strong in this deck.
For an equipment deck, would Catti-Brie not find use an easy sniper? Suit her up with deathtouch such as Basilisk Collar or Gorgon's Head, and let her shoot 1 damage in certain directions to knock out creatures? On top of just synergizing with equipment while attacking?
I've already completed my insane adrix and nev deck and I am strongly considering getting this precon as well since i already have most of the mana base.
That edit had me rolling! "No one is going to say "Catti-brie" from this moment on", literally next statement includes "Catti-brie" 😅 Well today I learned Shielded by Faith is going into my Siona deck 🤣 I suggest wearing gloves while working with spray on anything.
And thats why I don't have any swords. Too much self interference. Sinew and steel is the only one I would consider, and it doesn't bring enough in my opinion. Swords would only do well if its a non aura build.
My Galea is a tank with great blades and godly aruas. Btw you mistake how good some of those equipments are. Copying a blade and equipping for free for just 1, incredible when you have a say, nettlecest?
Make Rafiq the commander, add Tuan Ti Malison and you got yourself a deck oh and add that bant enchantment that gives you 2 combat steps and maybe knotvine paladin
I'm new to MTG (picked up this deck 2 days ago) and I'm genuinely wondering why Catti-brie is considered so bad..? It seems like she could gain a lot of stats quickly.
Creatures generally are easy to kill, so in this deck you want a creature that can be unblockable or have some sort of evasion o equipment/aura synergy. She's slow and belongs in another deck.
i think ya'll made a mistake with viridian longbow. this deck comes with 2 of 3 pieces of an infinite combo involved. you jsut need famished paladin, viridian longbow, and basilisk collar and you win.
Uh your hatred of Catti-brie is unwarranted; she's a solid card in the right deck. Voltron her up and she's murdering just about anything. Not the best but worth more respect than given here.
I dont get the argument against the aura that cantrips then recommend another aura that cantrips. You guys are so inconsistent with your comments. Nearly 90% same card. Also you can still get blown out with artifact removal on equipment with the Rune. Next thing. Beezy cuts the graveyard removal so you have no game against graveyard decks if you fall behind. Which is typically also the deck that runs the plaguecrafters. I've watched a lot of your guys videos but you do not get how to build voltron. Flying is way better than it looks.
