In this video I turn a Hybrid Hollow-Form from Burr Elm and epoxy resin, the resin had some cool swirls that reminded me of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)..

Andy: pours blue resin over impossibly knobbly chunk of wood. Me: oh yeah, the shopping can wait! The combination of complex grain and smooth resin swirls, especially blue which I think complements wood better than some colours, tends to produce a geographical map-like or photo-from-space effect. I think the result is a combination of beauty, familiarity and strangeness which has emotional and intellectual appeal.

gotta be honest. my favourite part of the entire Craft process is when you end up covered in the dried Epoxy. looking like Spiderman got you lol. its just always entertaining and the childish part inside me finds it funny. but the end results always come out top. the creativity you have for what many would see as a mere lump of wood is just amazing.

Couple of practical questions- where did you get the button jaw extension holders & is the flooring tile squares. I have a cold garage floor and the flooring looks ideal. The finished piece is once again a work of art.

I've got rubber tile mats, that interlock with each other, in my shed. That works well. B&Q do them, assuming you're in the UK, probably on Amazon as well.

Your work and videos never disappoint! I would love to learn more about your finishing process. What grit do you sand to, what finished do you use, buffing process and compounds, etc. Have you done a video on this? Maybe tough given the fact that you rarely (never?) speak in your videos. Anyway, I’d love your guidance and ability to match your polish!

Thanks ..On timber pieces I sand to around 400 & finish with Danish oil ... on hybrid pieces I sand to around 800 use sanding sealer on the wood & buff up using Menzerna buffing compounds 👍

Would really like to see you making a globe of a planet. Perhaps hollow it out to place a light source inside. Maybe UV for some unique effect? Really cool work. I dig it.

I thought you were going to put a light in through the top of the hollow form so you could light it from within and *really* see the aurora effect from mixing the resins.
