Join me as I return to the far north of #Norway to chase the beautiful spectacle of the Northern Lights.
We battle snow, rain, cloud, moonlight and more than a little despondency to capture nature's beautiful dance from amongst stunning, snow-capped mountains.

I use this channel to share my experiences of being out in the landscape at night photographing the night sky. I want to inspire others to give it a go, and also provide a route for those who can't get out to enjoy some of the experience. You can see more of my work on my website or social channels below:

Epic adventure, and so true you can only have what Mother Nature wants to show you. That’s part of the excitement, never really knowing.

Thank you! 100% - if it kicked off every time, somehow it would be less special. The thrill of the chase. (Although - for full transparency - I DEFINITELY would have preferred it to kick off!). Thanks for watching and the support. 👍

Beautiful photography Paul. That looked an amazing adventure and I so want to do something like that soon. The images from 2023 were wow, I can see why you went back there. This is still something I have never seen but its on the bucket list. Well done mate, clear skies

Thank you Paul. What an amazing s beautiful area to visit and stay. I'm really pleased you managed to get some aurora activity to show your friends and some wonderful pillars. I understand your disappointment in the conditions you had. But hopefully it'll make your friends want to go back again to see the Aurora put on a show as it did for you on 2023. I must try the throwing stones at the cloud thing like you did, as it seemed to work for you to clear the skies 😉. Thank you again Paul.

Stunning drone shots and timelapses! Of course astro images too, goes without a saying. What a landscape... Norway, sea, snow, mountains - that is just perfection in my eyes. BTW, new mic was a great investment. Thanks for this vlog, exactly what I need on this rainy Friday afternoon.

Really enjoyed the journey on this one. I could feel the battle with the clouds and moon. Also, that drone pano at the start was epic!

Great video Paul. Love the white mountain landscape which contrasts so beautifully with the green stuff (when it shows)! Nice to hear the crunch of the snow too. I was lucky to catch the Aurora closer to home recently but I would love to visit Norway for just the scenery (and maybe green ribbons would be nice too). 😀👍

Outstanding video Paul, loved every minute of it. I spent a lot of time in Norway during my time in the oil/gas industry so this brought back some fond memories. Seeing the aurora never gets old, we get some some lovely displays up here in Scotland (although not quite in the same league as northern Norway or Iceland!), last year was particularly good but it's been somewhat quiet in recent months.

Thanks Pete - really appreciate that. Norway really is a beautiful place. I had high hopes for this trip with the amazing UK activity last year, but the universe had other ideas!!

Looks like an amazing trip Paul! So nice you took your whole family there to hopefully see the aurora. Although the landscape itself is stunning I totally felt you on that beach on night 4 😅. Great you got to capture them the last 2 nights. Especially liked that bright pillar on the last night. Also really well done on the amount of video and timelapses you've made. Visually stunning stuff. Not to forget the audio side... what a difference the new mic makes!

Nice adventure Paul and great video. It is perhaps one of the worst Northern Lights seasons, although we are off to the Solar Maximum. It all started out great.. September, October and November were good months and then it died until the beginning of March. Besides this... sooooo many clouds, which prohibits you from seeing the aurora. In comparison: In 2022 I was out 15 Nights in February and this year...4. The intensity of the aurora in 2022 was much better than 2024. Last year I already noticed a decline in the number of nights we could go out shooting the aurora. It is definitely a climate change impact! Although Full Moon illuminates the landscape I am not a big fan of the moon whilst the aurora is out. I prefer New Moon phases. The Aurora Season is coming to an end...soon we have the Midnight sun and we have to wait until September for the new aurora season. Let's hope for a great season!

Thanks Henrik - sorry you've had such a tough season too. It does seem to have picked up again over the last few weeks. I agree the full moon isn't ideal at all, but in this case we could only go on one particular week so we had to take what we could! Would love to get back out under the aurora in dark skies again, though.

Love this Paul, really took us thru the anticipation, highs and lows of aurora chasing. The timelapses from the earlier trip at the end were just spectacular, loved the bokeh effect with the tree branches in the foreground. When were those taken? Wondering if they coincided with the big event we experienced here on 1/12/2023
@nightscapejournals
@nightscapejournals 6 месяцев назад
Thanks, Greg - really appreciated. The timelapses at the end were shot in early April 2023, actually during fairly modest activity - in the polar regions it doesn’t take much activity to really kick off! Would love to have been there for the December event!

This season has been terrible for aurora! I haven´t been out more than a handful of times since september... and even then it´s been kind of meh... But I´m glad you got some aurora in the end :)
