Aurora makes it hers, as usual, when she covers other artist's music.....I can imagine David, who was so emotional and expressive, totally captivated by Aurora covering his beautiful song. I grew with Bowie he is a proof that Inmortals never die
Dont hide your feelings! Feelings are fantastic! I don't understand why Aurora is the artist that has effected me like nobody else. I have loved Elvis, Queen, Madonna, Cliff Richard, Cris de Burgh, Elton John, Beatles, MJ, Brian Adams, A-ha and many other, but nobody GRAB me like her. It might actually be her feelings! Normally people just let out a tiny bit of themself, but Aurora just open all up and let you hear and see her heart and soul! The other day I had not listened to Aurora in over a week, and I watch Through the eyes of a child from Nidarosdomen concert for the 10.462 time.... And the tears was coming.... I am a "kid" (born 1970), and a 26 years old tiny girl from Bergen make me.... I dont know how to explain it! She is so pure!
André I totally understand your reaction. I only vaguely remember the original but this one I have seen at least 50 times and with tears in my eyes a lot of them. Aurora really is very special.

I totally agree with how intense her music is. She always gives her all and we receive that with open hearts. The other side of this is that the outpoor of very well placed emotion is very demanding for the listener. I have not ever witnessed an artist accomplishing this on the scale Aurora does. She is truly a one of a kind artist.
I have seen Bowie live on a number of occasions. He was definitely quirky, but was also the most charismatic person I have ever seen live. Floor Jansen is a very close second. I am very eagerly waiting on Aurora's next US tour, so I can go see her as well. Life on Mars has been a favorite song of mine, since the very early 80's and I absolutely love what Aurora did with it.

Andrei seems to have been bewitched from the very beginning... from the very first note maybe. And there is reason for it. This cover is just extraoridinarily breathtaking. And Aurora... oh yes. Nothing wrong (nor unusual) to shed a few tears during an Aurora performance. She has a way of really reaching into your soul. You should check out her full documentaries. "Once Aurora" which takes place in her early career life, then "Aurora Haik" the full version which leads into a full concert in the forest with the people she met earlier that day in the documentary. On a side note, Aurora and her mother both like to watch reactors on RU-vid. They personally remove copyright claims if they do happen by chance. It seems that applies to the documentaries too as others have them uploaded without issue.

The wonderful intimate awkardness of that moment. I love you for sharing it like this. And that's one of the things with Aurora, isn't it, that she makes us want to express our love to one another. So let us! However awkward it may turn out ... And tet us learn to embrace our clumsiness in expressing it ... You know, whenever Aurora makes a cover, it's almost like a problem ... because she makes it so much her own, and lift s it, makes it better, right? So far I've heard this one, Across The Universe (Beatles) and The famous Blue Raincoat (Cohen) ... and you know, it's her versions that I'm going to want to listen to again and again - and every now and then go back and listen to the original, for reference ... only to return to Aurora, because she more than anyone brings on the heartbeat and the breathing of the original. I don't know, but to me Aurora is more than just an artist, a singer. She's a storyteller, a messenger, a soother, and a healer.
Late one night I was zapping randomly on my TV, I came on to NRK just as this was about to be broadcast for the first time. Until then, Aurora had just been something weird hovering at the edge of my musical awareness, and when I saw what song she was about to cover, I thought I might as well see what sort of awful trainwreck this would turn out to be. Six minutes later she had converted me into a total fan. Wow.
I have also been a lover of this David Bowie song for many, many years. I am amazed by and in love with Aurora's performance here. The heartfelt purity of her voice combined with the simplicity of the piano arrangement. Wow. I am afraid you are nowhere near diving into her musical world. It would have been nice if you reacted to the HAIK documentary about her. I think you would have understand her even better then.
I fear I am going to be in a very small minority offering this view but for me (personal preference) this was not one of her more successful covers. There is a novelty value to her singing style, notwithstanding her beautiful voice, which must inevitably start to wear thin after a while when you must then start to focus on more fundamental parts of the performance. For me the tempo of this performance was too slow and airy, lessening what always seemed to me to be a strong yearning for a different reality. For me this was one occasion when a song’s soul lost out to an inappropriate singing style.
I love your reactions! Sadly, the closed caption was DREADFULLY wrong and destroys the meaning. Bowie's vocals are the ONLY ones worth a damn. It's sad that this song is misunderstood by most people.
You stopped it twice, at exactly the same place in the song, at the the highest point of emotion.... !!!! Bad show, bad show... Bowie would be looking very confused and sad at your utter lack of heart and art...Boooooo as am I ....Grrrr
