At about 6 or 7 minutes in, when putting the shaft coupling on the bowl shaft, it is not necessary to thread the coupling all the way down to the end of the threads on the bowl shaft. Coupling should be centered on the bowl and line shafts, so that equal amount of threads are in the coupling from both shafts. Shaft faces must be square and they must butt against one another inside the coupling. If shafts are straight, and ends are squared and butted, runout should not be an issue. ---Working with vertical turbine pumps since 1995 all over the USA.
Hey Patrick, do you know what torque the 1/2 bolts that connect the pump to the bottom column should be? I ask, because have always tightened them "fucking tight" with a hammer on the end of a wrench. While this has always worked without problem, an engineer told us we should be torquing them to spec, to prevent stretching of the bolts. Of course he wont tell us what to torque them to, because we couldn't find the spec anywhere. Given your years of experience, might you know?

Torque wrenches are not necessary for lineshaft installation. Shafts must butt. Cannot be over-tightened. ---Working with vertical turbine pumps since 1995 all over the USA.
good effort but the movie maker is an unskilled person he has not covered the work spot (the point or place which is being worked upon ,, instead he has always focused the camera away from the work spot ), so you are practically unable to see what is actually done and how is it done :)
Thanks for your comment, first of the the pipe support clamp was fabricated by us, Let me tell you how we fabricate, the pump column pipe is 8", So We cut 8" schedule 80 carbon steel pipe for 150 cm length and also we cut the pipe in cross to split as two parts.We did good finishing work on the neck surfaces on the pipe and welded the surfaces with carbon steel plate (12 mm). 8" Schedule 80 pipe = 8.625 " (OD) & 7.625" (ID) So, Thickness of the pipe = 1 " Covert this 1" to mm = 1 x 25.4 + 25.4 mm. For thickness of one side clamp = 25.4/2 = 12.7 mm. Thickness of the clamp = 12.7 mm, Therefore we used 12 mm. If you have any doubt please write me in comments, Thanks.
@@mechplaza-9858 Thank Mech team! Your answer is clear. I tried to bend the steel plate 12 mm to make a clamp. The steel plate 12 mm is too hard so the curve surface can't contact completely with column pipe. But i concern about the welding on neck surface, is it reliable and no crack when is pressed by pump weight?
Hi Quang Hoàng, nice question. The welding will hold the weight don’t worry. But you have to use proper welding rod. I used 7018 welding rod. FYI. Thanks
