As a disgruntled Denverite, I am so fed up with our Democrat leadership. They unilaterally created "sanctuary city" status without any consent of the people. I can assure you, most Denverites don't want it. It hurts us tax paying citizens and in no way benefits US. The funding is not Aurora’s or Denver’s money. It is the money of taxpayers, and mostly working taxpayers. The only taxes these people are paying is sales tax. They should tax the money sent out of the country (remittance) at the same rate as sales tax.

I live in Westwood, a community in Denver. If you want to know what the community is like come on over and checkout the demographics. Go to the apartment communities first and checkout the dumpster areas. People in this area would just as soon throw their garbage on the ground around the dumpster as put it in the bin. And the litter doesn’t end there, continue walking beyond the dumpsters and out into the community and what you’ll find is that the litter extends outward into the greater community. Modelo cans and bottles, Tecate, innumerable mini liquor bottles up and down the sidewalks, empty water bottles and other drinks litter the streets, sidewalks, paper gets trapped in the bushes, planters and fence lines and nobody whether homeowner or apartment dweller will pick anything up. It’ll stay there for years or until the wind blows it further down the road. Visit on a Saturday or Sunday morning and you’re sure to see the remnants of their leftover late night drunken meals from the street vendors strewn around the outside area of their last stop for drinks or food. That’s what you will see on the streets of this community. What you won’t see are children playing outside or women and girls walking the streets. After a year of noticing this I’ve decided that the community knows it’s men and boys better than I do. I’m 63, I’ve lived in apartments all of my adult life. I’m on a fixed income and have always lived within my means. Since moving here I started to notice things in my apartment going missing, food, sodas, batteries, bleach, prescription drugs, a check from my checkbook written for $500 and sent south of the border, etc… I KNEW they were entering my apartment every single day while I was out for my daily walk. The last straw was a full pot of Bolognese sauce I spent three hours making disappeared out of my locked apartment. In all of my years I’ve never thought to buy a security camera or lock for a rented apartment. Since buying a lock and camera less than a week ago I’ve not had a single issue. With the availability of food in America, what kind of person has to resort to stealing food when all you have to do to get food is show an ID card at a food bank?

The state is responsible for safety which what tax dollars pay for. Cutting police budget. This should not be allowed.

Aurora wins more than Denver realizes or would care to admit when they cut their police force. Logic tells you that if Denver cuts police while Aurora does not, criminals n Aurora will find it easier to ply their trade in the municipality with more victims but less police, while Aurora's crime statistics remains static or actually improves.
