As a kid, one of our neighbors, Mr Wiess was a holocaust survivor. He was one of the very few surviving sondorkommandos. He was a very kind person. The only one of his entire family to survive. He said he had 14 brothers and sisters and countless aunts, uncles and cousins. All dead on one single day. So sad

For an additional food ration and to live a comfortable life while others suffered. Like why was he in the camp to begin with was he Jewish, or a homosexual, a regular criminal, or some other reason?

We cannot let future generations forget these atrocities. My friend’s father in law lost his entire family in Auschwitz and other camps. After the war he lost all hope when he would follow a lead only to find they died. He wandered around Europe for several after that feeling lost. He knew he had no future returning home so he managed to get enough to come to America. Even then he felt he was just existing. He said it was at this point he met the woman that became his wife. He felt her to be a great blessing. Then they found out she was pregnant. He said received another blessing, his daughter Sharon. He felt he had been blessed with so many gifts and a new purpose for his life. He made such an impression on me. Now when I see these documentaries or see a movie about the camps, I remember him.

“Forget the dead.”? For me it wouldn’t be possible. When I was a very young child I was often told by my grandmother that I had a very strong resemblance to my father’s grandmother. Being Italian-American I never thought too much about what that meant. As I grew up and went to school after a few years I began noticing that a good many of my friends were Jewish. Eventually I asked my dad about this. His response? “That’s what they told me.” For decades now the Star Of David has hung around my neck, only being removed by an X-Ray Technician last week to allow the Radiologist to make a more accurate diagnosis. I feel the need to express myself at this time because I can tell you that the SLIGHTEST drops of Jewish blood have more than reached a point in my life where they have taken over! 💐

The reply above that says “Forget What?” Is a prime example of a person who is either truly clueless, or is a very dispassionate human. An example of the very type of people who would be easily manipulated into following a Dictator such as the one that started all of this. Despicable. NEVER EVER EVER FORGET THE FACT THAT A LEADER OF A COUNTRY WAS CAPABLE OF BRAINWASHING MILLIONS TO FOLLOW HIS LINE OF THINKING. EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT THE JEWISH HOLOCAUST, American Indian Holocaust, African holocausts and there are more going on to this very day that all countries are turning their heads on. WHY? $$$$$ READ ABOUT ALL OF THEM. If you have no clue it even happened then we are doomed to fall for it again. My uncle filled a rowing boat with a jewish family and pushed it out into the English channel. I don't know what hapened to them but my uncle was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. Years later, I saw numbers tattooed on his wrist and asked about them. He quickly covered them up. He said they were his shame. They counted the number of people he failed to save. He died of a lung condition caused by prolonged starvation in 1992. He never once asked for recognition, that wasn't the kind of man he was, but was always glad to see others who did similar acts get recognition and thanks. And yet these same hells ( which they really didnt go into or except for the photo of that poor emaciated old man at the beginning, was the common appearance of All the inmates) were'nt the sad norm! Neither do they touch on the death marches, the first systematic mass murders of the elderly, disabled, depressed, and mentally handicapped. Similar to the assisted suicide groups in Canada, started by trudeau, also recently brought to vote in N.M. by a bill written by a dem senator and voted down. ( Luckily. As the bill called for systematic extermination of the elderly by force) very few people in germany were even aware that their 15yr old daughter severly traumatized by rape and handed over by her loving family for help, had actually signed her death warrant, started. Or that the mass murder of 18 million jews, gays, Russians, etc. was only made possible by propaganda showing they were dirty, infested, violent, lazy, etc, etc, and thus must be weeded out and destroyed.( But playing on the ignorance and stupidity of the people by indoctrination, was the only way it could have succeded. Sounds real familiar to me, hmmmmm!

I remember a story my friends great grandmother told me once when she found out I was gay. She told me about how her, her 2 brothers, and her mom and sister were all sent to camps. Her brothers and mom were sent to different camps while her and her sister were together. She was still in her teens, while her sister was in her twenties. While they were at the camp her sister usually looked out for her and protected her from guards, which sadly put her in danger often. She told me that her sister had a really close friend that would always take care of them both. At one point she learned that her sister and her friend were actually in love and hoped to be a free couple. Apparently it happened with a lot of the women in the camp. She told me how nice it was to have the sense of family, and love amongst it all. Quite a few of the women at their camp survived, including her, her sister, and her sisters girlfriend. Once free they thought their family had all died, but found out one of their brothers was alive in the hospital. Her sisters girlfriend had also found out her aunt was still alive aswell. They all ended up moving to Britain. 3 years later they ended up finding out her sisters girlfriend had lung issues that were thought to have come from making string and clothes, and she passed away due to complications. Her sister never got in another relationship after that and got buried with her girlfriend when she passed.

When we finally arrived to the site and parked, an overwhelming feeling of dread came over me! I could not go in. I became sick and started trembling. I refuse to leave the car and sat by myself as the rest went inside. It seemed that they were gone a long time and I fell asleep.When they came back my mother-law was crying and said "I should't have gone in! It was horrible!" I never forgot our stint in Germany. We lived in Bitburg where we were told horrible stories. Well, that's American Western Christian "it's wrong when _they_ do it" culture in a nutshell, ain't it? You cannot find a single social media anything where all the comments aren't 100% about something being wrong or bad for the sole reason that it is someone they don't identify as being part of "their group" doing it. No one on Western society will acknowledge any action can be morally wrong. How could one justify Guantanamo Bay while talking about the evils of "those" camp guards without Western Christian hypocrisy? It's impossible.

I looked at every artifact, every ledger even a small place of worship that was allowed by the Nazis just to prove God could not help them and there was no hope. I believe God was there. Dont the American media or the educational establishments in your country mention what happened? I'm English but I was aware of what happened when only a child. In fact when i was aged ten i attended a lecture by a contemporary of Anne Frank and she signed a book I bought of her life in the Camps. Rudolf Hess was Hitler's right-hand man until he flew to England to try and convince Churchill to make peace with Germany. He ended up being imprisoned for the duration of the war, and was executed afterwards. Rudolph Franz Ferdinand Hoss (with the umlaut over the o) was the commandant of Auschwitz mentioned in this documentary. I read the book he wrote when I was very young. It was written between the time of his arrest in 1945 and his execution in 1947 (appropriately hanged at Auschwitz). Somewhat amazingly he seems pretty honest in confessing his brutal actions while commandant, although he probably minimizes his guilt to some degree. My father, being a decorated WWII veteran, collected many books on the Holocaust and I was exposed to the subject from childhood. BTW I'm American, and it's true that young people here know little about this subject.

I tell you something very few people know. Close to Auschwitz is Monowitz and close to Monowitz ist the Polish sand desert called Pustynia Błędowska, in this "sand desert like zone" not very different to Los Alamos, in late 1944 (October) Germans built a "special camp", filled with 20000 jewish women and children. This horrible camp in the polish desert only served one purpose, to test the newest german secret weapon built nearby in Monowitz by IG Farben and the Reichspost. (Manfred von Ardenne was the leading scientist) This special weapon was dropped on a parachute from a plane that came from the near UDETFELD airfield (today part of Katowitz airport). When the special bomb exploded it caused a giant shockwave and heat over 5000 degrees and in an instant flash of light all those poor victims were vaporized. This was the most horrible crime of the Germans.

When i was a kid my new favorite band was Slayer. along with the other big four. I didn't know about the monsters of that time like that. So in school i got in trouble with a Jewish teacher cause i started singing the song Angel of Death. "Auschwitz! the meaning of pain! the way that i want you to die........slow death........" anyways that was my introduction to the history of it all. This was a great video.

If you used pre-archival data then sure..... Nove, Alec ("Victims of Stalinism: How Many?" in J. Arch Getty (ed.) Stalinist Terror: New Perspectives, 1993): 9,500,000 "surplus deaths" during the 1930s. Cited in Nove: -Maksudov, S. (Poteri naseleniya SSSR, 1989): 9.8 million abnormal deaths between 1926 and 1937. -Tsaplin, V.V. ("Statistika zherty naseleniya v 30e gody" 1989): 6,600,000 deaths (hunger, camps and prisons) between the 1926 and 1937 censuses. -Dugin, A. ("Stalinizm: legendy i fakty" 1989): 642,980 counterrevolutionaries shot 1921-53. -Muskovsky Novosti (4 March 1990): 786,098 state prisoners shot, 1931-53. Gordon, A. (What Happened in That Time?, 1989, cited in Adler, N., Victims of Soviet Terror, 1993): 8-9 million during the 1930s. Ponton, G. (The Soviet Era, 1994): cites an 1990 article by Milne, et al., that excess deaths 1926-39 were likely 3.5 million and at most 8 million. MEDIAN: 8.5 Million during the 1930s. Holodomor? 3.1-3.2M in Ukraine, 1933. Was the Holodomor a Genocide??? "However, there is no documentation showing that he intended to starve Ukraine, or that he intended to starve the peasants. On the contrary, the documents that we do have on the famine show him reluctantly, belatedly releasing emergency food aid for the countryside, including Ukraine. Eight times during the period from 1931 to 1933, Stalin reduced the quotas of the amount of grain that Ukrainian peasants had to deliver, and/or supplied emergency need."

None. Any research they would've done would've been useless, since the subjects they tested on were not healthy. The concentration camp prisoners used in these experiments were grossly underweight, and often ill, which is not representative of most of the population who would normally take medication or benefit from those experiments.

The disrespectful cartoon photo and 1.5 minutes at the start of this otherwise excellent film were a poor choice and give a bad first impression which almost made me decide not to see the video at all. The authors should remove them from the video and post a respectful, more authentic beginning.

Yet this evil doctor was allowed to die of natural causes and never punished at all. He was on the run and he must have experienced anxiety after Eichman was captured, tried and hung and he was unable to practice his profession but he still should have been captured, tried, convicted and hung, cremated with his remains thrown into the ocean at an undisclosed place lke Eichmans ashes were. His grave was exhumed and his skeleton examined but he did not suffer physically.

How was it possible for the Allied governments of this era to let all these crazy murderes go? I think because when they came into the camps everyone was so exhausted and so physically and mentally tired and grateful to be rescued that at the time they didn't care who was killing them.for all those years but when they getting there strength back is qhen people started remember and by this time everyone fled South America.
@Schwarzvogel1

The Allies (or the Americans, to be exact) let Dr. Shiro Ishii go. If you are not familiar with Dr. Ishii, look him up on Google, but only if you have a strong stomach. What Shiro Ishii and his colleagues--or rather, his fellow ghouls--did at Unit 731 makes Mengele and his fellow reprobates look like altar boys in comparison. Not only were the experiments conducted by Mengele at Auschwitz and Ishii at Unit 731 utterly unconscionable, but they were also a mockery of the scientific method. What Mengele and Ishii were doing was not proper science--it was merely sadism fueled by ghoulish curiosity and permitted under regimes that elevated twisted men to positions of power and authority who would have otherwise been locked up in prisons and asylums in saner nations. Now, why did we let these bastards go instead of hanging them from the gallows after the war? There are a few reasons for this. First, some of the data which Mengele et al. found _was_ of some interest. For example, Mengele conducted experiments to determine the effects of high altitude and cold exposure on the human body... by subjecting prisoners clad in experimental PPE to hypobaric chambers and freezing water until they died. Understanding how the human body reacted to high altitude and freezing temperatures was obviously of interest to militaries worldwide. Similarly, Dr. Ishii's investigations of biological warfare (tested, of course, on live prisoners exposed to pathogens such as plague, botulinum bacteria, and anthrax) was also of great interest to the Allies working clandestinely on their own biowarfare programs. Second, right after WWII, the Cold War began, and dealing with the Soviets--our erstwhile co-belligerents--was a bigger concern than bringing every last fascist murderer and killer to justice. Heck, some of the former fascists were quick to make themselves useful to _both_ the Western Allies *and* the Soviets in terms of scientific know-how and technological development. For instance, whilst Werner von Braun was certainly not a murderer, he, or at least his rocket production facilities *did* make use of forced labour to produce various components which would technically make him culpable for slavery. But Dr. von Braun's expertise in rocketry made him too useful to have him rot behind bars. Heck, actual, bona fide SS men like Klaus Barbie were employed directly by the CIA, so it's not surprising that quite a few of these monsters slipped through the cracks.
