When my marriage broke down after 34 years, I went to Bali. I lived for months doing visa runs, and I was healed by being looked after with kindness, I lived in a small room, did Yoga, and was happier than I had been for a long time. A simple life in Bali, far exceeds a lonely life in Australia. Retirement is a no brainer, we don't all have millions in super, and have a large house with all our children and grandchildren around. Well done Alan, do what makes you comfortable, feel safe, loved, and with Muzza as your friend, it will never be boring! Be in Sanur mid Jan, love to buy you a beer. XXx
Hello from CA. Right on! Same with me during different events in my life. Studied Balinese dance in younger days and traveled to outer islands, Timor & learned basic Bahasa Indonesia. Indonesia is a very family-oriented, group culture vs the US which is very hyper-individualic & isolated & segregated in old age without resources. Living in the US cannot be cured with self-help courses. Simple life with kindness is all we need!
What an amazing man. He has served our country well now seems to not be supported so well. The housing crisis here in Australia is severe, but I would hope that we would look after people in need better than this. On the other hand what a great life Alan has now. So lovely to see you be his friend and look out for him.
Rentals in Western Australia start at $650 per week starting why would you not go to Bali when Australia is so expensive to live in , personally I think you are in the right place I would consider moving their if I can’t afford to live on my pension when my pets have passed ❤
You are a legend , yes why live in Aus , to spend your days either wandering around shopping centres, wondering what to do with your day. Bali is not only beautiful, but also the culture. People whom have nothing ,but are more happier than Western cultures. You are not dead yet ,and you are living your life.
I used to get offended when people knocked Bali, but then years later I felt happy as those people will help to restrict the tourists and crowds coming to Bali. I used to hear bad things about Bali years ago, and when I reluctantly went there for a short holiday, I loved it! Been there 14 times now. 😊
@@raymond7451 No way... not with the unique Balinese culture (food, music, art, architecture). I get go somewhere Western in Bali, or a short drive and I'm in Lost Bali. 😄
OMG Allen is a wonderful man who has earned the right to live a happy retirement. The old saying of “live and let live “. So happy for Allen but also so jealous 😊 Cheers to Muzza for this blog.
Hi Muzza & Vie. My daughter and her husband have just returned from a week in Sanur, (both have been to Bali before). They have returned to Australia with a different perspective of life. The simplicity of life, the calmness of the people and the respect young Balinese people display has made them determined to bring their 3 children (blended family) to Bali to experience a different way of life. I wish people would not judge what they have never experienced. Have a great day guys.
What an absolute legend you are Alan. You are a gem of a bloke who clearly loves a beer and a durry and a yarn. And when you speak about your service in your words “I didn’t do much just went where they told me”. I’m glad you have been able to retire somewhere as awesome as Bali even though it hasn’t been an entirely smooth ride but you have prevailed. Young aussies have so much to learn from our older generation, they just have to lift the heads up from their phones for 5 minutes. But these days we are all guilty of that. Good onya Alan hopefully when we are there in December we might be able to have a beer or 6 and a durry and a yarn.
My daughter loves Bali. Been several times and back again next year. She loves their simple, carefree lifestyle. Also says how humble and respectful the Balinese people are. Good on you Alan, for your service to our country. Enjoy your new lifestyle. You certainly have earnt it.
Great to watch Muzza and Alan . Alan I was a fellow Sapper and did my training at SME . Would love to look you both up when I come to Bali. Cheers guys well done
Thanks Muzza, what a great watch.. Alan is a champion. I first went to Bali in 88 and agree with your comments on everything Bali. Looking to move over for a couple of months a year soon myself. Thanks again for your showing the REAL Bali
I love Bali and the heat well it can get worse n aussie. Aussie has to many rules and regulations now. I would love to live in Bali as i love the people. Thank you Alan as a lot of my family did go to war. Aussie is a mess at the moment so enjoy your time in Bali. i miss Bali.
Great to see you enjoying Bali, life is to be lived. How many people in your position are old and lonely living on their own . you now has a new family, friends and a great purpose in life. Live every day as you want.
Awesome video gents! I went to Bali in 2019 for a holiday, never wanted to go but my wife convinced me, it was honestly the best holiday I’ve had still to date. Living there must be amazing 🤩 🍺👍😉
Love ya Al,you are a very important person for our country, you have done an important role to serve and guard our country, have so much respect for you and all our veterans, you deserve everything mate,it was glad to meet you and have many good times with yourself,Muzz and Vie,stay well mate,we will c you guys soon.❤
Well done Muzza and thanks for your service Allan ,there's always some Knockers out there in cyber land enjoy your time there guys and keep up the great work for your charity, 👍🏻👍🏻🙏🙏🍻🍻🍻
After my first time to Bali when I left said well I won't be back, then come again and said I won't be back. Can't keep away now. Have been coming for 12 years and as soon as I come home to Australia start saving for my next trip. :) As soon as I get off the plane I just feel my body relax and can't wait for my first Radler. I think it is wonderful that you have made the move, enjoy.
You blokes are a ripper together. This chat could have gone on longer and I'd be happy to watch. Alan you are the salt of the earth. Never says anything unless there is something to say. Muzza you are so generous and respectful of your elders. This reminded me of conversations I had with my late Pa (When I was old enough to listen rather than talk ) I only discovered your channel around two weeks ago. I enjoy your tips and advice and look forward to the next. Best wishes John from Melbourne
In Bali in a few days, would love to have a drink with Alan if he has the time. We should always respect the guys who did time in the service. I will be there for a month, then off to OZ to meet family. I live in The Netherlands now and miss our whole ANZAC attitude.
Good on you Alan, We were in Sanur 5 weeks ago and it is a shame that we missed you at Hidden Garden. We are like you in that we do not mind the humidity during the wet season. Give our regards to Muzza, we had a beer with him a couple of times.
Cheers boys keep smiling and being true to who you both are. I love living in Bali and everything it has to offer. Occasionally I do scratch my head and wonder what I am doing here but the thought soon disappears and I am happy I am here 🙏🏻☀️💖 To the guy that thinks it stinks , maybe you should have spent more time with your nose out of your butt looking for the sun to shine and more time with the sunshine on your face ☀️
I really enjoy your vlogs Muzza and so nice to hear from Al. I’ve been a regular visitor to Bali since 1995. Some people rubbish Bali and never been, there loss. Best regards to you both.
Totally agree Murray ,, it’s the people there that makes it so special,, they have nothing but are happier than westerners!!! ,, there smiles and warmth you get from them are contagious!! I just came back and my heart feels so overflowing with love it’s an amazing feeling,, ❤️❤️ going back again in May 🥰 ,,, Living the good life now Alan you deserve it!!!!🥰🥰 lots of love from Perth 🥰 Teramekasi
I have always never wanted to go to Bali for many different reasons. But slowly you guys are changing my mind. Total respect to you Murray for everything you and your wife do. And huge respect to Alan for having the guts to have a go and move to Bali. Total respect. It really does take guts to take a leap to anywhere new. Total respect to both of your friendship. I am learning so many lessons about so many things from your channel Muzza. Thankyou!!!! I am an Aussie living in both Japan and Taiwan. Would love to catch up one day and trade some yarns.
@@MurrayWilkinson1 funny thing is I spent a lot of time in Jakarta back in the 90’s but for some reason Bali was never on the list. Well slowly it’s creeping up on me thanks to you
Alan is a gem&31 yrs ago I travelled to Bali for first time&did get sick. However, there is only a small pocket for party animals and the rest is a mix that suits all styles. I like slower pace of Sanur before my health retreat In March I could barely walk but was looked after by caring retreat staff. Bali is only place I leave feeling a lot healthier&happier as Sydney is just so chaotic&looking forward to my next Nyepi. Thanks guys for spreading the truth
Brilliant as usual from Muzza and Al. Appreciate even more "as it is" information from people actually doing it in a move to Bali. Im not too far from being able to make the decision myself and it does look like its not something that anyone should just jump into. Im seriously considering a trip over to check it out. Ive been "Up Top" with RAN on numerous occasions and have always loved the friendly locals. Have only been to the Phillipines as a civvy and was blown away by how locals are very much the same as they were in Indonesia, as in very friendly. Always remember the song, Bahasa Indonesia is the language that we speak, Satu Dua Tiga, thats one two three. This stuck probably because it was kids that taught me. Either way, keep on the good updates on youtube and yanevano, i might end up heading over there for a visit. Cheers. PS, if we do catchup, happy to shout a couple of boxes of bintang to keep the convos rolling. :)
Definitely not all of us who have retired here are beer guzzlers, i drink maybe once a month, 3 beers is my limit. I agree with Alan.. do your research cos a holiday here is not the same as living here. Try it for 6 months and see how you go. Looking forward to further vlogs surrounding retirement here.. itas/itap, tax Lastly, i agree with you both about bahasa indonesia.. i am finding it so hard to learn
I’m 77 Alan, living in WA, I have reasonable Bahasa Indo and it’s always fun to try to speak with locals… however the sticking point is medical insurance…. I need to get off my arse and find out how I can get on local insurance … thx Muzza for this information and interview
Alan has said he gets a TPI pension and that is not subject to the Australian Aged Pension (AAP) threshold, which means he could also be able to in addition to get the AAP plus a gold cad. My father who was at Galoppli in WW1 got the same deal. It is quite generous. I won't tell you what he got but he was entitled to get twice or more of the AAP. Perhaps about $6000 per month. Similar to what my mother got. My mother as a war widow was given a loan to buy or build a house as well to be repaid over 40 years at a 2.4% interest reduction.
muzza and alan true bloody aussie legend's good vlog lads thank's for ya service alan never play down what ya did for australia mate you shouldn't have to leave aus for the life you have now but glad ya living the dream mate you deserve it
I haven't seen the criticism of Allan, but I can see from thia video people continue to be ignorant and opinionated, and then want to share those opinions as if they have any relevence to anyone else living their own life. Ignore them, live a life less lived, and take the path that appeals to you. You live only once, but that doesn't mean only one life. The world would be a better place if more people lived their lives with the motto I live my life too, When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams - this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness - and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!
Great stuff Muzza and Al. For me i think myself and my misses would like to live our early retirement years in both OZ and Bali. Perhaps 4 or 5 months a year in Bali. What would be the best option to do that with a comparable budget to Allen?
Muzza , I am on a disability pension , I went back to the uk as at one point it didn’t look like I was going to make it , but pulled through but I was still getting my disability pension in the uk , if that helps with insight , housing here now has a waiting list of five years in Western Australia , their is no houses , I am working with families that can’t even get a rental property , and they are living in tents ,
Every country is exspenive at least we are not as bad as the UK or USA and our country has the best medical as we all need.Good & Bad in all countries.
As being a veteran he has the DVA full intilements while in Australia and that is great which veterans deserve 100%.As they say once you leave Australia u lose a lot of benefits even the pension is looked at.Both Governments do not care that is the system all over the world.Where ever u live in the world u need Health Insurance that is a need which u cannot do without.
I've been to Bali since the early days - surfing. Jalan Legian was a dirt road. I am 67 and intend to move. I too hae the same pensions etc. as thus guy but I love the Balinese. I would like to give my money away and support the people in a beautiful place.
At around 11 minutes, Alan appears to be well-used in keeping personal experiences to himself but is hiding information. Alan is coping the best way he can. One tough bugger. My WW1 Anzac Cove Grandfather only gave code to my father, and decades later Dad, pre-internet - was able to work out what his father had been through.
No he can't but he does have the bpjs (local insurance) here in Bali and it's only a couple of hundred dollars to head back home.if he needs anything. He can arrange local medical assistance through vet affairs
@@MurrayWilkinson1 thanks for the reply appreciate, I’m 68 Bali not on my Radar , but I spend 6 to 8 months a year in Thailand and Cambodia, regards Peter
Good on ya Alan maybe ( hopefully some flog sorry politician from Canberra watches this video and does more for are pensioners 3 years for a house and still waiting disgusting, and yes some people in Australia get money for nothing from the government and are absolute shit robbing miserable mongrels were people in bali get no hand outs from the government and Most are happy and are good people also a comment was made during this vlog was about different religions getting along . It amazed me that in nusa due you have the five churches right next to each other I think it is great a true testament to the people of bali maybe muza and fee with Allen off course could do a vlog on the 5 churches just a thought
How do they know you left the country? If I was on SSI or a pension I would just leave. I’m not sure about Australia but when I leave the U.S. the government doesn’t really have a clue unless they are actively seeking me.
If one comes to live in Australia or bali or anywhere and CHOOSE to live in a shithole...go right ahead lol..nobody said come to bali your guaranteed a shithole to live in lol..there are BEAUTIFUL villas and houses to choose from..just youtube Propetia Bali or Balitecture and see what your options are..trust me they ain't shitholes..well done to this guy..enjoy bali your way..
