Sounds great. Wish you lived in southeast (NC). I have this game myself. Also, after looking at your video on Flying Colors...I have 3rd Edition on P500. Now I'm off to preorder Ligny which is only $52 right now ($65 w shipping)
Just realized that at 8:00 you missed the possibility of O'Reilly's cavalry doing a pusuit combat on the halved and retreating french hussars, could have been a fun moment. Obviously this is a very old video and you were learning the rules but I felt compelled to comment.
I appropriately named the video 'beginner's example', no doubt there are mistakes. I have seen very few posted videos on You Tube that are 100% free of mistakes.
Gilbert Collins oh yeah I’m not trying to criticize. I just happen to be in the middle of a game of Austerlitz myself right now. I just saw the missed opportunity lol.
Hi, I have the first scenario set up and ready to play solitaire. The quality of the components are outstanding. Curious how your game went with your friend?
Is there a wargame that works better as a board game than as a computer game? I'm playing an IGOUGO war game that uses NATO counters and a hex map that depicts the 1941-1945 German-Soviet war. There are over 400 counters in the game and it uses a very complicated formula for determining the outcome of engagements. It plays almost like a history lesson on the Eastern Front in WWII. It's great fun and I can't imagine anything so large and complicated ever working as a board game. The rule book would have to be hundreds of pages long.
I have been playing board war games since 1969. Of course I have played the computer games too but I have never found computer games to be 'better' simulations than board war games. Only in one particular do I find computer games superior. That would be in 'simulators' like submarine combat or tactical air combat.
I've had a lot of comments about those tweezers and I wish I could get another pair as a backup. They came with a junior 'stamp collecting kit' from Canada Post.
I use a clear plastic template that I got custom cut at plastics special place. No need to get mounted maps now. I even put it over my mounted maps to keep them flat.
Yeah, for some reason many people seem to have problems with that. I've never had that problem. For me, CAV-alry has always been pretty obvious, with CAL-vary a distant second, somewhat obscure religious reference. ;-)
I've had a lot of questions about those tweezers. I got them from Canada Post some years ago. They are used by collectors for handling stamps. The coating seems to be a thin layer of paint or plastic.
