She is electric. Very good body rhythm. He has SOMETIMES very good body rhythm (bouncing), but he has not the continuous body rhythm throughout. At 0.22 -- 0.24 you see he has the bouncing rhythm. But elsewhere it is rare and not perfect.

@winningtechnique1849 Год назад
Yes but does the bounce really need to be constant? Ina and Troels dance in a similar way and don't seem to be getting much flak for it.

@@winningtechnique1849 Yes, Troels and Ina have much of the same way of dancing. Many other dancers have typical bouncing as a hallmark of their samba. Donnie Burns is remarkable with, like starting a motor, he has continuous body rhythm. Kirill of Russia the same. I have praised Austin and Liza´ rumba to the heavens as a masterpiece.This is a new couple, and I think it is fascinating if they rethink the bouncing in samba. As for Troels and Ina, they are fantastic in rumba, but I have for years had difficulties with their samba. Sometimes it is very good, but some times not. Maybe my repeated advice to them has helped.

Hi! As a Brazilian I don't recognize these dances as samba. The rhythm of the music is not samba either. I did some research in the internet and discovered many interesting things about samba. I was very curious to find out why what they call "International Samba" has become so uncharacteristic compared to the real Brazilian samba. Samba was created in Brazil and its origin is the drumming brought by slaves of people of African origin, mixed with European rhythms such as Polka, Waltz, among others. Initially, the dance parties of slaves of people of African origin in the state of Bahia were called "samba". The first manifestations of samba date back to the 1910s. As a musical genre, samba is influenced by batuque, lundu or polka and is even associated with maxixe. "Samba de Gafieira", which is the original samba de salón in Brazil, is the result of several influences, so it's important to know each one of these influences to understand the creation of the original Samba de Gafieira, its basis, and then understand its evolution with over time: Lundu, Jongo, Partido Alto, Capoeira, Samba do Malandro, Maxixe and Waltz. I saw a video that made me understand that it was not the Europeans who robbed us, but that the white Brazilian elite that appropriated the samba of the blacks and glamorized samba by eliminating its African influence and that it was this glamorized version that the government and the Brazilian elite of the time passed on to the Europeans (I think it's because they considered the original samba vulgar to dance in European halls at the time). Therefore, it's not Walter Laird's fault either, since he frequented the salons of the Brazilian elite and not the environment where the original samba was danced (in the street and bars with the people, mainly where it was frequented by Brazilian black people). In my opinion, as samba is an Afro-Brazilian culture, its elements with African influence cannot be removed. In my opinion, after removing the African influences, the resulting samba that originated what is now called "International Samba" was more similar to the old maxixe than to the true Samba de Gafieira. There were two versions of maxixe: the original, which is more erotic, ill-behaved and sensual and danced by the lower classes, and the version adapted for the elites, which is a more well-behaved version (the one that was passed on to foreigners). As maxixe influenced samba, these two versions of maxixe probably also generated the two versions of samba de salón: a more sensual one and a more well-behaved one, and generated the mess we are currently witnessing. See what the true maxixe was like, bolder and considered more vulgar at the time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q78QC47iP_o.html Wellington Lopes & Sheila Aquino Maxixe (ancestor os Samba Gafieira) - Paris 2013-01-05: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bNg0FtDM0-E.html (I think this could be the version influenced by the maxixe danced by the lower classes of Brazilian society in the early 20th century, as it's more daring and sensual than the "behaved" version danced by the elites). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2v4gBd9GubA.html "Behaved" version danced by the elites: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-10HT8s3f3jQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GySJBN9Kdlw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PCKlzERLaRo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AFC8YjI8aMk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V4RAh8RcT8s.html In the first half of the video below it shows the dances/songs that influenced "Samba de Gafieira" and in the second half it shows the real Brazilian ballroom samba (Samba de Gafieira) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BBQ9Q8stm7E.html. @@winningtechnique1849 As a Brazilian, I don't recognize the way they are dancing as samba. Samba originates from Brazil and has African influences. The dance is beautiful and the dancers are great, but I wouldn't call it samba. This song/rhythm is not samba. Samba is not swinging just like that. The original ballroom Samba danced by a couple in Brazil was and still is the Gafieira Samba, which is totally different - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OE-jabvtAHY.html. The History of Samba de Gafieira in 15 minutes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BBQ9Q8stm7E.html (from 0 to 8:00 m shows the dances that influenced the Gafieira Samba) Note that the posture of Brazilian dancers is relaxed and their movements are fluid. Samba is the whole set: music, steps, rhythm, swinging, relaxed posture and fluid movements. It's not samba if the music isn't samba either. . In Brazil there are the types of samba below, which are the main ones: CARNIVAL SAMBA from Rio de Janeiro (SAMBA NO PÉ - individual dance): ru-vid.comqkiUns5jwic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PrQDiP0jkN4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zJwtGvKUpgA.html - Note: some of these moves are only for women (if men do these moves they will be considered gay by Brazilians). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4DZ00HB5ZV0.html - men mostly dance samba with this movement, as they only accompany the women, who are the true queens of samba. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7FHtGozIdWI.html (for men) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jyzNKh-91kU.html (up to 1:10 m for men, after that for women) SAMBA DO MALANDRO (only men) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0i-GNhNChUo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6oJH1bxHh4s.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BU2mt-Tm8LU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DVJPqafJCUQ.html&start_radio=1&rv=DVJPqafJCUQ&t=104 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e8Y6XNsgzaI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AQ_poDyPKfU.html The songs of the samba schools that are played in the sambodromo during the carnival in Rio de Janeiro are too fast for those who want to learn samba (Samba no Pé), so I recommend learning first with slower sambas like below, for example, that show various rhythms and of various speeds, being a challenge for the apprentice dancers to capture the rhythm and dance correctly in that rhythm.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h9e8M-wZQGc.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4rqHyIbuh2o.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ODu3OfgnssM.html GAFIEIRA SAMBA (couple samba): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V46va2-W27k.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zTIeIdVbL_w.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--7FiMNnVoKQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_lmxvSlzM0U.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-esaWBiFXIss.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gxalWz6ECaY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KNJud2zFf3o.html There are specific songs for dancing Gafieira Samba, because the rhythm and speed are different from the carnival samba. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OE02BM3tKes.html www.youtube.com/@GafieiraPraDancar/videos These RU-vid channels teach how to dance Gafieira Samba: www.youtube.com/@CanaldoSambadeGafieira/videos www.youtube.com/@tematicoscosta/search?query=gafieira SAMBA REGGAE from Bahia state (individual dance): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tsVfSasxxI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pp6-XG1DcE4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PZS22kR3BQI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7PLSVBRUVn0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wLkrEYuC61g.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UoMSnTbCB_U.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WppkNUe9QPM.html Samba Reggae Songs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nOWioy8qS04.html&start_radio=1&rv=nOWioy8qS04&t=34 Realize that samba reggae from Bahia state is very different from the samba drumming of the carnival from Rio de Janeiro, but both have an African influence. Brazilians who know samba well know when the person is not following the rhythm of the batucada correctly, that they are dancing slower or faster than the rhythm of the music. I'm researching more Brazilian samba history on the internet and I already have an idea of why this discrepancy between "Internacional Samba" and Brazilian samba. Young Brazilians, who are the ones who use the internet the most, only know the current samba practiced in Brazil. As this dancesport competitions is practically not publicized in Brazil and Brazilians are getting to know about it through the internet, they may have the wrong impression that it's a more recent competition and not that it already has around 60 years of existence (I didn't know it was so old either), and they may think that this competition invented a random dance and appropriated the name "samba" to designate it. If many Brazilians are thinking this way, they must be outraged that foreigners are trying to appropriate the name "samba" for a dance they don't recognize as such.

@@Nathavolt Well sorry to have to break it to you - this beats any Samba in your copy and paste by a long shot regardless of the way you want to call it. I think you simply need to accept reality for what it is - dances evolve. Gafieira proper (as in the little stage performance you refer to as the "first ballroom samba") would never be an international ballroom dance because it looks ridiculous. How you as a Brazillian feel about this is completely irrelevant because it is not going to change anything.
